Sonic the Hedgehog[a] is a Japanese video game series and media franchise created and owned by Sega. Classic sonic definitely needs to move forward. Sega really can’t do any more repeats. The classic games got remastered. That era is over, going forward new zones, islands and dimensions are to be expected.

from my understanding the "tails was intended to have blue shoes" thing is pure myth. he was always intended to have red and orange colors, and that "lost concept art of tails with blue shoes" is a fanmade edit.
The art style of Sonic and the Fallen Star is very appealing to the eye, especially how Sonic's in-game sprite looks. It's like Sonic CD being Mania-fied.

Blue shoes Tails wasn't actually intended originally. The art showing him with blue shoes was an error, and some Twitter art trends spread misinformation that it was the original intent. Just wanted to correct you on that.
Played it over last weekend. Loved basically the whole thing aside from a couple of the special stages (On Xbox controller, the B prompt that shows up during QTEs was mislabeled and was assigned to X instead which took me a bit to figure out) and the Final Boss which were kinda frustrating to learn. Low key one of my favorite things about this though, is that they actually made the Super Peel Out a much more practical move by amping up the speed a whole lot.

Sonic the Fallen Star feels like the LakeFeperd Sonic Fangame we never got, from the zone names to the sound effect and how some of the zones are very inspired by Sonic BTS and ATS. Some things like the fire shield having the same abilities as the flame powerup in Sonic Chrono Adventure, or the cutscenes feeling like remastered versions of the old cutscenes.

Considering the massive regression that was Sonic 4, which stripped away all the strides forward Sonic made in 2D like additional playable characters, and actual physics(!), I do think that it's fair to say that he had a rough transition into 2D.
@@raiden4695 Ehh. Sonic X looked like any anime show but with the Sonic Adventures style characters in 2D. I'm talking about the shows from Cartoon Network with the sharp edges, angler proportions, and thick outlines with very stylish colors and backgrounds like Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Ed, Edd, Eddy, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, or Billy & Mandy.
What a load of bull. SEGA did exactly this commissioning Dimps for Sonic Advance, and you can't do that now, because the fans start screeching so easily and then don't buy THAT many copies anyway if they get what they want.
After Head Cannon making Mania sequal after mania sequel they would ALSO just be making another Sonic 4, if they started doing it again. AND they would be held to a standard, too, unlike this fangame.

I’m sure you already know this, but FYI there’s a patch for this game now and it removes that bit of level design from frozen fountain act 2 entirely! It also makes the last 3 special stages a lot less hostile to play.

@@ChannelPup Yes it is. It replaces version 1 on the main website. They also made the spin dash and drop dash faster than the first version.

The Zone at 4:30 using old Sonic concepts is an idea that never gets old, I'd love to see Sonic Overture come back. Speaking, Fallen Star feels like the next "Before/After the Sequel" of Sonic fan games, in a good way. Great sprites, great music and creative levels. Stardrop's team has a lot of potential
Also, the drop dash using the CD animation is a cool way to show that move. Seems this video's gamelay just scratches the surface of it's content
I had the pleasure of meeting the composer of the game, Hollie, when I streamed the game a second time for my Tails playthrough the day after released. They were so cool, and it was so fun to learn about the behind the scenes of the music in this game as well as learn about some hidden secrets and easter eggs!

Just finished this game now as I am writing this comment. The visuals and music were really good in the beginning levels; but in the last three zones, I was absolutely blown away by this game.
I agree with everything you said personally I've been craving new Sonic 2D games to play and fallen star is perfect I hope sega & sonic team really check this game out maybe even hire the guys that made this perfect fanmade game if I had the ability and knowledge to make sonic games I would have went in this similar direction for sure it's a dream come true fantasy come to reality
Both visually and musically it reminds me a lot to freedom planet. I feel some visual elements could mess a bit better (some elements have more shading while others remain plain, etc). But besides that, looks fun to try
I just started playing it after the video and honestly, I say it's worthy of yoru positive review. It's a good game, difficulty does seem balanced as you said and the 'obscene deaths' were typically of my own doing cause I messed up a simple jump lol. And also, I am personally gonna add the special stages in it feel much more fun and easy to play than Mania's or Sonic 2's or even dare I say the Sonic 3 & Knuckles blue sphere stages
Sonic After the Sequel should be an official Sonic game. And I get this feeling for this one too.

Honestly bro, even if they arent official, I'd love to see you cover more rom hacks. Spider-Man Lethal Foes on SNES has an english translation, might be fun to explore in a video. And deff an insane amount of great Sonic hacks out there, imo Classic Heroes is the definitive version of the original Sonic Trilogy. Bit glitchy at times but amazing experience overall.

