  • This is an excellent method I've learned to prep and install Robart Point Hinges. There are many ways to do this (oil, chapstick, gorilla glue, hysol, titebond, canopy glue, tape with a hole punched in it, ect) For me, this is the easiest method that gives you a smooth epoxy free pivot point.
    Three Basic Prep Steps:
1 - Heat up some Petroleum Jelly in an aluminum can (upside down) until it melts.
2 - Bend the hinge 90 degrees and dip only the hinge in the liquid, do the same for the other side.
3 - Set aside and allow to congeal/solidify again. Now you're ready to install the hinge.

I do the same thing with the petrol jelly, but I use clear Gorilla Glue to hold in the hinges. A longer working time to make final adjustments and I think it's a little more flexible. I swill it around the inside of the hole with a toothpick. Great Video though. i wish they still made those hinges with the horn attached. Still have some in use that are 40 years old

Nick you can also use a skinny bar straw for mixed drinks and suck the epoxy into the straw and then you can blow the glue into the bottom of the hole
