As a hardcore theater kid, I so agree on the last one. I do appreciate K-pop’s vocalists, but nothing beats the resonance of a trained broadway singer. It also bothers me that I’ve worked on small productions with ten year olds with a better technique than most main vocalists nowadays. Edit: I feel like I should specify that some idols are on par with some broadway actors because I literally forgot about Luna?? My girl was in a broadway show like the icon she is
Yeah, sadly, vocals aren't really the focus of this gen but 'stage presence' and whatever else. There are some stand outs but yeah... theres a reason Im looking forward to seeing what LSM does with his new company and trainees, I can expect at least some standards from him.
I agree with all of that, but idols have many checkmarks they have to overcome to a decent level (set by their companies) like basic pitch and musical training, beauty, singing, dancing, rapping, behavior, fashion, and camera training. That's why idols like Haewon, Luna, Hyolyin, Kyujin, Minzi, Rami, Soyeon or Moon Sua are so impressive. Multi-tasking is hard as fuck, not many people can do it.
@@Legacy_2109 agree hard on that, and also your examples! I'm also thinking abt Seulgi from Red Velvet and Wheein from Mamamoo in this category of "all rounder idols"
I mean... We have Big Mama, Lina, Luna, Seungyeon, Yeonji from Seeya, U.ji from bestie, Lee haeri from Davich, Dia from kiss and cry(Hyolin and Ailee I won't count on them)Apart from the unknown ones
It is so satisfying to see ive improve vocally as a group and they now even sing more confidently. As a big fan of ive, I'm extremely proud of the girls
Definitely love to have a analysis of Babymonster's vocals. And Yes lately Rosé has been very much shaky and quite struggling with her hv and lower notes too. But i love the Japan performace as she was sounding much better around her bb4 and b4 and also less shallow as compared to france one. Best of luck for your exams.
9:07 Ok, but to be fair, when you look at the Behind the Scenes of Idle's recording sessions, it's Soyeon who tells her to crack her voice. So I'm sure that's also one of the reasons why Miyeon does it a lot. It's not the main reason, but it's definitely a vocal stylistic choice that is being pushed.
true, miyeon often gets the prechorus in songs so soyeon probably likes that extra flair on the note right before the simplistic chorus drops (i say simplistic chous bc that seems to be soyeon's production style). however in her own music, she rarely uses it. the only song off her solo album where she uses a vocal flip is in 'te amo'
yasss, Soyeon always gives advice when they're recording so that their voice fit her standard to the song, it's just the producer's choice and not how Miyeon intends to sound at all. She didnt do that vocal thingy in her solo album
at the end of the day if u want to perform u have to be somewhat serious about ur skills or lack therelf u can tjust want to be an idol because it looks cool for them. i dont know how she debuted in gidle the rest of the members sing so beautifully bar shuhua? i think her name is.
@randomuser-nt9if did you even watch that part of the video? he didn't say that miyeon was lacking in talent or that it was a form of bad technique or something lacking with her voice, but rather a Stylistic choice that she uses frequently. if you knew the first thing about idle you'd know that they were unable to debut until miyeon joined cube because they needed a korean main vocalist who could carry the group in that respect. acting like miyeon is just being an idle because it "looks cool for [her]" is one of the most bad faith takes on her, when she worked as a freelance singer after leaving yg's trainee program and has always taken her job as a singer seriously. absolutely nasty of you to say goodbye
I feel so bad for younger music stans. I grew up in the 2000s. We had Mariah, Christina, Beyonce, Brandy, Jojo, Leona, Kelly, Jennifer, Mary, etc. And then the early 2010s brought Jessie, Tori, Ariana, Demi, Perrie, Dinah, etc. I know I’m forgetting like 90% of the industry. But the point is that we had dozens of skilled vocalists. KPop’s exceptional vocalists are limited in number. So stans usually don’t get to hear all of the incredible skills that comprise an amazing singer. And when they do, they usually get written off because “this line distribution is so unfair” or “why do all main vocalists debut with the most boring of ballads”? It’s great to see 5th gen idols singing live and a decent number being able to support their vocals. But I feel like that should be the bare minimum and stans don’t realize that because they haven’t been exposed to artists from the beginning of the century. And that doesn’t even cover those that were in their prime beforehand such as Whitney, Celine, Aretha, Patti, Barbara, etc.
I love your comments about Julie and I agree so much with her having that Jihyo charisma and "natural" performance and also about her being so likable but also so badass
rosé posted a short vlog on tiktok and instagram, and she sounded great rehearsing backstage! she was belting out ‘stay a little longer’ in front of the mirror and while walking to her set. she wasn’t pitchy and she was hitting the right notes even! i believe the nerves really took over, and yeah, the technical issues as well :/
honestly u cant be nervous performer otherwise going solo is not suitable for them (blackpink members), it makes them seem phoney nerves or not u eventually have ti prove ur improving over time otherwise people is going to point out that she sticks out like a sore thumb as do the other members. u would think by now with their performing experiences theyd be stronger vocals and confident in their abilities but time and time again people make excuses for all of blackpink members. i wouldng pay hundreds just to hear someone go off key and unable to complete their set becuase their nerves got the better of them.
i just wonder how many years you need to be an active singer for your fans to stop excusing basic mistakes with "being nervous". i do understand that she was, but she really can't afford to let that show at her "level."