I don't know if anyone needs to hear this but THIS TOTALLY WORKS (and may I add belongs) ON THE STEAM DECK. I just got it installed and it works perfectly with the default controller settings and all :'). Maaan this game instantly brought me back to 2002 sitting in the back of my parent's car playing sonic advance 2 on my game boy advance. THANK YOU to who ever did this game :') they did a fantastic job

Mate, you really need to check out S&K Newtrogic Panic and Sonic ATS 23. ATS 23 has a gorgeous approach to Sonic level design, literally the best I've seen in a Sonic game, fan-made or official, and Newtrogic Panic is looking stylish as heck and is aiming to be more of a boss rush type of experience that pumps your adrenaline.
I just started this game for my channel, my first test was to see if sonic could run up hill when close to it. It's such a minor thing but freedom planet was able to fix that. Other than that this game seems to be moving along nicely.

This.....this is just a new game. It's a short game, but it's close to 2 hours long, with a full soundtrack, unique artstyle, animations, etc. It's basically a full game
Its kinda lacking any kind of Time Attack or Boss Rush modes though as far as I can tell, which is odd since they are becoming more and more common as the standard in Sonic fan game projects.

It looks really great and I'll probably play it....but, it's kinda hard to enjoy the fangames in a bubble when it's compared to SEGA's. I'm not shilling SEGA (before anyone reaches) but I'd just prefer to consider the fan projects in their own bubble, whether or not they're objectively or subjectively better than the official games. Considering one of the Sonic 1 fan remake devs got a little embarrassed others were bashing Origins and shoving the remake in the spotlight, it's clear they probably don't always like that kind of attention in the end. That said, YES this game does look stellar and it's probably the one time where (like you) I can agree this is honestly better than the official project.
Id buy this over Origins from presentation alone

Sega should give this dev full backing and all the resources he needs to publish this, put it in razor sharp hi-def with more fluid animation, and include unlockables like ray the squirrel, mighty, knuckles, etc.

I think infinite lives was a good pick, give that it eases a lot of frustrating bits.
Artsyle is lovely though a little difficult to paerse and hard to process in places and blend togeathe -and additionally and the badniks are rough, and most of the bosses just abysmal.
Sega's owned version of Fall Guys would be awesome. Would only be Chao levels and food for points into levels and just as Chao love to race. Would use abilities from Sa2b. The Races would be up to 50 or 100. Against players that are online.
This is the Sonic Mania 2 we will most likely never get.

Just finished this game. The 6th and 7th special stages made me RAGE! (But I love the music and artwork.) For the most part, it's a pretty easy game, but that speed is exhilarating!

Was this made by the same person who did Sonic before the sequel? This feels a lot like that title. I'm also glad to have alternate characters that play differently. I really miss that option in the 3d games. I also find it funny how the fans are that keep this series alive for me if not for them I would have left along time ago.
this game is fun, however, there is alot of issues ive found with it. almost all of the level look like they take place in the exact same area, theres a huge lack of level aesthetic, the levels kind of feel boring to look at is what im tryna say. the music is pretty good but is incredibly unfitting for a sonic game and for the scenarios that they play in (e.g. the invincibility theme), i really like the art style and colour direction but it also just doesn’t fit for a sonic game, the bosses are kinda confuses as to what your objective is.. overall the game is okay but i definitely wouldnt play again sadly.
Classic Sonic is more like a bad tribute act to how Sonic really was in the 90s, what him lacking alot of the attitude - as well as the voice! - Sonic actually had to the point where you'd be struggling to fill a sandwich with what personality he does have.
The Fallen Star game looks quite interesting, might have to check it out.
Also the thing about Tails' blue shoes is false information.

Is this a fully realized and completed game? That alone is impressive. The only thing im not completely sold on is the abundance of empty spaces just for running, but I'll play it before giving an opinion

I say this is better than mania i know mania has more stages than this but the thing is 9 of them are remakes and whats worse is that some parts are the same as orignal 4 is way too low for me. In this game there is 9 stages but all of them are creative and not ripped of from the others.
I wouldn't exactly call all the levels "original", actually quite far from it. Quite a few use gimmicks and/or visual theming from other official Sonic game levels.
For Example:
Sapphire Sights = Emerald Hill, Hilltop, Seaside Hill
Tropical Tracks = Green Hill, Starlight, Neo Green Hill
Discount Districts = Spring Yard, City Escape, Route 99
Carnival Crater = Lava Reef, Carnival Night, Asteroid Coaster.
Thunder Turbine = Wing Fortress, Flying Battery, S3&K Death Egg.
Probably a lot more callbacks, but these where some of the more noticeable ones to me.
Also, Raspberry River feels like a level right out of a Kirby game, probably very much intentional considering the star theme, and the abundance of Kirby sound effects in the game.
