Herro was unbelievably fast and powerful. I remember watching him free surfing in Durban in 1991 between heats at the Gunston 500. His surfing made everyone else look like they were on slow-mo while he was throwing buckets. Super raw and instinctive.

Shane's comment about 'strong legs and turns' v the 'aerial era' is very poinyent, very accurate, rip the bag out of the wave as it serves it up to you, if you want to do aerials, buy a parachute. I am sure you are still enjoying your jounying on Shane, good for you man.
What a champion. Shane seems like a very positive bloke. I remember the Herring brothers, loved watching both of them on my old vhs. I forgot about that old grainy footage, the low centre of gravity was very functional and stylish. I think from memory it was out on the great barrier reef, I could be wrong tho.

So what, world champion? to me it's no big deal especially how they judge surfing these days. Ross Clarke Jones and his big wave surfer mates to me are they the Gods of surfing, and the ever world champions, takes a lot of balls to do what they do. Shane has the respect anyway, seems he is a nice, down to earth natural fellow which I reckon is more important.