@@ajlee2168wtfff she’s allowed to be nervous even in her 50th year of career if that how she feels. Rose is not the usual vocalist who sound bad so the few times when she does ofc its excusable.
Looking at these short clips, most of them are storytelling songs. For me, hitting a wrong note here and there is fine, but don't lose the passion for the song you are conveying. The audience in front of the stage doesn't come to see the singing technique; they come to listen to the music.Don't take these short clips too seriously, and remember that they were recorded with just one phone, even though there might be up to 300 phones involved. It's like judging by random sampling.🎉🎉
People are disagreeing with you? Are you serious? All I see 24/7 is people complaining that their faves aren’t being utilized well. Jisoo, Gaeul, Chaeryoung, Bahiyyih, etc. But the one time someone actually states out loud that an idol isn’t being utilized to their potential (and brings up something beyond line distributions and center time, actually going into their performing abilities), suddenly people don’t want to discuss idols being underutilized? I will never understand KPop stans and the double standards they hold. Yunah is extremely talented and still does well with Illit’s concept. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t another layer to her performing abilities that isn’t being tapped into and explored while Illit continues their dreamcore concept. Maybe if she did some work as a soloist even just as a featured artist) or if Illit tried having some promoted B-sides with a different concept, she’d be able to show that off better?
I feel like Illit (and Katseye, but they're not the topic of this discussion) will likely explore different concepts when their maknaes get a bit older. Kinda like how fromis_9 did with their promotions for "Attitude" later in their career.
@@goldyd144true, people need to give them TIME, that’s all they need, time to grow up and gain more experience. They can’t just debute with magnetic and then comeback with a concept like untouchable just so yunah (and iroha cause I know she will eat up a dark/mature concept) can show off that side of her. It will come we just have to wait, and also they need to gain the confidence to perform such concepts
On the last one - anyone noticed that any professional great singers always use a lot of vibrato? It's just a basic and very effective vocal technique for healthy singing and yet like 90% of kpop idols can't actually do this properly or even can't do it at all. You barely hear the use of vibrato in kpop songs (and no - vibrato is not just used for ballads).
I think it's a matter of style than the fact that they can't do it. A lot of kpop songs tend to not sound good with vibrato as it might change the vibe they're going for. Not sure about the others but i know a handful of idols that can do vibrato, easily debunking your 90%.
I don't think they're quite comparable as "one requires more skill". I've seen vocalists use excessive vibrato to hide insecurity with exact pitch on a drawn-out note, and I've seen vocalists with poor vocal placement incapable of vibrato. A good vocalist should be capable of both.
most bright pop music doesn’t use much vibrato, like taylor swift, katy perry, rihanna, it’s just not the same sound. i think they should practice using it but it’s just not a pushed for most sounds
I realized the last point pretty recently, and I feel like we should absolutely broaden our horizons! I've been listening to opera and broadway singers a lot more especially, and it's given me a fresh perspective and a new dream to be an opera singer.
I really dislike the beginning of Rosie's Gala performance, I can tell she was nervous af, it's her first major live performance as a soloist and while I notice there's a technical audio issue, I just wish for Rosie to be more confident, she sometines gets shaky or not starting the song at the right timing but as time goes by everything went well. Glad that Japanese performance is sooooo goood, like she learned to be more relax but agree with that Drink or Coffee performance. All in all, I really appreciate her for keep getting better and better and most importantly to not rely on backtrack
I'd be nervous too if I can't hear myself properly. How can a big event like that mess that up 😭 but yeah tho she's way different now than she is in blackpink, she still has a lot to improve and I wanna support her all the way ☺️
she shouldnt be on stage if this is how its going to be for her going onawards. all of blackpink are really sucking at being decent stand out vocalists or rappers who cant even fulfill their actual role. its so lazy they just wanted to be idols to look cool but they cant even deal with trying to improve their way of doing things is not always the best way either. they really are awful to listen too sometimes that i cant even sit through a whole video of theirs lately yet i wouldve loved the concept of blackpink if only they was skilled enough to pull through but they prove they are weak performers who got away with being awful for so long only when they go solo do people notice how bad they actually are or were then its up to her to handle these nerves or attend therapy or take medication or sometning else because i would never pay what blackpink members expect people to pay to listen to them be so vocally weak. if almost all of gidle bar shuhua can sing beautifully in their own styles without messing it up then blackpink have been doing it wrong this whole time
i so really appreciate that she is singing live/trying to, and tech problems are unfortunate and obviously not the artists fault, but i do take issue with the general "she was nervous" argument. it seems like anytime any of the bp members perform and it doesn't go as well, fans immediately excuse it by saying they were nervous and/or sick. how come they're always sick right when an important or new performance happens? im not even trying to be shady, i just see it way too often and it's incredible dishonest. i wish the best for rose, i hope she'll continue to sing live and be more confident, but i also cant ignore or downplay the fact that she's been a singer for a decade and still makes rookie mistakes. thats not okay for someone at her level.
