Vertical flaring... hm Well, older styled CCD sensors tended to spill out overloaded pixels to neighbouring pixels on a vertical axis. You can see it for example in the live action footage of Tron: Legacy. But that's a sensor-specific behaviour and as manufacturers quickly moved to CMOS Bayer-styled sensors we don't really see those artifacts any more. Of course... you could take an anamorphic lens and mount it wrongly. By rotating it 90 degrees you'd have a final image that is taller than the sensor. So you could for instance with a 1.33x squeeze put a 4:3 image onto a 16:9 sensor. The Bokeh would become horizontal instead of vertical and the flaring would be vertical instead of horizontal. I haven't seen anyone really do it. But... it technically should work.
I never paid much attention to anamorphic lenses, so I always wondered what the “effect” WAS. Now I finally know. I don’t particularly care about this, or any other of these types of lenses, but I just learned something :)
Mass Effect 2 has anamorphic lighting built into the lighting engine - every light has beams going across the screen hard :D someone over at Bioware really liked them anamorphics
I wish they would add more mounts, just a huge fan of these lenses. Got the 35mm for my gh5 and I love it. Though can’t imagine how tight the 75mm would be on mft haha
Kai! can you make a review for canon inspic S. I'm planning to switch from instax to canon because it's does the work to print and save digital thank you!
Would anyone recommend an anamorphic for youtube business content marketing? It seems a bit overkill for me... If you were watching a business' youtube channel would you prefer cine-like story driven videos, or casual 16:9 style videos
@Apple Pear They can make it for L and RF, it's whether they want to or not. Some of the lenses have E-mount, but no X-mount for example. We know Fuji is one of the strongest supporters of APS-C formats, yet only 2 out of 4 lenses have X-mount. Their engineering isn't consistent enough. I don't know why they don't just increase the flange separation a bit more (to be in between DSLR/mirrorless) and sell custom adapter rings to fit all mounts.
SIRUI confirmed to me on the release video that they would release L-mount anamorphic lenses in the next round. However, I don't know if this refers to the next focal length or the next production of 75mm or existing lenses.
“It’s not brittle - it’s not made OF China” Dang dude that’s some A+ level shade! And more true than one might realize. If anyone’s interested check out PolyMatter’s latest vid(s) on that very topic.
I'm starting to get annoyed by all these companies doing indiegogo type crowdfunded products. Sirui is not a new company. They already have 3 other anamorphic lenses and a range of tripods and accessories. Yet they expect to be crowdfunded like a company just starting out? That is like socialism for wealthy people.
Lok comes back and we get 4 videos in 2 days? Ok!
but where is ALAMBY ?
@@samacochan married?
Kai and Lok are both married. So..
But now we have to wait 2 weeks :/
@@bromodz2309 yea that comment kinda aged like milk... im experiencing severe Kai drought.
I Can’t even afford half the stuff he reviews but his videos are just so dang entertaining
@elias deverent they are the top gear of cameras you don’t need to know anything about what they’re showing but it’s great to watch.
I’m just here to hear bokeh balls
i realize I am kinda off topic but does anyone know a good site to watch new movies online?
Why does the focus look so soft?
bro you on a roll 2 videos in less than 24hrs!? Bless you BOKEH GOD
How can you not call it "First Lok" now that Lok is back? :D
Kai reviews are the only ones I truly respect
Is it that soft? It like canon 5D mk II times are back again :P
Kai: Shots make on that lens don't looks sharp. Do they? Is that the result of anamorphic type of it?
I think Kai’s accent gets more British with every video of his I watch.
fun fact: He was born in UK, specifically in Norwich
If he feels the same way as Lok, I doubt he'll be going back to HK any time soon.
@@JSMedia38 No sane person wants to return to a CCP led chinese town.
Possibly a property of being British
Just picked up a new one on sale for $399 usd. Never thought about having one...but at that price...why not?
I want a vertical axis anamorphic lens. Gimme that lens flare that looks like a picket fence.
Vertical flaring... hm

You could tape some fishing line vertically to the back of a lens xD

Very cool but the need to crop renders it useless for us plebs that are still stuck in 1080p land 😅
We need to see the pro photographer, cheap camera challange again. You guys are legends
How long till the book comes out?
awesome footage

Is it near Richmond Kai?
could any of these siri lenses be used on a 35mm film camera ?

Any videos that end with a fire-explosion-flower are my thing.
Now that the band is back together, how about decorating Fuji&Friends with new KAI-zen fashion?
you really are back
For M43, is it still 75mm, which would make it 150mm equiv.? Or do they make a 37.5mm version?
Make more videos about analog photography and cameras))
not my focal length but BEautiful , lots to love

Sirui, please make an L-mount version. pls pls pls
You Leica elite probably wouldn't want to soil your good body with a chinese lens! Or are you one of the 3 sigma FP users?
I just wish they made them for all mounts. It's so annoying that some focal lengths are exclusive to certain mounts.

Love the review!
If they could make an EF mount 2x anamorphic that was only halfway decent they would sell a shit ton.
Some shots don't look desqueezed...
Sweet lens man, I wonder if i can use it with my R5? ..
MTF Services Ltd has already converted the other lenses to RF mount, www.mtfservices.com/brand/sirui We will soon have the 75mm too
