@@ambermeanswell To me, the worst part of this show is hardly discussed. The guy who went bankrupt knew the answer, and was with inches of getting a million dollars. It was one notch away from bankrupt. Him winding up with only $1,000 instead of million is also hard to take.
I was yelling at the TV every time she guessed, but when she said ‘map’ I couldn’t stop laughing 😅

In all my years of watching Wheel, I've never seen such a display of pure cluelessness in one contestant on one puzzle. Each time she attempted to solve it, I laughed more and more until I couldn't breathe after she said "map".
All the other contestants could have solved it instead of spinning. They would have gotten at least $1000 doing so. She's not the only clueless one.

@@Thomas-rk4rl The minimum prize per round is $1000, so if Thomas actually knew it, he could have solved it right away instead of spinning each time. He would have ended up with the same amount. He didn't know it either until he got the whole final word.

I think the audience has to be silent on Wheel of Fortune until the puzzle is solved or unless someone makes a joke or something.
They got rid of the audience due to Covid and they still don't have one. They sound effect audience applause.
The audience isn't real it's just producers and other contestants. They film multiple episodes in one day.
deltaray3 is correct. I was audience a few times last year and they don't want the contestants overhearing any answers

I saw this live and I was facepalming constantly. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!
I rarely ever watch this show, but last night I decided to put it on since Jeopardy was right after it, and I'm glad I did. I couldn't believe what I was watching.
If I worked with this woman every time she did something right, I'd casually say, "While that's another feather in your cap" and continue talking as though I didn't know it was eating her up every time she heard this phrase.
Exactly what I would do (although it should be WELL, not while).

I want to say, that as a former contestant (S39E69), it is more difficult than you think once you are there. While I ended up doing well, on the first puzzle I couldn't guess a crossword with only 2 letters missing (and they were the same letter). People were probably screaming at me too! So enjoy the moment, but be easy on Laura (and Christopher) as Pat Sajak is right that unless you have been there, you don't realize the pressure.
Since you've been there, is it TRUE there is a letter board off to the side that shows the alphabet? I often see contestants looking over to one side when guessing a letter. The audience is dark so they can't be looking to them. I'm curious if that actually exists. Also when contestants call out a letter thats already been called I've seen some look over to one side as if to confirm and they realize their mistake.
@@honeydippedmami Yes it is true. If the puzzle is considered 12 o'clock, then at about 10:30 (above and to the left) are the letter boards. There are 3 lines of letters. The first 2 lines are consonants. They are black on a white background. When a letter is guessed, it disappears, so if you look and the letter is not there, is HAS been guessed. The 3rd separate line is vowels. Black letters on a red background. Same idea, they disappear when guessed. Contestants should be planning ahead as to what they would guess next. But that is easier spoken than done. When I made my bad guess, I don't remember planning ahead, but then the excitement, pressure and speed of the game can be hard to deal with.
@@honeydippedmami And, regarding the audience, there is no audience. The only people sitting in the "audience" section are the contestants (as they shoot 1 weeks worth of shows in a day) and some production people.

@@honesteagle98 There is this year, but in season 39 & 38 there was no audience, so you must have gone this year or several years ago. My wife and I went to a taping this year (season 40 and we were in the audience. But the season I taped (39) and the prior season (maybe 2--during covid) there was no audience, so it depends on what season you are talking about.

@@honesteagle98 after taxes and travel expenses, you're basically not winning anything. Unless solving secures your place in the bonus round, it's a remarkably stupid decision to try to solve with nothing.
@@ImTheRealJake I agree, which is why they need to increase the 1,000 given to the contestant’s if they don’t win anything. That hasn’t been updated in at least 15 years, if not longer. Even jeopardy gives 2nd place 2,000

These people are under a lot of stress. For those commenting, when you are live on the show, it is hard to comprehend certain things that normally one is accustomed to. Situational awareness is normally lost and to be ridiculed is beyond any common decency. It is normal because you just want to solve the puzzle and get money. So, for those of you commenting on the “embarrassment” and “disappoinment,” get your lazy asses of the couch and do something productive. Most of you couldn’t even come close to being a contestant on this show. And if you were, when subject to ridicule, you would run off stage instead of continuing to play. Everyone likes to talk about “decency” and how everyone should be treated with “respect” regardless of a simple mistake. Yet, when the time to apply it comes, people start acting all “wise” behind a phone or computer. The utmost level of cowardness.

To be fair, I've always heard it as "another feather in your hat" as well, which was her first guess. After that failed though, considering the other available letters, I caught on pretty quickly that it was supposed to be "cap". The fact that they guessed "lap" and "map" before considering that as an option, never mind the guy throwing out a "g" as if that fit anywhere, is hilarious.
