I loved John Mills and all his acting family. He was an absolute gentleman who could play any part, he was also one of the little boys in my favourite old movie, the 1939 version Goodbye Mr. Chips which starred Robert Donat and Greer Garson, he played Peter Colley as a you g man, that movie no matter how often I watch it always makes me happy yet tearful👍👍❤️
I loved him in all his films but especially Ryan's Daughter where he played Michael the village idiot. He played that role to perfection it was a David Lean production released in 1970. Rest in Peace Sir John.
Always loved John Mills! I was a movie hound as a child and saw many John Mills pictures. I’ve just finished reading Hayley Mills’ lovely autobiography, ‘Forever Young’. She presents her father as a loving and dedicated father and husband, an entertaining and funny man, and a tireless actor. When I saw ‘Ryan’s Daughter’ at our local cinema, I would have been about 20, and I was absolutely awed by Sir John’s performance! He was just bloody brilliant. His Academy Award was long overdue, but I’m delighted he won for ‘Ryan’s Daughter’.

Thanks Alan, my parents used to drive us to Denham for a day out but just left us in the pub car park with a bottle of Pepsi and crisps Lol. I am intending to visit there to actually walk around the village and it is so easy to get there from central London on the train. I will go and visit John Mills grave which will be easier now after seeing your video. I always appreciated his films. And his wife wrote Whistle Down the Wind starring Hayley Mills one of my favourite films. Also love Hayley's films Tiger Bay, The Family Way being two of my favourites. Ive just finished listening to Hayley Mills Memoir Forever Young on Audible that gives some insights into the Mills family but ends in her mid 30s she is now 78. I hope she writes another one. I have just ordered the autobiography of John and separately his wife Mary. Juliet was first seen as a baby in one of Johns films In In Which we Serve as Freda's baby. I loved her the in USA TV series Nanny and the Professor. Sadly we missed out on the Mills son and brother to the girls, Johnathan Mills acting career as his parents decided to not let him be an actor and refused to let him take a part he auditioned for and got when he was young insisting he stay in boarding school for his education.
Thank you Bellingham! I'm so pleased you enjoyed the film. You're such a big fan and you enjoyed all those great films. I'm sure you will make it soon to visit the grave. Thank you for the fascinating comments
He was a great actor , reading about his wife she was also very talented writing whistle down the wind . I lived near Denham Village when i was young and used the railway there to get to London, quite a few famous people lived or live there Cilla Black Paul Daniels Robert Lindsay. thanks for video
Hello John boy, I'd like to know the location of where Roger Moore lived. I once interview Paul Daniels. He was fantastic. Very very interesting. It's still online. Thanks for your great comment Alan

Thank you Alan for a fantastic video, Sir John was one of my favourite actors, along with his two daughters, you always knew that if any of the Mills family was in the film it was going to be a good one with first class acting
Another great video of a brilliant actor. Thank you Allan for doing these as they bring back great memories. Keep them coming as I can’t wait till the next one 👏👏👏👍
Thanks Alan, very enjoyable as per usual, yes that lager scene in Ice cold in Alex was truly memorable, you felt every gulp 😄 he was an amazing british actor for sure Rip Sir John Mills.
Without a doubt my favourite film was Ice Cold in Alex even though he made many memorable films. When they are sat at the bar near the end, each with their cold glass of beer, if you watch carefully when the scene cuts to different angles the amount of beer in each glass begins to vary. His daughter Hayley Mills a well known actress is currently appearing in a TV crime drama, Series 4 of the Unforgotten. She herself is now an elderly lady.
Ice Cold In Alex. That is the film that always comes to mind when I hear the name Sir John Mills. You have a special talent Alan. Great video, as always
Plus 50s colour musical. It's Great to be Young. The cool school music master who played the piano in the local pub. Stuck up for the children when they barricaded themselves in the Gym in protest. Winifred Atwell played the boogie woogie piano on the soundtrack for JM.
Thanks Alan, loved this video. You have awoken some wonderful memories of me & my Dad watching his films together ❤️ we both loved him & we would look at each other with tears in our eyes, gobsmacked at his amazing talent for playing the part so well that it was hard to believe it wasn't real life. Yet another fitting tribute to a legend. The late Cilla Black didn't live too far from that church however she was buried back in her home city of Liverpool
Great actor, Did you know the beer drink at the end of Ice cold in Alex took 8 shots till the director was happy with it. John Mills got a bit drunk and had to sleep it off for the rest of the day. Great video.
I didn't know that. Tim, somebody else said that if you watch the level on the glass of lager change you slightly. So continuity is not 100%. That will be the reason why. You would have thought that he used the substitute, not the real lager. I bet the film that somewhere in the middle of the film. I hope John made it on screen following day ☺️
Hi NMG It's great to see you and I hope we've got over the worst of the snow and we can all have a nice weekend together. It's been worse up north where I am 😂

