    This was great!
    The valve on my IBC tote has a crack that leaks so I'm looking for ideas on how to repair (or how to eliminate the valve and glue some kind of faucet / hose / whatever) and some of your ideas were a bit of help, so thank you so very much.
    Greetings from Portugal.

    The threads are only for a cap. Try using a camlock connector first.

    • @mortonsfarm652
      @mortonsfarm652  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The cam lock connector also requires an adaptor that connects using those threads. We have that setup in totes that we need to drain water faster :)

    That IBC tote fitting is designed for a camlock connection not threaded.

    This is seriously helpful!!! Thank you so much for this post!!!
    We just got one of these and are going to be setting ourselves up with adapters! I have some questions about these tanks, though.
    How often do you empty your tanks? Should I take the top cover off so that it can breath when using it for long periods? Should I purposely empty my tank in order to refill it? Just any general small tidbit ownership info you have would be great, thank you so much!!!!!

    • @mortonsfarm652
      @mortonsfarm652  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They are really low maintenance! I empty about twice a year to do a deep clean. I just leave the cover off, but put screen over it so small rodents and birds don't drown. A few feet off the ground helps a LOT for maintenance. If you love where it freezes deep, face spigot towards south.
      Glad it was helpful! :)

    • @lm9858
      @lm9858 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mortonsfarm652 Thank you so much for the quick reply!!! I'll get myself set up with a screen then and take that cover cap off. How do you 'deep clean' yours? We've already got it up off the ground on a few pallets and we live in the south, so no freeze to worry about! Again, thank you for all the info. We really appreciate it!!

    My IBC tote has same scenario as presented here.
    Rather than rely on the few threads present, I went the camlock fitting route:
    D200 Camlock (2" Female NPT) - polypropylene
    reducer bushing reducer 2 x 3/4" - nylon
    3/4" male adapter to garden hose adapter as used in the video - brass

    • @mortonsfarm652
      @mortonsfarm652  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm I have had a tough time with threads matchinf up sometimes. The threads do not seem to want to mate and are easily cross threaded. Verified it is the same thread pitch and not different? I cross threaded mine fir a good 3 minutes re screwing it like 25 times before it seated and screwed on nicely.
      Make sure zero gunk and no lead in threads are damaged.

    • @jaybee5832

      The threads on my ball valve were more coarse than the purchased pvc. I didn't see any pvc with the same thread. I believe that I'm going to need a different ball valve.

    • @jeffjohnson2792
      @jeffjohnson2792 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have a similar issue. The male part is slightly too large for a 2 inch PVC. This is confirmed by turning the adapter around and seeing that the "smooth" part won't go over it either. Some must be slightly larger, perhaps metric.

    • @rednkokie
      @rednkokie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jeffjohnson2792 Same problem. A real head scratch. Solved by using a 2 inch rubber splice pipe hose with clamps. Slipped hose of IBC ball valve nipple and clamped tight with 2 band clamps. The took a 2 inch pvc collar with a short piece of 2 inch pvc pipe that slipped into the the open end of the rubber hose and double clamped it. Then took the 2 inch pvc with the 3/4 pipe thread w/ garden hose connector and glued together. Worked fine, no problems.

    • @scootersonlyrepair6773

      The fine threads on the tote are for dust caps only they will not last long with the pressure of 2200# of water in it. The tote in this video requires a cam lock fitting.

      @@mortonsfarm652 The IBC I bought here in Australia would be US made and has a male Kamlok on the valve with a thread on the end. The thread is 2" NPT which has 11-1/2 TPI The fittings we can get here without buying expensive industrial supply stuff is mostly 2" BSP which has 11 TPI, which varies by only 0.004" pitch. They will screw together over the 5 or 6 pitches on the fitting. I bought a 2" BSP cap, drilled it out to fit a 3/4" bush with a rubber gasket and back-nut on the inside of the cap. I used Teflon tape but still had some leak so added a bit of extra tape and a little silicon and let it set overnight then put my hose fitting on. Instead of this, I have found before on pool fittings that automotive thread sealing paste from Loctite or Permatex is better. Apply liberally, screw it together and wait till the next day for it to "set". It can be unscrewed relatively easily if required.

    Goodonya mate... wondering if you have any idea for sealing the hole when the valve has to be removed (due to perishing) and permanently plugging the ibc?

    • @mortonsfarm652
      @mortonsfarm652  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you just want to seal it a rubber boots with 2 hose clamps works great. One side goes on valveless stem, the other side you plug with a cap. Usually can find all this in plumbing section. You may have to rough up the stem to get a good deal or use a bit of silicone inside as you slip it over. This is how our neighbors have a broken one setup for the cows.
      Thanks for the comment btw. Cheers
      P.s. I doubt it is as simple as unthreading the valve with broken flap and just get a standard tote cap?

      Is the tip of the hose above the water line? How long is the hose? Sometimes when my tote is low on water it takes a long time to push all the air out. Hook the hose up and lie it on ground open and make sure the whole hose is lower than the tote opening. Should get water barring any kinks or blockages.