That Paris performance was really beset by a lot of tech issues, it broke my heart. I’m glad to see Rosé doing well in the following days in that Japan gig. But she needs to rest that voice or improve her technique. Seems she’s straining her voice too much. But I will always appreciate her singing live in performances and not relying too much on backtracks
I personally think people confuse the situation with Liz, she is not underrated, she is in the same case as Jeongyeon, people start to praise them for being "underrated" that they became one of the most visible for people when it comes to singing, so to clarify is UNAPPRECIATED by her company, wich is different from being underrated, maybe we can say she is not as loved in Korea as Yujin, but there's no excuse for people to bring Yujin's vocals down to make Liz shine, cause at the end of the day that won't change anything on the group, I honestly undestand Wonyoung as a visual and center of the group but not as a "main vocal" lines she gets, so I would definetly see Yujin and Liz being at the chorus to shine as the vocalists they both are, it would be amazing to see Liz and Yujin complementing each other on harmonies and ad-libs, somewhat Attitude has that at the end of the song, but a bit more balanced.
No one is bringing Yujin down and liz’s vocals are underrated in the kpop world, especially when mentioning good vocalist she’s barely praised by people who aren’t dives
@@ifoundtheimposter1652 Go look on the replies of comments praising Yujin's vocals, I've seen some people shading on her and right after that praising more Liz, but honestly I love both, they bring different things to te table so I don't see why people like to compare, and about people out of the fandom, I don't undestand why would that matters, if someone doesn't stan on IVE, I don't think they would be interested in any vocals from any member, well that's only my opinion, I hope Starship start to give more attention to her like in Attitude, she really shines on that song, and show off her abilities, even Gaeul had her spotlight.
These Wonyoung antis really can't stop bringing Wonyoung into everything. What "main vocal lines" did she even get? Her parts are never even 'challenging' that only main vocalists should sing and all of them suit her voice. Yujin (and Liz) are the ones that always hog all the lines yet Wonyoung still get mentioned.
@eviaes if you call anti someone because of an opinion that doesn't say anything bad about her then go check yourself cause feel attacked by my words maybe shows what you lack, honestly why people try to find something offensive on everyone's comment, I really wasn't meant to say anything bad about her, I totally get her center position, and also I always thought she could sing even when haters said she couldn't, I defend her on Eleven hearing when other didn't, What I was trying to say is that with Wonyoung is limited the way they can play harmonies on the chorus, with the agility of Liz voice can become something more interesting, agnkwoleging someone's limits is being a hater?
definitely would love to see a video about babymonster’s tour 👀 also I know you keep it to mostly girl groups, but it would be neat to see a video about btob or even pentagon vocalists
Miyeon's voice breaking off at the end is not new, and unfortunately neither is the fact that she's consistently flat (which I never see anyone talking about). But that same flat pitch is something I've been noticing with Wonyoung, and she's constantly off beat now as well, it's like she's struggling to keep up with breathing. It's never been as noticeable as with this comeback. And I'm not referring to the encore stage shown here, everyone ran flat there a few times. It's been consistent with Wonyoung on every other performance I've seen from this comeback.
Nice video ! ngl this last opinion got me nostalgic of when you used to talk about singers outside of kpop (little mix, ariana grande, the vocal trinity...). I'm a big kpop listener so the shift in your content wasn't unpleasant for me cause there's a lot to say about vocals in kpop, but would you consider diving again into non-idols singers (western or not) in your videos ? I believe your audience is now more kpop oriented so, as you mentionned the need for kpop fans to be exposed to more advanced vocalists, you could be their entry towards that :)
Kpop was my "saving" when Little Mix came down but listening to the old lives now or just Jade's new performances I seriously wanna cry. I'd love them in a room with a mid gg just so they can tear them apart vocally. Not a nice thought I know but some kpop fans need it the hard way... someone mentioned on the community tab how Lisa made a mistake collaboraring with Doja and Raye bc they sound even better next to her - like she's ok but when you have the direct comparison you finally understand the issue. That's how it feels.
@@moongirl8807 i think the difference is that lisa is not a singer and she doesn’t even really pretend to be, she just makes music the way she wants it to sound and stylistically, just like selena gomez for example. i do think that rosalia wasn’t the best choice for the new woman collab because she was actually rapping as well
Idk if this is a thing but it looks like nowadays kpop artists are more pushed into dramas and shows in general than musicals and operas like with 1st and 2nd generations. So they're sound similar and just good. When on the other hand we had SHINee's Onew Nessun Dorma, SuJu's Kyuhyun lots of musicals, etc. they were trying new things. Now I'm missing something or it's rare for idols to do stuff like that. More for visual show than talent/skill. Well, business is business, money is moneying, so not suprised at all.
they just want the title of being idol turned actor without actually being good at fulfilling the roles correctly because they spend so long performing live they clearly lack when it comes to acting unless they take actual classes then im not seeing any decent idol turns actor. same with soloists tbh u cant perform well if u keep making rookie errors or have no confidence in ur abilities to perform well.
1. Good luck for your exams and thank you for the video despite being understandably busy! 2. Thank you for mentioning Ive, the girls clearly aren’t afraid to sing live anymore and it’s having such a great impact on their vocals and overall presence. 3. Please make that video on Babymonster’s tour if you get the chance, I would especially be interested to hear your analysis on Ahyeon’s Dangerously cover as some people felt that the clips showed the impact of her ‘screaming’ and vocal strain whilst others mentioned that Ahyeon had issues with the sound or in-ear (I can’t remember specifically what it was). I’m an Ahyeon bias but I want to get a more objective persepctive on this performance (and her overall singing) instead of purely praising her for everything and saying that she’s perfect, because she’s not (and no-one is).
