    Here are my memories from 1966 when I was 14: schools were a safe haven, girls were cute and flirty, beach sand was warm and squished between your toes, and every day was a new beginning with an outlook on the future that was optimistic and inviting. The Cyrkle had a part in making that happen.

    Someone asked "Are these the original guys from Cyrkle?" Answer: We have two original members in the group, lead singer Don Dannemann and keyboard player Mike Losekamp. Somehow, the comment asking this question has disappeared, but we wanted to answer it. Thanks Shaun OBrien for asking!

      @@marksandford1566 Apologies for the delayed response, somehow I didn't see this comment until just now. Regarding the other original members, Tom Dawes passed away some years ago. Marty Fried passed away just this past year. Earle Pickens is a well regarded surgeon. I was honored to get to meet Marty and Earle when they came out to see one of our shows in MI and FL respectively. As for how the band got the song, the short answer is Tom Dawes knew a friend/business partner of Paul Simon. Search around for interviews with Don Dannemann and you'll get the complete story.

    In 1966 I thought this was a catchy tune. In 1996 it became my breakup anthem. Now, in 2022, it brings a grin to my face and a fist-pumping "yeah" to where I've been. "I think it's gonna be alright!" Many thanks for a song that's followed me through a lifetime.

Sure...The Cyrcle's lyrics may have stated otherwise ...but, this is how all us teenagers felt...as this Tune Shot Up The Charts. I still have my 45. @@thecyrkleofficial5711 I don't have a specific story, but I was in high school when your first recording of RRB was released, so this is part of the soundtrack of my "formative years." I have some training in both music and poetic composition, and I always appreciate a well-crafted song competently performed. Although I have been spared the trauma of a romantic breakup, I can relate to the song's upbeat message of pulling yourself back up after anything bad happens in life.

      I knew a man in Port Hardy BC named Dave Hutchinson. He was from England and somehow we got talking about Red Rubber Ball. He said he wrote it for a song contest and was broke so he sold the rights to it for 50 quid. Eventually I think it was bought by Paul Simon. Anyway I had a guitar and Dave could play that song perfectly and sang all the words without hesitation. It really was about a girlfriend who broke up with him. Just thought I'd add this story. I love the song too and the Cyrkle were the perfect band to do it. Hal Lowther in Calgary

    Oh, my gosh, my heart!! When I was in college in the late '90s and the internet was starting to become "a thing," I made a Cyrkle website and managed it for a little while. I got in touch with Don, Tom, and Marty, and through the mail, they all signed my Cyrkle album, as well as sharing pictures and music and memories. Nowadays, I'm a business writer in my 40s, but when I hear this song, I'm 20 again, doggedly tracking down every song I could find from this cool '60s band and having the absolute delight of getting to know them just a little.

    What a great song, with profound lyrics and a welded guitar and percussion combination. It was my theme song in the spring of '66 (or was it '67) when my girlfriend and I had a spat and we went different ways. I loved her dearly, and as a result, I had to absorb the lyrics of this awesome song!! Later that year, we talked things over and got back together. We have been happily married for 54 years now in Ontario ,Can. .... and I listen to this song every week !

    Sometimes a song brings back a memory of particular time and place. For me it was a bright morning in 1966 and I was a boy of 12 years old traveling with my family returning from visiting my aunt in Tuscon Arizona, driving back to the mid-west. We were driving that morning thru the painted desert of Arizona with a bright sun just over the horizon when one of favorite songs of that year came on the radio. The desert was beautiful, especially when illuminated by the "Red Rubber Ball". If you can, travel some summer morning thru the Painted Desert of Arizona and play this song.

    Every time I see a haze/smoke clouded sunrise/sunset - which almost always renders the sun as a pretty, very well-defined red ball - I think of this song. And what it really reminds me of, is that no matter how devastating a setback you collide with in life, it's going to be alright. In fact, better than alright. It's almost always a turning point for the better. I think this song was the first thing in my young life as a teenager in the 1970's that put that idea in my head, and it has served me well. I saw such a sunset this evening, so I came on TH-cam in search of a performance of this song. Good to see you guys still performing!

    I love, love, love this song, .....always have. "Yes the worst is over now, the morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball." I have to chuckle that it conflicts with "Red Sky at night, Sailors’ delight; Red Sky in the morning Sailors take warning." Still, probably the most optimistic breakup song in the history of break-up songs, and one the best songs ever!

The interesting thing about RRB on the charts is that it topped out in early July, just a few weeks before the start of The Beatles tour! Well timed...

    Red Rubber Ball _ The Cyrkle _ Lyrics by Paul Simon and Bruce Woodler
    ~~~
    I should have known you'd bid me farewell
    There's a lesson to be learned from this and I learned it very well
    Now I know you're not the only starfish in the sea
    If I never hear your name again, it's all the same to me
    And I think it's gonna be all right
    Yeah, the worst is over now
    The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
    .
    You never care for secrets I confide
    For you I'm just an ornament, somethin' for your pride
    Always runnin', never carin', that's the life you live
    Stolen minutes of your time were all ya had to give
    And I think it's gonna be all right
    Yeah, the worst is over now
    The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
    .
    The story's in the past with nothin' to recall
    I've got my life to live and I don't need you at all
    The roller-coaster ride we took is nearly at an end
    I bought my ticket with my tears, that's all I'm gonna spend
    And I think it's gonna be all right
    Yeah, the worst is over now
    The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
    .
    Oh-oh-oh
    I think it's gonna be all right
    Yeah, the worst is over now
    The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
