Whatre your thoughts on longer microcycles, for example, having a 14 day cycle / a weekA weekB setup for novelty / being able to train more qualities in the same program?
Do you think there's a point where you would be strong enough for a sport that giving more time to other physical attributes and skill practice of the sport and just maintaining your strength would be time better spent?
Absolutely 100%. You are speaking about professional athletes at this point. Where staying fresh and Injury free is utmost importance. They have already trained to be big strong powerful enuf. From about 28-40years old or whatever it should.be about maintenance
Regarding Skater v Pistol squats. Form has a big effect on skater squat difficulty, which might explain this difference of opinion. Skater squats are hard because it's tough to keep your COM forward, this problem doesn't exist in pistols because the other leg keeps you balanced. If you do skater squats with a weight in front, or with a relaxed back leg and a big forwards lean, you're right they're not that hard. If you do them the 'strict' way they become very hard. Strict way is holding rear foot with 1 or 2 hands, keeping the rear knee joint closed, and trying to not let the rear knee travel forwards too much during the concentric. Try it out if you are doubtful. I think we disagree because we were thinking of different ways of doing the exercise.
I see what you mean. I have poor ankle mobility, so I had to use squat shoes + squat wedge, to get any reasonable depth, but even with them I couldnt get a full rep. So when it comes to my difficulty ranking: cheeks skater squats>pistol squats>regular skater squats
Thoughts on shoulder width (clean grip) overhead squats? Like narrow full snatch, squat jerk? Worth working on it as someone with average mobility? I feel its the last progression in weightlifting
Will what are your thoughts on mini/glute bands for glute strength and hypertrophy. Started in a new gym and trainers use them a lot. Crab walks, clams, all the typical glute band stuff. Personally i think they're sesnstion over stimulus.
Have you ever been curious of taking up any martial arts training at all or any other avenue of fitness if you had more time to train? Such as a marathon or different sport other then football and basketball?
Do you think elevating your heels on plates for squats is okay, or would you recommend using squat wedge so your whole foot is making contact with the ground
Do you think it's just the years of consistent training and the right intensity that grew your neck and arms that good? I don't see you doing directs work
Hey Will, I have done majority of my training with calistenics/ weighted calistenics and kettlebell work. I dont have much base level barbell strength I would say I am at novice level for bench and squat, I really want to run your hoss olympic program, but do you recommend to run hoss project a time or two build up base level of strength before trying to run hoss olympic? I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and content, its refreshing in this cookie cutter fitness world nowadays.
What do you think about high sets low reps, low rest, essentially hypertrophy clusters