Oh Alan, this was great. I like John Mills and am a big fan of Hayley. The Parent Trap one of my favourites of Hayley's (and one of my favourite films) Of course they did a few together, Tiger Bay being a great one. Thanks for sharing this, loved it. Hope you are keeping well 😊
Hi Karen I've never seen The Parent Trap but I look it up now you've reminded me. Glad it was good for you and thank you for the excellent comment that's so kind. Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Oh it's wonderful. If you have the Disney Channel, it is on there. I also have it on DVD. The original, with Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara not the remakes/sequels 😊
Like all the other comments about Hobson's Choice, Will Mossop was my introduction to John Mills....a fan there ever after, though I wouldn't think you will be looking for Charles Laughton's resting place any time soon...L.A.!
Seen John and Hayley bell in there home Richmond 1970 said hello as I went passed they was stood outside off the front door I was working them days in london
Only just got round to watching this, been rather poorly, but you done him proud , as you always do, can't believe your wearing shorts, can't wait for sunshine and better weather, love the inscription on headstone its lovely, anyways hope your well my friend and awaiting your next enlightenment xxx
I have been to see John Mills grave before moving to Italy the end of last year my Daughter lived in Uxbridge and my grandson went to school in Denham village it's such a pretty village his house is to left of the gate
Hello! Anne What's a shame for the known as house was there as well? I would have visited that but thank you for telling me. I bet it's nice in Italy. Regards, Alan
A superb video Alan. Well researched and presented and yes a positive one. Pity you couldn't get into the church but at least you tried and yes I remember "Muffen the Mule" I didn't know the presenter was John Mills sister.
Hello Jacqueline, no I had no idea myself. I can't actually remember muffin the mule I think it was just slightly before my childhood but only slightly. I remember Bill and Ben and the flower pot men... Little weed. She did try to warn them when the farmer came
Hi Alan, I loved Sir John Mills and what a long life he had. I noticed too that his wife died in the same year. I loved the family way too, did you know that Paul McCartney and George Martin wrote the music for that film. Beautiful day in Denham. Cilla Black lived next door to the Mills family. I live 20 mins away so know the area well. Next time you’re nearby I’ll buy you lunch. The gravestone was lovely and the sun was shining, as you say, a happy video to celebrate life well lived. Thank you Alan, loved it.
Hello, Joan, I watched the family way A few years ago remembering our excellent. It was a great character actor in comedy. I didn't know any of that about cilla black but I did about George Martin and McCartney And if we have lunch allow me to buy it would be lovely to meet you.
I lived in Denham. Cilla Black lived closer to Denham Aerodrome rather than actually in the village. My father in law was John Mills gardener and also looked after the grave yard at St Mary's. I was very fortunate to meet Sir John and Lady Mills a number of times in their house in the village.
Your as weird as me going round grave yards lol have you been to Highgate in London ?? it's amazing you could do several videos on famous graves in that place !! 😀
Hello Annie, I have been to Annie Highgate yeah I spent a whole day going around. Lots of different headstones but I've not done the film yet. I will put it up online very soon. It was a great place. I hope you enjoyed it too ☺️
Don’t mean to nit pick but John Mills played Pip in Great Expectations (1947) not Hobsons Choice (1954) Both great films.John Mills was an incredible actor. I agree that The Family Way was exceptional. Ryan’s Daughter is my personal favourite just ahead of Great Expectations. Lovin the videos. Keep up the great work 👍
Would you be up for videoing Lynne Fredericks if you haven't before? Such an interesting and ultimately sad story. Loved her in The Amazing Mr Blunden.
Hello Donna, I'll definitely keep that in mind. It looks like a rashes were spread at golders green so they might not be any actual plaque or anything. I'm not sure but I look into it. Thank you
Hi Alan just a little info for you. This grave yard with John mills in is also the the same graveyard as roger moores stepdaughter Christina Knudsen is buried with Roger moores memorial on her headstone even tho he’s buried in Monaco.
Hello Keith, that's really kind of you. I did actually know that for the last couple of months but I do appreciate you telling me very much see you later mate
Hi Again Alan and that was another great tribute to another worthy person! Ice Cold in Alex was on tv recently and it's a great film including The ice cold beers scene at the end which is magical.Who is in the photo at the end of your vid?looks like you but with hair! Cheers pal.
Hello Rodger, It's a classic film. I'm going to watch it again and a beer is the star 😂it's my partner Pauline who sadly passed away last year. Regards, Alan
Hello Martin, I don't think it's possible. It looks like it was a crematorium in Edinburgh so they might not be any location but it was a good idea. Thank you!
Hello Richard, if only heard of known that I would have included it in the film but if I go back I'll make another backup film for the house and the plaque. So thank you for telling me that's super interesting
Please get your facts correct. Hobson's Choice. A cleverly observed film. Magnificent performances. Sir John Mills played Willy Mossop, a skilled bootmaker employed by Hobson yet treated like a servant. Working in the shop cellar. JM started on the musical stage in the chorus. This Happy Breed. Hope this isn't just another YT vlogger making capital from famous people.
This is a personal vlog, not a professional production. I do my best to honour the people but will not get all the facts right ever. It's not a big budget behind it. Just me. Maybe you should be more positive and enjoy it like most people do if you want a BBC documentary tune into that channel. And regarding money I do not monetize my channel with merchandise. I do this because I love the subject and the people

