As a matter of fact, yes. It is very common in France, they are infamously bad in English. Also, Gabriel Byrne mentioned in his talk in an episode of "Inside the Actors Studio" that Gerard would just learn his lines immediately before acting the scene, which resulted in at least one funny memory for the whole cast. Nothing wrong with it.
