    Great video as usual! The mini blower to pump up your foil kite is relevant if you swam several times to dry it back. But at my place, LEI people will make fun of me if I use this kind of stuff! Fortunately, I do not swim too much at my home-spot in Marseille.

    • @OurKiteLife

      Thanks Nicholas! Given that our spot has very little wind at the bottom, most of us use the leaf blower (aka "Viagara" lol)

    Wow. Just watched this after i thought i had a bad day. Wind up and down. Changing kites and never having the right one for long. Still learning on a surfboard in ocean with some formidable waves. Worrying about people as a get drug downwind towards the swim beaches. Positives: water temp 76 F. big sandy beaches so when i decide to self land i just walk behind the sunbathers and drop the kite in an open area.
    Well tomorrow looks good. Thanks for another entertaining video. Ocean City New Jersey

    The guy at 2:20 must not have ever been to the Caribbean yet......lol.
    (admirable optimism though!)
    You haven't lived (kite wise) until you have kited dream perfect white sand beach, crystal clear water, non gusty winds and ZERO people for miles.
    That's world class.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ironically that guy has been to Caribbean a lot as he is a sailor and sailed all of it. He is not wrong or right, for that matter, as the winds that we get are quite unique, sometimes better than anything you can get in carribean due to wind gradient effect, but for the most part, we deal with those crappy wind days. Anyways, excited to go back to Exuma :D

    Respect ... ? This one had the reverse effect of most videos where they highlight only the best. You were highlighting almost all the worst. Refreshingly honest, but makes me question my commitment. A day like that is such a downer. I am spoiled here in South Texas. Your VLOG #1 in just above freezing temperature and this one, make me think I would never make it as a kiteboarder in Canada. I just had an opportunity and was able to have a session in the famed Hood River Gorge. Crowded, expensive parking, freezing cold water in May... no thank you. Great hobby...so happy I found it and fairly committed to it, but don't think I can't hold a candle to what some others do in this pursuit... your crew included.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This day was hilariously bad in terms of wind quality, for sure, but we still had a blast. One of things about kiting in Canada - at least for us - is doing it with a fun crew and suffering together 😄

    Nice one, some People get a lot of water time. Triathlon Training included. Maybe you now have enough footage for a fail Compilation?! Besides having a Good hearty laugh ohne can learn from mistakes.
    Also nice to see that people in canada ride german stuff, flysurfer and Carved, just like me. Tip: try a Boardschmiede Board, especially the Light Wind Model. Greetings from germany!

    I am glad to see that expert as you are have sometimes crazy sessions as I often do 🥴 If you have some views of your swimming technique with large foil kites, I would be quite interested to see how you manage them on medium distance (as 150/200m) when you don’t want to fully wrap your kite into your harness: I guess you do a self rescue with your bar but when done, do you disconnect your safety leach, how do you place the bar and the kite in order to pull the kite while avoiding any mess with the bridles? Do you open the air valves or keep them closed? Many mysteries for me you may certainly clarify🤔😎

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the situation. Normally for a medium distance swim, I'll do a full self rescue - opening the deflate valves, folding the kite in half and wrapping with the bar, tucking the bridles in. It's just easier to swim with the kite packaged up that way, and if done carefully (not too rushed), it's easy to unwrap and relaunch after :)

      it wasn't marginal, it was 0 to 17 knots :D

      @@OurKiteLife I like your videos, it's interesting to see other kiters and what the local conditions are. Where I live, we get storms rumble through, so we tend to kite as the low pressure is over us and is moving away, so we get high wind, rain, big waves. So much fun. So wild and elemental. We don't get much constant light wind, if it's light then it's usually too light to bother with. 0 - 17 Knots is too low to get me going, unless the current is working in my favour.

  • @irf888
    @irf888 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Thanks for the video. Looks like in some occasions you had rotor coming off the land objects upwind off that point. Rule is the wind is adversely effected downwind x10 times the height of the objects.
    Title should be = "Washing kites, self rescue and swimming exercise session"! Regards.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's rotor, but it is much lower compared to where the kite sits. We use line extensions, and combined with bridles, the kite sits about 30m above water. That hill is max 5-6meters. While we do experience rotors when wind increases downwind, that is not what happened today as the wind just died - including 2km into the lake.

    Ex U of T boy here. When you guys get tired of the -20 weather, and Australia is off lockdown, come hop a flight, rent a campervan, and hang out over to our neck of the woods for the Australian summer. 20 knot days every day, miles of empty beach, and hundreds of Canadian expats to keep you company! Then let the season wind down, spend the Australian Winter in Cocos Islands, maybe a side trip to Tonga, and be back in Toronto for summer! Beer is better this way too :)

    Newbie question...why use the foil kites? Cheers. Love the channel.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's rephrase the question - Why not use foil kites? What's wrong with them? With that said, most of the locals used to use inflatables but we all switched because they work better with out local winds, they generate more power than LEI's and jump better, especially the hang time. On the down side, they don't loop as good.

  • @lefriess01
    @lefriess01 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you guys dry your foil kite after its wet inside? Is it a big deal?

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually we air dry it outside. Some people will inflate it with a leaf blower to dry the kite faster but that’s not necessary. Once it’s dry enough to launch, you can fly it for a few minutes too to further dry it. It’s not a huge deal if you pack it a little damp so long as the kite doesn’t sit like that for a long time - then you may run into mould

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the wind is up high, so not a great spot for windsurfing unfortunately

  • @TKM11370
    @TKM11370 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you guys depower your kites when the wind gets super light? To keep them in the air?

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't usually. With the Soul just letting the bar out will normally keep the kite up in super light wind. In this case, the wind dropped to almost nothing so depowering wouldn't have helped :)
