Heyyyy! I'm an ancient warrior from the prehistoric age in which DOS ruled the earth. This is basically the way I ended up learning how DOS functions, so I say Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I have one of those exact same Compaq all in one models 425 CDS, I also have the model without the CD in it which just had a floppy drive. Yes installing MS Dos on them, I remember that back in the 90s and watching this takes me back. Have a great Christmas and a good new year, see you in January.

Almost every 'expansion cards' I had when I was kid were 3rd party or clones, and their device driver parameters were not documented....
My AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS were so cryptic, I couldn't remember if I lost it....

You Sir, are hilarious. That was very enjoyable and it brought back many memories. Ah, the good and bad old days with DOS. Talking about archaic OSses, being a dinosaur myself I prefer CP/M over MS-DOS. By the way, did I spot there are lovely serial terminal? A perhaps a PDP, even? Not sure - but I did see a serial terminal 🙂

Indeed, there's some DEC terminals! The DEC VT180 featured brieftly here: th-cam.com/video/8YwekFqma6Q/w-d-xo.html
      Plus there's a VT220 and a VT320. I'll feature them soon.
The PDP you're referring to is a small-scale replica, as featured here: th-cam.com/video/U8iv5pigHaA/w-d-xo.html
And in case you didn't see them all, there's a quiet a few CP/M related videos on my channel: th-cam.com/video/gZ9GvC6k-ko/w-d-xo.html

Phintage vs a Compaq Presario CDS524: Presario won at points! A "knock out" at 4:50 by Phintage, but AFTER the bell ( 4:40 ) has NOT not to be considerated.

  • @kFY514

Think entering BIOS on a vintage Compaq is tricky? Try triggering the DFU mode on a 2021 MacBook Pro. There's an absurdly specific time window of holding and releasing keys.
Fortunately that's necessary much less often than the BIOS was in the 90s.
