30 years in the biz & she never, ever learned to have that X-Factor. And is sad she had AMAZING raw talent that never had any proper coaching or training. What could have been, the world will never know. The difference between a self-taught street singer and a highly coached learned singer like Ree, Dionne (fo sho!!!), Diana, Gladys, Natalie, Patti & Whitney. They ALL studied & learned their craft from teachers (or Black gospel church singing) for years before performing in public. She’s a self admitted studio 👑 & there’s nothing wrong with that.
That's also what I feel about Mariah... it's like she suddenly stopped singing in earnest after 1996. All that note-dodging, lip synching, adlibbing instead singing the actual verses of the song... it's just too much. Makes one wonder what the heck happened to her voice.

She sings it because she would sing it a lot as a little girl and used to make her cry. We don't know why. She just sings it.
