Tau in the lore: Careful examination of the enemy, forward planning, and tailoring of tactics to deal with each enemy and situation. Tau in the art: Oh no, we are in melee!
I have always loved this war-narrative, because with the Tau, Ravenguard and White Scars we get a fast and fluid war of manoeuvre and counterattack. It is refreshing compared to the endless grinding and trench-style of warfare so often the standard in 40k.
I fully agree. And a very pro-longed inefficient way of war. Taking more resources and equipment and morale overtime than just Lightning Warfare(Blitzkrieg)…
This book was what made me fall in love with the tau. Yes, they can sweep across the imperium planets, they are brilliant strategists, but the book reinforces the sheer experience and prowess of the space marines as well. The book, unlike most imperium fans, tend to show both sides at their finest and worst. I love it, because it shows how much the tau can and have to adapt, much like me, who came from the star wars galaxy, have yet to adapt to the insanity of this galaxy... but i am doing so quickly, much like the tau.

I am not so sure. The Imperium was preparing to leave before learning about the nids, its just that learning about them made them save face. Keep in mind there are ALOT of xenos species who control way less territory than the Tau and are pretty much within IOM space and yet the IOM is unable to fully defeat. One such example are the Barghesi, the Imperium has tried to kill them since 30K (even Fulgrim was involved at a point) and yet the best they could manage was to contain them in their system.

Thank you for this segment on the tau as I don’t know much about them and find them fascinating.I’m reading star of Damocles at the moment I hope there will be more of this from your goood self
Oh lovely I was just developing a small curiosity towards the Tau and the damocles crusade in general earlier today, doing a bit of reading and at perfectly the right time my favourite warhammer youtuber graces me with a video about it
Just a clarification: The Damocles Crusade was a separate conflict from Warzone Damocles. The Damocles Crusade happened hundreds of years earlier and had the Imperium attacking deep into Tau space. GW made a mistake naming them both Damocles, since fans understandably get confused. You have a book called Blades of Damocles about the Damocles Crusade, and a book called Damocles about Warzone Damocles, and they're stories set hundreds of years apart.
Never understood why they gave their Tau "Champions" names and build up such fluff for any of them, since don't the Tau only have lifespans of around 40 years or something like that? In how much time spans in 40k, wouldn't we only see them once then they'd pass away?
From what i read of damocles (only stuff from codices admittedly) it was interesting with alot of to and fro. And honestly i prefer the small scale skirmishes/large scale battles compared to the macro warfare or resources and logistics.
The campaign books are on Warhammer +, though annoyingly the ending of the Mont'ka campain book story is cut off at the Eversor Assassin section. There's also the Damocles anthonogy which has 4 novellas set during this war. My favorite of the stories is Broken Sword, which is about a human bodyguard for a Tau diplomat.
The most dangerous thing about the Tau is not their current size or power, rather how quickly they adapt and grow. Given enough time they will eclipse the Imperium.
No, they won't. Cause when they get big they will have to deal with the same threats the Imperium does. And since one Death Guard ship ruined a Tau system.... Well you can do the math
@@malekiththeeternityking5433, and yet despite everything arrayed against them, they are still around. Much of that is due to author contrivance, admittedly, they've been ignored thus far by the truly nasty threats.
@@malekiththeeternityking5433 Its ironic because the Tau absolutely wreck the Death Guard in the games. Because the Death Guard are slow and struggle to get into melee, they just get gunned down.
The Tau should consider themselves lucky that the Imperium had worst threats to deal with compared to them, or their entire race would have been wipe out in a single generation after encountering the crusading fleet.
The question is...Do the Tau fully understand the scope of The Empire of Man and how impossible it is for anything permanent from these 'expansions' is? 'We have an alien empire breaching our boundaries' ....1000 years later...'Whoah...check this out...went straight to my Spam folder...maybe we should look at it?'
Yes they do actually. They have Inquisitors, planetery govenors and other high ranked Imperials defect to them. They also do get information about other stuff that's happening in the wider galaxy that even the Imperium might not know about in detail from the various mercenary xenos that work for them (they even have spies out there). Not only that but recently Tau water caste diplomats have been spotted in areas FAR outside of the Tau Empire instigating rebelions and arming/organizing pirate groups to further weaken the Imperium. Sure the average joe might not know the details but the higher ups (not limited to the Ethereal Council) are probably more aware about what is going on in the galaxy than even some elites of the IOM.
They have to know at least to a certain extent. Keep in mind that the Tau MO is not to fight big bloody wars with the Imperium if they can avoid it. They prefer to manipulate Imperial worlds into joining them willingly through diplomacy rather then invading and subjugating them through military might. That suggests that the Tau must know that they are outmatched overall in military might by the Imperium. However, if they can present just enough of a military threat for the Imperium to require significant resources to defeat them, yet not enough of a threat for the Imperium to dedicate those resources to destroying them, they can slowly expand and gather power. The Tau likely also understand that it is not in their interest to significantly weaken the Imperium. As the Imperium keeps all the other nasty stuff (Nids, Orks, Drukari etc.) in the galaxy in check for them.
Great video as ALWAYS UNCLE! It was good to hear your dulcet tones for almost an hour again! I'm looking forward to scooting over and listening to the story of Zeus compliments of Yourself and Lightbringer. IM LOVING ❤️ BOTH NEW CHANNELS! TOO MUCH OF CLAN BALDY IS NEVER A BAD THING!!!
Great reading but I always disliked how they made the Tau seam so strong during the 3rd sphere expansion but they had to make all the Imperium strong forces somewhere else with little Astartes, Titans, Knights, and Sister's of Battle. Tau are strong but small and against the elite of the Imperium they struggle like how the 100 White Scars beat a whole force of Tau including some Battle suits. Now imagine a force of 10,000 or the 25k that defended Baal would beat any Tau force let alone the Legions of old that would wreck the current Galaxy.
The novellas Fire and Ice, Broken Sword, and Black Leviathan are all about this. The period between the 2nd Sphere and the 3rd Sphere was basically a Cold War between the Imperium and Tau, and of course anyone else who wanted to have some fun at those factions' expense.
I love the avatar. A servitor skull with an elegant English accent serving as tutor to the likes of us, the great unwashed of the Imperium. Well done, chap. Tally ho! Disclaimer: I am new to Baldermort, so I have noob privilege / invincibility, for a short time at least. 🤓
I really appreciate all your vids on all your channels Baldermort, I was just wondering if you've ever considered doing an episode on 40K or The Heresy with other Narrators? Would love to hear yourself, wolf Lord Rho and Occulus Imperia work on something together. I reckon it'd be amazing !!!. Rob Howe
At the start of the video you said that this was in 999 m41 dose that mean that we are in m42 because everyone is saying that we are still in m41 and if we are still in m41 how long till we get to m42 because I have only been into warhammer for a bit but I still don’t know how the time line goes forward
And btw i just cant shake the feeling that the tau are thieves... My head cannon says they have a STC... perhaps not a complete one yet they have one, I belive all their achievements came from the knowledge of humanity, yet they dare to assualt the imperium's worlds.
The Tau would happily use an STC if they had one (They don't). They have no shame about using tech from other species they encounter; their ion weapons for example were traded to them by the Leagues of Votann. Their experimental new slipstream drive is based on Imperial and Kroot warp tech. But the Tau are absolutely talented (And very reckless) inventors. There's even a memorial on the Sept World of Bork'an dedicated to the many brave Fire Warriors who died testing dangerous new experimental weapons.
@@latrodectusmactans7592 its now obvious that you know much more about tau than i, k would even go so far to call you a fan, Btw i know from the cannon that there is no stc in tau hands, BUT i said it very clearly that my head cannon says so and i would like to believe all their achievements came from an stc, i know this is wrong, but damn i like to believe
... these blue meatbags are just dead-weight to their extremely sophisticated AI. They'd win a battle-or-two if they'd step out of the trash-cans... and let their better, synthetic-half wear the daddy-pants. A classic-case of a dollar waiting on a dime. The Tau are a tragic example of evolution running away in an environment where something similar to the tree-sloth had no natural predators.
You use all tools given to you in war, and something tells me that this exact sentiment is known to the Shas'O of the Fire Caste. Something tells me it not only doesn't work, but gives them even more incentive to speed up their staggering technological advancements to further screw over the Imperium's sad, stagnant, luddite tradition.
Time to call the Black Templars and order up another Crusade.... We go oven Fried Tua to serve up to the Emperor! Purge the Traitors! Suffer not the Xenos! Farts for the Inquisition! Comments for the Algorithm!
Excellent episode as always good sir! *narrows eyes inquistorally* ...even if it is traitorous and heretical. All may be forgive with 12 Emperor Protects and an offering of 50 destroyed Tau gundam suits. After all, the cleansing of your soul and concious in such matters is for the greater good.

