The John Muir Trail | Day 5: Rosalie Lake - Red’s Meadow
Today was a short mileage day. Just under 9 miles to Red’s Meadow. So, I took my time.
After a short climb I arrived at Gladys Lake. There was still frost on the grass, but I decided to go for a swim to get cleaned up a bit. The sun was just coming up over the lake, and it made for a great morning, albeit a bit chilly after getting out of the water.
Things quickly dried and warmed up as they tend do out here. On the descent to Red’s, I took a detour to check out Devils Postpile National Monument. It’s a bunch of hexagonal shaped rocks coming out of the earth formed by molten lava and glacial ice; it was really neat to see!
After that, I arrived at Red’s, where I chatted with a bunch of other hikers and had a beer and a double cheeseburger!

I really enjoyed Red's. We got there in the afternoon of Day 4 for us on the JMT and my wife surprised us with a stay in one of the cabins. It's a great little stop.

Ah that's quite the surprise! That must have been really nice.

Haha I bet that was quite the tab! Worth it at the time though! I always go over budget at these stops.
