Nobody was ever charged with insurrection. Despite this 98% of all defendants were convicted in a city where 90% vote for the opposing political party. In 2016 in New York Central Park thousands of people watched a mock execution of the newly elected President. In 2024 in Poland the leaders of the newly elected party arrested their predecessors. In 2024 Spain's new leader is trying to put the opposition in prison. In the US the current President is trying to put his predecessor in prison for 300 years to avoid losing the next election. A man in the US was convicted and sent to prison for a meme. It's one of the first cases in recent US history where freedom of speech was ignored by the judge and "jury." Now judges are ignoring people's rights altogether. We're descending rapidly.
@ryanb6047 Yes, agree. But bad as it is, there's no comparison to the punishments of long ago times, when people were put to death by way of burning, hanging, disembowelling and so on. And many of those people were actually political enemies of whichever tyrants were in power at the time. The thing here is to try not to let things go back to that, but, as the old saying goes "what goes around comes around." Yet, who knows what it'll be like in a 100 or even a 1000 years time! Better, I hope.