She's still a good vocalist, so this doesn't really add much to the discussion. For example Dreamcatcher's Yoohyeon struggles a lot more with high notes than Siyeon, still no one would debate that they're the best vocalists in their group. This is like saying "unpopular opinion but Siyeon's high notes are easy actually bc she's good at belting high notes" - It's a bit redundant. It's much more interesting to talk about idols who sound mid only bc they are given the wrong songs or something out of their range. In this case, why does Yoohyeon get so many high parts? Or coming back to you, it just means that IVE producers know how to utilize Liz' skills and voice.
I might sound rude but the fact that idol fans who praise and idols who feel proud that their vocals were actually good whether it be performance or encores is not acceptable. As singers and dancers its their job they absolutely HAVE to deliver . Not for all idols but for most groups someone else or the producers from the company or the writers makes their songs for them, someone else makes their choreo for them. all they have to do is sing and dance that too in music shows they mosty just dance and sing less with just the track playing in background. If you decide to choose a career you must do everyting to get better at it in as much less time as possible. The world is very impatient it wont take time for a person to switch to supporting other groups who can do better.
for reals im getting so tired fo the blandness of kpop alleged vocals anyone can learn to dance but they have to be able to hold a few performances without going off kitler. ie: jimin from bts is a poor example and how he debuted boggles my mind
@randomuser-nt9if bighit was a tiny broke company and jimins main skills laid with dancing. that being said, there are hundreds of amazing live vocals from him over the years, your bias is showing.
@randomuser-nt9if To be fair, Jimin sang better years ago. He lost most of his skills these last years after breaking his voices a worrying amount of times during BTS' tours. He was never an outstanding vocalist, but he could do some things he can't do anymore today. Before going to the military he talked about restarting his vocal lessons from the start (on the Suchwita episode with Taemin if I'm not mistaken), so maybe he'll get back some things, but if he really did hurt himself, I'm not sure how much he'll get back... Big Hit were irresponsible, Bang Sihyuk had always been a very pedantic man, and after taking his independance from JYP (Big Hit was a subsidiary from the Big 3 company JYP, so they were never actually a 'small company' like RBW before Mamamoo or Starship before SISTAR -fun fact : the Starship founders worked for Big Hit before-), he took so many stupid decisions, especially in the way he chose to treat trainees and his already debuted artists. BTS members did suffer during their first year from bad decisions from their companies, and Jimin was pushed to sing in a dangerous way for his vocal cords. They are some old clips out there were he started to sing with a healthier technic, and the producer was like "no, sing more like that", and it was... I mean... Yes, Jimin after 2015-2016 had the ability and more than enough money to search for vocal lessons, but I do also see why he didn't and ended up like that. He was extra busy and people around him didn't push him to chose better technics... Actually Jimin's case is more worrying tha something to make fun of. He was a mediocre singer and ended up hurting himself so bad he became... Well, not good. It's a bit sad....
@randomuser-nt9if in Jimins defense, his group never meant to debut as a vocal group. He debuted because of his incredible dance and stage presence (Hybe am I right), but since then i wish he did get a good vocal coach or something, or at least someone to teach him to support for starters
Whilst I don't always agree with you because I feel like in the defense of an idol or two, that you don't consider obstacles they have with singing outside of their vocal abilities like language in the case of being foreign, but this one was spot on! Especially the final one. I'll never forget a Lisa stan who was excusing her recent performances and saying 'Michael Jackson wasn't vocally talented but still a global star so vocals aren't necessary' and my mouth just dropped at the ignorance. Like, are they simply thinking Michael Jackson was the star of the Jackson 5 because he was a cute kid? But then again, if it's an 11 year old stan then I doubt they even heard of the Jackson 5.
I definitely agree that there are obstacles idols would have that sometimes we don't consider... though i would say language isn't the best example LOL It affects communication and potentially how fast one can learn the song but I often find that not knowing a language has never really affected one's ability to sing well or learn a song. I often remember a story my mom told me about a participant of China's version of The Voice years ago that she thought was funny. A lady sang an American song... like one of Beyonce's song or something. She sang very well and sounded quite fluent. But later when asked by the judges if she spoke english, she said she didn't know a lick of english at all or even understood the lyrics. She sang only the song cause of the notoriety and her liking it. Granted that may not be the case for everyone.
I agree with what you said about perspective, growing up listening vocal powerhouse and show such as ASIA Bagus, most of KPop idols doesn't really hold a candle. It took me years to appreciate and enjoy KPop, mostly for music and performance, rarely for vocals.
Ive is so underappreciated as vocalists even they sing much in live and improved overtime. IF THEY WERE BIG4 they will get more praised *IU SAID SHE LOVE WATCHING IVE STAGES BECAUSE THEY SING LIVE
Disagree. Starship has VERY good creds in terms of vocals with Hyorin, Soyou and Yeonjung. If anything, people have higher expectations for IVE cuz they are from Starship.
Would love a separate video on BM. As a person who has gotten into kpop over the last 2 years, was insane to see a group preform without even a backtrack for most of their songs. I was gagged.
i agree so much with the yunah opinion. i’ve literally been saying this since illit debuted and everyone was quick to say it’s because of her age like no. moka is the same age as her and she fits illit’s concept the best imo. it’s so frustrating cause it’s obvious yunah is not being used to her full potential at all and she could be so much more popular than she is rn
It's kind of funny that people treat illit as all minors when in reality, they are +18, all the members are adults. Yunah and Moka have the same age, and they fit different concepts.
yes, make a separated video about babymonster. we need to know detail about how damn good they are!! today i listened baby monster and keep thinking this group should shining more because they really good.
