“Engage brain Phil.” I love Phil, he’s always so excited about his finds, which I hope is natural and not scripted. If not scripted, I love that he’s still so excited about his work after all his years!!
I love this episode! I learn so much English, Scottish, and Irish history from this show. Being of English and Scottish ancestry, I love to watch Time Team. Thank God it is available to stream.
Love watching archaeology shows! We get to see what they unearth and learn more in the process as well. I wish Canada had a similar show but i'm happy being able to watch any shows like this. Time Team is awesome!
Cromwell was a vindictive, self-righteous hypocrite who laid a pall across all England until the beauty-loving English cried , "Enough!", and booted him out !
Dark Ages? Matilda - ok, maybe. Edward III or XVI cent? Nah. (I know there are people who use that terminology broadly, but by the time of the O'Neil castle, the Renaissance was already over in Italy! And 14th century, while very grim, was well into, if not past, the High Middle Ages.
They have a full time job during the week also doing archeology so F/S/Su are the only days they can do the show. If they don't finish something, they have to leave it as is. They have a strict permit schedule.
this is the classic show time team. Which lasted 25 years ,I think . And no way did the time time say these were dark age castles . Castles djd not exist until around 1000 ad..
I wanted to be an achologist as a kid but my mum pointed out that if I was a journalist I wouldn't have to dig all day but could still be there for the finds. Lol I only ever covered one dig and it was fascinating.
3 days for archaeology is nothing edit: actually watching the 2nd part of the video im sceptical they actually do it in 3 days, instead they have 3 days of recording in between however much time passes
I wish they would get more days and have more of an opportunity to dig in more areas. These guys are a trip! 😄but also do some interesting work depending on the episode.
I imagine it depends on definition of “dark ages” as some people would define dark ages as 3rd-11th century while others might push it all the way to the beginning of the Gutenberg Press and Protestant reformation. Besides, it’s all Middle Ages, low Middle Ages, high Middle Ages, late Middle Ages, Renaissance, etc.
@@nostromo7928 it’s a contentious topic. It’s like asking “when did Rome fall” and some people will say when Constantinople was captured by Ottomans, others would say it was when the western Romans empire fell.
Wearing life jackets on a big boat on a calm river shows what a weak nanny state the UK had already become by the start of the century, no wonder it's such a sad feeble woke train wreck now.

It wouldn't be scripted. It would be slightly rehersed for the camera man and Tony for the shot set up but Phil would be a natural reaction I suspect.

Time Team talks castles i listen. Love you guys
Omg ! The two nutters and Phil are just the BEST!!!
Best time team video iv ever seen, well done.
Edward III was the winner of the Battle of Crecy. It stands to reason that some of his works would be influential to future kings.
Finally....
A Time Team
I've Never Seen!!!
I know the Dark Ages isn't a very popular term these days with academics, but man, it sure is evocative.

love this they are so much younger here
😊🤭
This might be the first time that “so and so hit a wall” is a good thing haha
Always enjoy !
Discover the mysteries of three long-lost Dark Age castles in this enthralling documentary about the field of mediaeval archaeology. 🏰✨
Such a shame it was demolished, beautiful castle
Cromwell was a vindictive, self-righteous hypocrite who laid a pall across all England until the beauty-loving English cried , "Enough!", and booted him out !
Actually, Oliver died, and his son was voted out in favor of the Parliamentary Monarchy....and colour and joy returned to the land. Never again !
The only way to be sure is to have archeologists like time teams. I would get in touch with them. I do believe it's man made.
Excellent history😊

They are really doin sum diggin arent they
Phil is almost in Chiner!
Somehow I only find myself wishing that all the historical places could be reconstructed simultaneously…
ty!!!!!
32 degrees!!!!!! OH MY GOD DOWN TOOLS. (from Australia).
I enjoy watching these videos, but I don't understand the purpose. Why do they only work for three days? And what happens when their time is up?
They have a full time job during the week also doing archeology so F/S/Su are the only days they can do the show. If they don't finish something, they have to leave it as is. They have a strict permit schedule.
Time team is amazing, and I miss Mick!
I imagine it precipitates other digs. Their notes will save the next archeologists two and half days work.

Castles in the UK arrived after the Norman Conquest in 1066.
@@eddygonzalez60181066, the year Hardrada was defeated.
1300 was not the dark ages, it would more accurately be called a part of the Middle Ages to late Middle Ages.
I'm pretty sure these guys did the voice over work for stronghold
Getting stuck in the tar of London sounds hellish.
If i could do a do over on life..i would be an archeologist....👍
Same here
Me too! Instead of having children!

Those are not dark age castles. Those castles are from high medieval time.
And now the natives of Britain are experiencing the same thing happening to ourselves today ?.
Do these experts even when medieval and dark ages occurred?

Edward III not Dark Ages….
Dark Age isn't the 14th century.

I think the 1300s are still sometimes considered the “dark ages”
@@Danthesane
I thought it was the time spanning the 3rd through the 11th century as you mentioned.
Definition of dark ages; period of time between the 4th and 10th century after the collapse of the Roman empire.

I would rather eat a bug than to see Phil in short pants.
Go ahead and eat all the bugs you want. Phil in shorts is pure eye candy to me.
