Random story time! Long long ago in 2007, back in my undergrad days, I took a semester course in Japanese calligraphy and poetry, knowing absolutely zero Japanese beforehand. Learning the hiragana wasn't *too* hard, but learning not only how to grind my own ink but to also write let alone stylistically print hiragana calligraphy was... a little time intensive. The "Besaid Island" theme will always remind me of that time of my life, as I spent countless hours in the top floor of our library, in the study room in the corner that caught the afternoon light *just* right, listening to that theme on endless loop and just going full zen on the process. I love that theme, and I love the calming effect that it will always have on me. All of that is to say, this rendition is incredibly interesting in that it is simultaneously comforting and familiar and yet entirely fresh and engaging to me. Your performance, as always, is wonderful, and I love the life and energy you infused into the piece. Thank you for sharing!

I scrolled through the comments trying to find a mention about the ending but was shocked when I didn’t see any. The ending of this song is absolutely mind bending to me as a beginner pianist. I aspire to play and maybe even compose like that someday
Best piece in this collection, and one of the most well adapted to piano in all the volumes. It's that good of a piece. stands on its own as a great piano piece vs just a fan favorite, this infectious little theme is piano bubble gum at its finest. Great execution, really very little to nill to not like here, everything is in top,form. You totally brought it. I dare say this is the finest or at very least in your top 2-3 recordings to date. Way to stick the landing!

I get that for some this arrangement feels too different, but that's exactly what makes it great. There's a lot of Piano Collections that stick so close to the originals that they risk becoming dull. Masashi Hamauzu actually takes a chance and truly adapts the piece to the piano.
Yes I agree, the whole point of the arrangements is for them to be arrangements right?! It's hard to satisfy everyone, because some want total recognition and familiarity, and it's hard to wrap their minds around a new interpretation. That's not necessarily bad, but I prefer a change myself every once in awhile :)
I dunno, I can understand a new interpretation, but at some point it ceases to be the same song. I prefer very close to the original, otherwise the name of the song doesn't matter. Like the "find your way" arrangement. I don't feel it captures the feel of the song. It's one of my favorites from FFVIII and is much too removed from what the original was for me to enjoy.
It doesn't even sound anything like it though as the chords and melody are completely different. Look at the concert paraphrase for Dearly Beloved. That's an example of a great arrangement to me with sections you don't hear in the game but it sounds like the game version
This is a great song for studying...I'm learning the ankle and foot in PTA school at the moment. The emotion is just right in this piano song. Its very peaceful and mellow, but not bland. I love the low dips and then the high piano dips - masterful. This piece doesn't distract me at all during my studying. Great work.

To me, it sounds like it's just the main theme of A (up a tenth to…) C# B that's been retained in the "chorus" of the arrangement. Awwww no not too fast again! lol. I think my version is slower than the official piano collections, so I felt in the end that it could've been a bit faster. I also think that for myself, depending on the time of day or the mood I'm in, I may appreciate a certain piece played slower or faster. That's what makes music so different and unique :)

You should totally play Final Fantasy X (now also in HD), since it is the most emotive one imho, the musics, and characters, the storyline is so memorable, it has the heaviest saddening weight of all Final Fantasies I think, although the story is not as rich and complex as other FF such as FFVII, it has deep and striking revelations and plot twists that blew my mind like no other RPG can, nowadays! It is simply beautiful! :') There are so many songs from it, due to its memorable sadness and emotion, that I wish I'd see you play on the piano :D

This was the first song I ever self-taught myself on piano. You play it beautifully and you are gorgeous. I really like your 'Ami' cover and I'm going to search if you did 'Memory of Light and Wave' because that song is fantastic too.
I'm not a fan of the arrangement, it takes 50 seconds to get to the song and then only stays for 15 seconds. the talent displayed on the ivory's on the other hand is a whole 'nother story, a true treat to behold!

I'd prefer it if you shown your face more, i love to see the emotion while the persion is playing and how it differs with each section and piece. Maybe consider a Picture in Picture set up where you show your hands for the main video and in the corner of the screen have another smaller video showing your face (or vice versa) I love this piece so much, during the main riff at 0:48 i cant help but have the biggest smile on my face all the time. Beautiful playing by the way.
It's quite the departure from the original track in the game and doesn't really capture the same spirit, but it is still a very wonderful piano piece in itself. It's one of my very favourites from the X Piano Collections and you played it beautifully! Almost sounds like it could have been inspired a little by Ravel's "Tombeau de Couperin" judging from the general tonality and texture.