I do think miyeon sometimes over does it but personally love vocal cry. I love the way nayeon uses it and a lot of other idols but I do agree that miyeon sometimes does it a little too much but she’s still an amazing vocalist and I love her
1:39 I will always give live sound technicians a little leeway because mixing live sound is not as easy as people seem to think it is. It’s crazy difficult.
Always appreciate the opinions! Yes please do a Babymonster specific video! I am seeing them in LA next month so I would appreciate a video to know what I can look forward to :)
😂 I thought I was the only person who thought this specific habit of Miyeon's singing was absolutely annoying as heck. I can't enjoy her singing cuz of this habit, which is a shame cuz she is a pretty solid vocalist, tone wise and skill wise.
Per the last point, it's not even a matter of listening to a broader selection of world class vocalists and putting into perspective that a lot of "main vocalists" in kpop are mid by comparison. It's a complete lack of musical literacy and willful ignorance. The number of lipsynced performances that fans will comment about how amazing the live vocals are and lash out at anyone that dares suggest it was not live, is insane. Some of them genuinely think their favs are singing live. And those fans are the same ones that will bash another group for the barest hint of instability when they DO sing live, ignorant to the fact their favs have never sung live. It's alarming. I'm sorry, but your fav just did a backflip and the head mic is now by their sternum and their mouth is closed while the audio has them belting a high note. And anyone pointing out that they're not singing live is somehow a hater? Be serious.
@ I know but after what I heard, I can’t look at the group the same way, the same happened when Seungri did his crimes. I cancel the whole group since these artists don’t have an active solo career.
7. There's a difference between ARTISTS and IDOL people in kpop are training for years JUST TO BE in a group and function Like a robot for fans But as kpop evolved more There are many artists coming out of it and we should appreciate that rather than comparing them to actual artists because they've just step a foot outta their world
Would love to see babymonster analysis one but only when they have completed atleast half of the world tour cause i feel like it wouldn't be a fair judgement to be judging them on the basis of one show and i am hoping thet would just get better and better with upcoming stops
good luck on your exams! I feel that last point. I'll see videos praising an idol way too much for a decent moment, and then tearing one apart for a small voice crack (which inevitably happens sometimes). It really makes me wonder what singers they've been watching.
Pls create the video about Babymonster. I always like your takes and have learned many things due to watching your channel. Would love to see you analyzing them again.
I don't think anyone disagrees that Yunah would likely be a better fit in a more mature concept. It's that there were so many people who were so adamantly against her being in Illit's concept in the beginning that fans naturally got overly defensive about it. I always thought the main reason she was a PD pick was because she balances out the personalities in the group. I didn't think anyone else on the show had a personality big enough to match Wonhee's. She also just happens to be immensely talented and versatile.
The hypocrisy of kpop stans my god, it was weak vocals when it came to Jimin's encore (when clearly his in ear was not working) but its technical issue when the same happened to rose. Bitterness rotting the brain fr.
I can agree with a lot of this, but the one thing I strongly disagree is Yunah. Something that can prove an idol being a good idol is the fact that they’re able to do multiple different concepts. I get that a lot of you guys tend to think that she would thrive in a mature concept which she would but it’s not fair to group her only into one concept and say that she would only do better here. On top of that most the time people are just feeding into the nastiness that only young youthful looking people can do cute concepts, which leads some of you guys to be the problem if you constantly only associate cute concepts with younger looking people to make things a lot more disgusting.
Good luck on your finals! 🎉 love what you had to say about Kpop fans expanding their horizons. Pop music should serve as an entry point to a country’s music (pop by design is easy and accessible) not a final destination.
rose is prime example of not keeping up with ur vocal classes yall excuse her for so long then act like shes improved over the smallest performance she has done but really its just as bad as lisa lipsynching her way through becuase theres nothing tangible about it.
Tge last take especially resonates with me. I'm so tired of seeing people saying that some idols are a good singers that just a not recognised as ones when in reality they are given too much credit. And I'm talking about txt and enhypen. Tge fact that you like their voices and that yhey sound in tune doesn't mean they are great vocalists.
Looking at the comments in the last vid no one was defensive about Yunah lol. Fans just want people to not be so simple-minded when it comes to women. Your opinion about Yunah is far from unpopular in the K-pop sphere btw. Both internationally and domestically. So there was no need for you to explain yourself, most people think like you 🙂
Whenever I think of ahyeon I think of the wasted potential I love her tone I just wish yg would stop giving her the high notes it’s fucking up her voice not every song needs a high note 😭
Yunah's one is so true, but ILLIT fans BEG to people to agree with them. She doesn't fit ILLIT's concept, but she's still doing great, but she'd do MUCH better in a different concept.
About your last point ,as an Indian I have grew up on artists with ELITE vocals. I learn Karnatik music and many of our classical singers have major PIPES so obviously I can't really compare kpop vocalists to them . Heck I can't even compare most of the pop singers to them because they are just THAT good. Artists like KJ Yesudas or Chithra and even Shreya Ghoshal are once in a lifetime talents. But regardless I just try to appreciate these different genre music and the singers for what they are. I follow a very popular group (seventeen) and my favourite kpop vocalist is someone who is indeed popular (DK) which kind of makes me basic ig and while I acknowledge there are artists with far better technique I still adore DK's voice for what it is. The moment you understand that you can have a preference but can still be open minded enough to understand that something being your preference doesn't make it ultimately the "best"which imo is one of the sole reasons why most people argue over these vocal ranking videos. I personally don't care if someone puts DK first or last in a vocal ranking , it doesn't effect the admiration I have towards him as a singer.
yes! many kpop stans just don’t listen to enough music or understand the nuances of what makes a pleasurable, stable, healthy, and skilled performance.
