One of the greatest of all death metal drummers. He does more than just blast beat with the same fills; he's an old-school drummer who play distinct beats and has a brilliant sense of rhythm and timing.
Such an incredible drummer! His playing, and all of Obituary really, is tight and flawless. Is it the fanciest stuff you've ever heard? No. But it is simplicity elevated to an incredibly high standard. Obituary is the AC/DC of death metal.
Aside from igor cavalera being my favorite, this guy is definitely getting up there. Always plays what the song requires and I do the same. I simply am playing what the guitars are playing, except on drums, which is why it will always sound tight. The rim shot technique is interesting, I'll take that into consideration!
I most definitely appreciate the blast beat artist, but it tends to lose some of the feel after a bit when it's just constant throughout the song. I love the fact that Don doesn't really delve too much into that style. Really does a lot for Obituary's songs. Love these guys.
I wish that they would've given the drummers a mic for when they're speaking. I turn up my speakers to hear what they're saying and then BAAAAAAAAM!!! Here come the drums, ha ha.
Anthropophagus its to make snare hits/rimshots more powerful. Cause you're hitting the drum with a thicker part of the stick, so it gets a bigger sound. Some companies even make sticks that are like that on both sides for this exact style.