Maybe time to direct the entire Octarius thing over to Tau space...@@sebastijanglozinic8630
This was fantastic
Agreed. If the old legions came back, especially with the primaris, it would be a cake walk for the Imperium
Ah the Damocles Gulf, such a great place for misinformation and sleeper agent installation within different organizations…
The novellas Fire and Ice, Broken Sword, and Black Leviathan are all about this.
The period between the 2nd Sphere and the 3rd Sphere was basically a Cold War between the Imperium and Tau, and of course anyone else who wanted to have some fun at those factions' expense.
Yay
I love the avatar. A servitor skull with an elegant English accent serving as tutor to the likes of us, the great unwashed of the Imperium. Well done, chap. Tally ho!
Disclaimer: I am new to Baldermort, so I have noob privilege / invincibility, for a short time at least. 🤓
Welcome to warhammer brother Long.
@@Baldermort Thank you sir. 🫡

Lawrdy it's happening WAAAAAARG
I love T’au beating on the Imperium - make the Imperium feel like they are on the back foot.
Love this ! Hate how a space marine can just take out a ripetide though... space marines are straight cheese🤦♂️😂
Food has mo arrived time
And btw i just cant shake the feeling that the tau are thieves...
My head cannon says they have a STC... perhaps not a complete one yet they have one,
I belive all their achievements came from the knowledge of humanity, yet they dare to assualt the imperium's worlds.
@@latrodectusmactans7592 its now obvious that you know much more about tau than i, k would even go so far to call you a fan,
Btw i know from the cannon that there is no stc in tau hands, BUT i said it very clearly that my head cannon says so and i would like to believe all their achievements came from an stc, i know this is wrong, but damn i like to believe
Don't make me start a Raven Guard army.
oh lawdamocles a comin
... these blue meatbags are just dead-weight to their extremely sophisticated AI.
I laughed at the part where the Tau beat the Orks. Sure they did, once. What about next year? And, the next year? And,...
True. 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
Hey it’ll give the Fire Caste plenty of opportunities to blow off steam.
wonderful

Shadowsun is best girl
Excellent episode as always good sir!
*narrows eyes inquistorally*
...even if it is traitorous and heretical. All may be forgive with 12 Emperor Protects and an offering of 50 destroyed Tau gundam suits. After all, the cleansing of your soul and concious in such matters is for the greater good.
But they don’t even fight in melee.