Thank you for that. Especially about the last point and I can see that by some people’s reaction, they are proving your point. And you said it nicer than me too because I remember saying something similar. I would have used Little Mix as an example since apparently, they are the standard/ blueprint for the Kpop gg. 2) In regards to Babymon improving, you can thank Sandra Wilkstrom. I think that’s how you spell her last name. She was on Swedish Idol.
Let me end this right here and right now. Whole problem with this video is they are just talking about voice skills yes it important but it not more important thing in music what this music fought is how the singer make the people feel about you also how do make them feel well you singer a song to they hearts. That biggest problem with this video fought about talking to connecting with the fans or the crowd because that is more important things because honestly all you respect it don't mean how skilled you are if can't make that make that connection with the people make feeling something you are done if don't it doesn't matter how skill you are that right now is the biggest problem with this video that all going said but that
kpops problem its always about having to have pretty idols but what are their skills like? i rarely see poeple talking about skills of idols these days
@randomuser-nt9if right cause wgaf about who’s the prettiest. Why are Koreans so obsessed with looks but then get puzzled when groups like Illit with weak vocals debut?
Kiof as a whole are G.O.A.T in kpop right now. They are so unique, their songs and dance, I mean everything about them is so unique and different. S2 entertainment is doing such a fabulous job in managing these beautiful souls. And now I can see the difference between debuting minor and debuting after 18yrs of age ❤️👏👏💋
Is Babymonster overworked? Since coming to my attention, I feel like they're either performing or having another song/ music video that I'm not sure when one comeback started or promotion ended.
I think they are overworked until comes the time when YG will drag them to the basement. I hope YG takes a good care of them tho especially during the very hectic time like being on tour while preparing for the next comeback.
Compared to other groups? No, they're not overworked (and even if YG wants to, they can't because they're bound by law protecting minors and to keep their ISO certification). All the music videos and interviews you see have been filmed in advance then released while they're on break/vacation. They're not being forced to promote the Bside songs in multiple music shows week after week either. They just release the MVs for the fans who keep demanding them. They're using the Pareto principle very well.
When i watch the juan gala performance, its true that the kpop acts bring insane energy but talking strictly on vocals, the other artist especially the ones singing in French just gave me goosbumbs everytime.
@@rikakasumi2002 that's what op means rank8ng your faves higher than they are rami and belle are my biases(most are main vocalists, dancers and performers) but belle has better technique than rami, better dynamics, agility, musicality, pronunciation and projection. Belle is by far not the best vocalist in the world or in kpop but she is better than all of beamon. Chiquita is a better vocalist be uase she has better breath control and dynamics and she is more consistent. You liking someone's tone ≠ better vocalist
I LOVE Minho from SHINee, I've been a long time shawol and I'm really grateful that he's showing much more of his vocals (and some really good live vocals) in this last cb, but the fact that he kinda cries at the end of some lines just doesn't really do it for me, it feels strange, idk how to put it into words haha again, I love to hear more of him singing, but I also agree that it can get annoying/repetitive fast :/
Julie really gives me hyolyn vibes her smile and her performance skill and everything about her reminds me if hyolyn Like i feel they are mom and daughter.
I hate when high notes are ended on a shouting sound rather than rounded off.
And the fact that some fans still find it good because for them high notes = high skills even when they're just totally strained and unsupported...
Drip high note
Exactly
What your definition of screaming? Rock style have a lot of screaming and the technique different from pop style belting.
agree…
I'm also thinking abt Seulgi from Red Velvet and Wheein from Mamamoo in this category of "all rounder idols"
what do you think about dk and seungkwan from Seventeen? genuinely curious ...dk played in musical too
Best of luck for your exams.
i dont know why jabanese concertes sound alwayes sounds better
If you listen closely to her voice at MAMA, even when she was just talking, her voice sounded hoarse.
The Miyeon's part, I knew immediately what he was talking about, cuz I had noticed too 😭
at the end of the day if u want to perform u have to be somewhat serious about ur skills or lack therelf u can tjust want to be an idol because it looks cool for them. i dont know how she debuted in gidle the rest of the members sing so beautifully bar shuhua? i think her name is.
Completely agree RE: Yunah. She is wonderful in ILLIT, but she is jaw-dropping in more mature concepts!
We need that Babymonster video🙏🏻🥺
@@goldyd144fromis_9's concept had always been centered around Nakyung & Jiheon.
@@deanab-se5op they still always try something different
It's a stylistic choice more than inability. I've heard a lot of these singers sing covers with vibrato just fine.