It sounds a good film but I think it's meant for children which might not be ideal for me. :-)
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep I would say maybe more a "girly" movie, but not children, so I understand that it might not be your cup of tea 🙂
Well done Alan! Such a brilliant breakdown on these legends of days gone by! Love watching your vids! Keep up the good work. YNWA ❤
Paul, you make it worthwhile. All the best my friend
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep no problem Alan my friend too!
Thank you Alan
Hi LeeAnn ☺️
Thank you Alan x
Thank you very much Sandra
Like all the other comments about Hobson's Choice, Will Mossop was my introduction to John Mills....a fan there ever after, though I wouldn't think you will be looking for Charles Laughton's resting place any time soon...L.A.!
Hi Asbury Great idea about Charles....
Nice one alan.
Cheers, Kay

A great icon he was I loved his films he was such a brilliant actor we’re they married as his wife surname was bell? Till the next one 😊
Hello June, I'm not totally sure now. You mentioned that maybe she kept her made them for her own writing but I think they were married 65 years
I have been to see John Mills grave before moving to Italy the end of last year my Daughter lived in Uxbridge and my grandson went to school in Denham village it's such a pretty village his house is to left of the gate
Hello! Anne What's a shame for the known as house was there as well? I would have visited that but thank you for telling me. I bet it's nice in Italy. Regards, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep the house is called Mill or Hill House I haven't moved to Italy yet but I had 6week there Christmas is a lot different
Lol. And all the best to you too. 👍
Look after yourself. Ray
Top one again Alan ❤
Maureen, you too have a great evening
Absolutely loved John Mills, he was a brilliant actor. I had no idea the Muffin the Mule presenter was his sister 😮
Niven and Mills were and are my all time favourite actors.
I love Hobson’s choice, I watch it regularly. Love ice cold in Alex too.
Great video once again Alan hope your doing well? That church has been used in quite a few films like bless this house and a few carry on,s.
Hi WV I didn't know that to tell. Very interesting fact. I'm quite a few famous people lived in The villages well. Thank you, Alan
He lived in a beautiful house next to the church yard.
I hope you enjoyed it too ☺️
Sir John mills in the musical cats
Don’t mean to nit pick but John Mills played Pip in Great Expectations (1947) not Hobsons Choice (1954) Both great films.John Mills was an incredible actor. I agree that The Family Way was exceptional. Ryan’s Daughter is my personal favourite just ahead of Great Expectations.
Lovin the videos. Keep up the great work 👍
Well done Judex. Let's slipped up :-)
Would you be up for videoing Lynne Fredericks if you haven't before? Such an interesting and ultimately sad story. Loved her in The Amazing Mr Blunden.
Hello Donna, I'll definitely keep that in mind. It looks like a rashes were spread at golders green so they might not be any actual plaque or anything. I'm not sure but I look into it. Thank you
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Thank you!
So sorry I got your name wrong Alan. I was not paying attention lol.
Don't worry, George can happen to anyone all the best
Great in ice cold in Alex good years then
Hi Alan just a little info for you.
Ice cold in Alice is a fantastic film 🎥
Hi Liesl ☺️
Hi Again Alan and that was another great tribute to another worthy person! Ice Cold in Alex was on tv recently and it's a great film including The ice cold beers scene at the end which is magical.Who is in the photo at the end of your vid?looks like you but with hair! Cheers pal.
Hello Rodger, It's a classic film. I'm going to watch it again and a beer is the star 😂it's my partner Pauline who sadly passed away last year. Regards, Alan
@MotorHome Beep Beep Hi Alan,so sorry for your loss of Pauline. Best wishes.Roger
never any any flowers which would be a nice gesture
Hi Alan, another great one! I’ve just watched the Brian Clough one and it made me wonder if you’d any plans to do the great Don Revie?
Hello Martin, I don't think it's possible. It looks like it was a crematorium in Edinburgh so they might not be any location but it was a good idea. Thank you!
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Hi Alan, what a shame, thanks for the reply
i thought he played pip in great expectations
thought he had brother call LISTER
No but he had a big family and did you know they they all came from Bradford.. . Everybody knows where famous for our mills.
Did you know that I've he lived in the house next to the church his grave looked like it at :bottom of his garden there is a blue plack
Hello Richard, if only heard of known that I would have included it in the film but if I go back I'll make another backup film for the house and the plaque. So thank you for telling me that's super interesting
His house was actually next to the church
