Really enjoyed your playing, as a keen Nelsonian I thoroughly enjoy his influence and influences on or with other musicians. “Chimera” was another step into virtual band-land, with Mick K’s wonderful playing and tones and Yukihiro Takahashi’s drum rhythm tracks blending in a truly global mix. It’s all very well having the album but a live rendition is the breathing 5th element that makes it spark.
I really enjoyed this. I have to agree with you about the mixing of the original. I wish they’d remix it. Mick Karen’s sound can over take a track but you know that when you ask for him. I would really like to hear the work he did for Kate Bush that wasn’t used. I also hear he might have done a second cut for some of the tracks on Gary Numan’s Dance album. That would interesting to hear too.
I don't usually go for these copy-cat emulation posts. But in this case, well observed & much care & love observed. I can only marvel at your effort in homage to Mick Karn. Always loved Chimera by Bill Nelson too.
Great playing - and you are right, the bass line WAS mixed too low. It's the main melody line in the song, and as such it should have been given more prominence.
@@IanMiddletonX Me too - I did lots of sessions on my Wal Pro 1e fretless. I couldn't play fretless for many years - it just sounded SO '80's, but last year I got myself a 1986 Status S2000 fretless, and I'm loving it again!
@@alanhaynes418 Blimey was it really a year ago I commented on this?? Just had another listen and still sounds good to me. The Chimera album was the perfect blend for me between Bill Nelson and Mick. I think the eastern Mediterranean style of the main theme really worked well with Mick's playing. I was in a band at the time with a Greek bass player and we all loved the sort of stuff (I still do). The bass player also have a Wal set up although we lost touch until about 10 years ago. Sadly he was burgled and lost his bass and all his Trace Elliot backline. I keep trying to get him to work with me again but we've both been out of the scene for so long we both feel a bit nervous about what would come out. Are you still playing?
@@IanMiddletonX Yes I'm still playing - I'm currently recording a 'concept' triple album in my home studio which I will start releasing on Bandcamp under the name 'The Moss Collector' when I have complete the first side. I'm playing fretted and fretless basses, drums and percussion, electric guitar, 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars, classical guitar, vocals, soprano and alto sax, flute, Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos, various synths and samplers, but no banjo.
Really brilliant bit of playing. Wish I'd picked up the bass years ago now, reckon I'd have done better with one than rhythm acoustic, I can only just about keep rhythm these days ha ha. Cheers 😎

Note perfect as far as I can tell - well done! Agree that the original has the bass too low (was listening to it the other day). Many thanks,
Thanks for listening.
Even as I watch this I can’t comprehend what you/Mick are doing! Absolutely fantastic. My favourite Mick Karn bass line & brilliantly performed
Thanks for watching. Its a fantastic bass line. It took me some time to learn it.
Beautiful… Thanks for bringing the bass way up in the mix

thanks!
all the best musicians are self taught. well done
Excellent work!
Thanks very much!
Seemed pretty spot on to me. I love watching bass players playing this sort of stuff. I assume that's a lined fretless?
Thanks very much. Yes, it's a lined fretless. There was a lot of cool fretless bass playing in pop songs in the early 80ies.
@@leitnerjoe I know, I was in a band with a fretless bass player in the 80s. He had a Wal like Mick.

Mark, thanks very much!
Every gonna do a new primus melody for the new album?
NOT BAD!!!
my god - this bass has got a great sound - fat and round ..... or is it a matter of amplification ... ?
You're freaking fabulous...just sayin'. :D