The only idol I can think of when I heard vibrato is Yuju
I realized the last point pretty recently, and I feel like we should absolutely broaden our horizons! I've been listening to opera and broadway singers a lot more especially, and it's given me a fresh perspective and a new dream to be an opera singer.
it's actually a good start for kpop stans to listen to korean crossover vocal groups like forestella or la poem
And ofc looking forward to more of her live performance and as always, I expect an improvement 😊
I'd be nervous too if I can't hear myself properly. How can a big event like that mess that up 😭 but yeah tho she's way different now than she is in blackpink, she still has a lot to improve and I wanna support her all the way ☺️
she shouldnt be on stage if this is how its going to be for her going onawards. all of blackpink are really sucking at being decent stand out vocalists or rappers who cant even fulfill their actual role. its so lazy they just wanted to be idols to look cool but they cant even deal with trying to improve their way of doing things is not always the best way either. they really are awful to listen too sometimes that i cant even sit through a whole video of theirs lately yet i wouldve loved the concept of blackpink if only they was skilled enough to pull through but they prove they are weak performers who got away with being awful for so long only when they go solo do people notice how bad they actually are or were
then its up to her to handle these nerves or attend therapy or take medication or sometning else because i would never pay what blackpink members expect people to pay to listen to them be so vocally weak. if almost all of gidle bar shuhua can sing beautifully in their own styles without messing it up then blackpink have been doing it wrong this whole time
@@lankyimnida595 so people now paying for nervous singers?
i so really appreciate that she is singing live/trying to, and tech problems are unfortunate and obviously not the artists fault, but i do take issue with the general "she was nervous" argument. it seems like anytime any of the bp members perform and it doesn't go as well, fans immediately excuse it by saying they were nervous and/or sick. how come they're always sick right when an important or new performance happens? im not even trying to be shady, i just see it way too often and it's incredible dishonest. i wish the best for rose, i hope she'll continue to sing live and be more confident, but i also cant ignore or downplay the fact that she's been a singer for a decade and still makes rookie mistakes. thats not okay for someone at her level.
YES PLEASE, I WANT THAT SPECIFIC BABYMONSTER FOCUSED VIDEO
I started checking out babymonster bc of your first video. I’d love to hear your analysis of their concert.
definitely would love to see a video about babymonster’s tour 👀 also I know you keep it to mostly girl groups, but it would be neat to see a video about btob or even pentagon vocalists
@@moongirl8807 i think the difference is that lisa is not a singer and she doesn’t even really pretend to be, she just makes music the way she wants it to sound and stylistically, just like selena gomez for example. i do think that rosalia wasn’t the best choice for the new woman collab because she was actually rapping as well
THANK YOUUU for recognizing IVE🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
If you’re interested, check out Mamamoo Solar’s musical Mata Hari, she’s amazing in that❤
WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE A BAEMON TOUR VIDEO!!
Unpopular Opinion, Liz’s High notes in attitude are easy to sing and belt for a soprano girl
Yup
Unpopular opinion pt2: Hitting notes is easy, sounding good is hard
Honestly im literally a boy whose not trained whatsoever and ive been through puberty too and i can hit them too
But there’s much more to singing than hitting notes.
He debuted because of his incredible dance and stage presence (Hybe am I right), but since then i wish he did get a good vocal coach or something, or at least someone to teach him to support for starters
people don’t stan or watch groups because they’re amazing vocalists, they stan them because of their personalities and image
Watching IVE having more confidence in their singing skills with each comebacks is one of the most satisfying KPOP moments for me.
IF THEY WERE BIG4 they will get more praised
*IU SAID SHE LOVE WATCHING IVE STAGES BECAUSE THEY SING LIVE

i agree so much with the yunah opinion. i’ve literally been saying this since illit debuted and everyone was quick to say it’s because of her age like no. moka is the same age as her and she fits illit’s concept the best imo. it’s so frustrating cause it’s obvious yunah is not being used to her full potential at all and she could be so much more popular than she is rn

Be serious.
After listening to 2NE1, MAMAMOO, BIGBANG, SHINEE, BTOB, SISTAR live...no other group can be good enough anymore for me.
As far as I know Dara is a pedoph*le so let 2ne1 out of the convo. She should be cancelled not praised
@@PyramidGame-dibDara isn't the whole of 2EN1 though
@ I know but after what I heard, I can’t look at the group the same way, the same happened when Seungri did his crimes. I cancel the whole group since these artists don’t have an active solo career.
@@PyramidGame-dib bigbang always hated Seungri though
3. Not for nothing Julie is my ultimate bias with Soyeon 😭❤️ she's practically the mother of the fifth generation at this point
Plus fun fact is she kinda seem like a mother too as new groups that are debuting are full of minors😂😂
@mais_ha588 That's one of the reasons I said what i said 😂😂😂😂
@@g_i_n_d 😂😂
Please do a babymonster video of their tour!
7. There's a difference between ARTISTS and IDOL people in kpop are training for years JUST TO BE in a group and function Like a robot for fans
But as kpop evolved more There are many artists coming out of it and we should appreciate that rather than comparing them to actual artists because they've just step a foot outta their world
Completely agree with all your points, especially the Julie one, it really did need to be said
Would love to see babymonster analysis one but only when they have completed atleast half of the world tour cause i feel like it wouldn't be a fair judgement to be judging them on the basis of one show and i am hoping thet would just get better and better with upcoming stops
11:51 sadly even Sohyang start to lose her belt and roundness
JULIE IS 5TH GEN JIHYO
You need more people to follow you man....i love it how you explain the things that fans can't bear to see
YES WE NEED A VIDEO ABT BAEMON TOUR😭
good luck on your exams!
