Go back 20 years you would be lucky to be able to walk through Oxford st... Its a ghost town now.

Compared to Melbourne's scene this is pretty grim.

Sydney in the 90s was the best party city to be found. But that wasn’t high tone enough for politicians. Now Sydney has nothing. It’s finished.

It’s a bit like Manchester’s Canal St since Covid, as people got too used to online dating and mobile dating apps, well beyond just gay dating websites - outside of Pride, most gay venues of the 90’s will be closed down, because due to the increased acceptance of gay people, many gays, if they go out at all, will start going to straight venues and straights will start going to gay venues

I'm from New Zealand and lived in Sydney for 1 year, staying on Crown St just off Oxford St in 2007, when I asked one of the locals about the gay scene while at Stonewall one night he said Oxford Sts golden era was over, he best times were 80s and 90s, I missed it by about 15 years

So true it was an amazing time in the 80s. I used to work at the fab Kinsellas back then and there where some amazing fun clubs on Oxford.. Moved to Europe and have continued the fun here in Amsterdam where I live. Sydney has lost its sparkle, but I was there when it shined!

Man I was there in 2006, and 2009, and it was ace, probably not as good as 80s, I can’t determine that

This used to be THE place to be 20 years ago, now I'm not sure what it is, just a place to go out I guess.

That looks depressing, can’t compare to 25 years ago, it used to be so much fun, its my fault I’m in bed by 10pm now.

Grew up there in the 70’s. It used to be the most entertaining area. Unfortunately, looks like it’s gone to shit.

I live right next to Oxford Street. Yes it is boring living here and nothing ever happens, even though I am a short walk from the city centre.

Australia seems to be far safer than the U.K. or Ireland to socialise in due to its strict immigration laws - being Irish and living in the U.K. myself, Soho in London or Manchester’s Canal St is very dangerous at night and it’s even more dangerous in Dublin late at night, even in Temple Bar or O’ Connell St

Rather dull I find. For a city such as Sydney I was expecting a much more vibrant nightlight. But perhaps it's during the work week. I am a New Yorker and in comparison this looks like in some small town.

Currently, it’s awful... Was once a crazy nightlife experience! However the lockout laws were changed at the start of 2020 and things should start pumping again...

I went to USA in 2004, and thought the night-life in LA, LV were drab compared to back home in Sydney. This part of Sydney used to pumping every night of the week, i was surprised that clubs all closed in LA at 3 and in Vegas at 5, here back then on the weekends you'd have nightclubs close 6 - 7am and the day clubs open at 7am till 11pm