On top of that most the time people are just feeding into the nastiness that only young youthful looking people can do cute concepts, which leads some of you guys to be the problem if you constantly only associate cute concepts with younger looking people to make things a lot more disgusting.
all the best for ur finals and yes we want a dedicated baemon tour video cuz they really surprised us all
these agencies have so much money but keep failing to invest in solid vocal coaches
Tge fact that you like their voices and that yhey sound in tune doesn't mean they are great vocalists.
rose fans should accept that her 3 am live performance deserved to be criticised
ive improved a lot omg ..
Good luck and thk you for making content during your exams !
I like Miyeon's little runs. Thought it was her signature parts in the group songs. She didn't really do them in her solos.
I'd kill for a live album from Rose, the guitar and drums make everything sound sooooo goooood
I personally don't care if someone puts DK first or last in a vocal ranking , it doesn't effect the admiration I have towards him as a singer.
yes! many kpop stans just don’t listen to enough music or understand the nuances of what makes a pleasurable, stable, healthy, and skilled performance.
they act like kpop is the only thing to listen too
yunah stans coping hard with the thing that yunah said. if yunah suits in illits concept then why her fancams always have the least views
10:45 The same with TXT. Huening Kai had to go backstage and when it came to his verse in SYTT there was a lovely silence
SYTT???
@IshitaSingh-h5y I'll see you there tomorrow, sorry I'm lazy 😅
Thank you for that. Especially about the last point and I can see that by some people’s reaction, they are proving your point. And you said it nicer than me too because I remember saying something similar. I would have used Little Mix as an example since apparently, they are the standard/ blueprint for the Kpop gg.
2) In regards to Babymon improving, you can thank Sandra Wilkstrom. I think that’s how you spell her last name. She was on Swedish Idol.
Babymonster improving means their skill or song quality what are u talking about??
Teasing Mago intro during the intervals was criminal. I had to stop 4 times to go listen to the song
Let me end this right here and right now. Whole problem with this video is they are just talking about voice skills yes it important but it not more important thing in music what this music fought is how the singer make the people feel about you also how do make them feel well you singer a song to they hearts. That biggest problem with this video fought about talking to connecting with the fans or the crowd because that is more important things because honestly all you respect it don't mean how skilled you are if can't make that make that connection with the people make feeling something you are done if don't it doesn't matter how skill you are that right now is the biggest problem with this video that all going said but that
That last take!!! You read a big chunk of kpoppies to filth.
Koreans thought Yunah was the prettiest illit member to debut but when they debuted Minju became the prettiest 😂 😂
kpops problem its always about having to have pretty idols but what are their skills like? i rarely see poeple talking about skills of idols these days
1:06 i can’t be the only one who liked how she sounded.
Is Babymonster overworked? Since coming to my attention, I feel like they're either performing or having another song/ music video that I'm not sure when one comeback started or promotion ended.
I think they are overworked until comes the time when YG will drag them to the basement. I hope YG takes a good care of them tho especially during the very hectic time like being on tour while preparing for the next comeback.
you can say they are overworked
Ahyeon gonna get muscle crmamps in her legs and neck 😭😭
@@minjuscookie Very weird thing to say.
I knew I wasn't the only one that hate Miyeon's vocal break
When i watch the juan gala performance, its true that the kpop acts bring insane energy but talking strictly on vocals, the other artist especially the ones singing in French just gave me goosbumbs everytime.
I feel like people rank baemon higher in vocals cause they are baemo not because they are very proficient vocalists
Girl just because gllits and monstiez fight doesn't mean you have to come here discrediting groups, this is a place for constructive discussion.
@ i saw someone saying ram i >belle in vocals :)
@ i am not discrediting anyone:) and its a fact that monsteiz overestimate baemon members :)
@ aHyEoN is better tahn Chiquita 😭😭m y foot
@@rikakasumi2002 that's what op means rank8ng your faves higher than they are rami and belle are my biases(most are main vocalists, dancers and performers) but belle has better technique than rami, better dynamics, agility, musicality, pronunciation and projection. Belle is by far not the best vocalist in the world or in kpop but she is better than all of beamon. Chiquita is a better vocalist be uase she has better breath control and dynamics and she is more consistent. You liking someone's tone ≠ better vocalist
That “do you agreEe~” lmao
Please please PLEASEEEE DO A VIDEO ON BABYMONSTERS TOUR PLEASEEEEE
I LOVE Minho from SHINee, I've been a long time shawol and I'm really grateful that he's showing much more of his vocals (and some really good live vocals) in this last cb, but the fact that he kinda cries at the end of some lines just doesn't really do it for me, it feels strange, idk how to put it into words haha again, I love to hear more of him singing, but I also agree that it can get annoying/repetitive fast :/
Julie really gives me hyolyn vibes her smile and her performance skill and everything about her reminds me if hyolyn
Like i feel they are mom and daughter.
Please do a baby monster video, well i am waiting for you to adress a certain something but it's ok if you don't, some fans just love to stay delulu
Once again I really like your videos, and I especially agree with the last opinion! (btw good luck for your exams!)
I agree with your points, especially, the last one.
I feel bad for rose
Yes please! would love to hear your thoughts on babymonster's concert
I thought i was the only one who got annoyed by Miyeon's habit 😭
IM SO GLAD YOU MENTIONED THAT ANNOYING VOCAL HABIT! i’m seriously so sick of it lmfao
