      That's probably because my older vids are really poorly explained 🤣

    It turns out there is a lot more to groove than just getting the swing settings right, like I thought. Thanks for providing a few more ideas (on accents, syncopation, and getting various parts to be sympathetic to each other) on how to get everything to gel.

    Every video is superb! If only you were my lecturer when I was at college 24 years ago my music career might of taken off 😆

      Haha thanks, the paradox of teaching in the formal education system though is teachers tend to be doing that for a living because they aren't doing the thing they're teaching for a living!
      I have been offered several teaching jobs but I'd rather make music 🤣

      Many of the lecturers were previosly successful artists and some were doing pub and club gigs. I went on to work as a technician maintaining the studio's and equipment at the college after finishing the HND music production course.

      Yes, most of the lectures at my Uni were ex working musicians. Although I'm not sure I'd describe them as successful. Many had record deals but I don't consider that successful if they don't recoup, which most didn't.

    Hello BtheLick thanks for another great video and hope your well
    I was wondering when timing the vocal if beats are slightly of grid by milliseconds or syncopation, should you have to retime the vocals to compensate for this or do you keep them straight ?

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In general Vocals are much less precise (unless you're dealing with a good rapper) Vocals don't have the consistent transients (attack) of the other instruments. And depending on language certain words need to be ahead to sound in time. For example in English words starting with S or TH need to start before the beat in order to land the transient on the beat usually.
      All you can do is judge it by ear, and how it makes you feel.
      In our example here the vocal is quite 'floaty' as opposed to 'punchy', with few hard attacks so it's not interfering with the groove

      @@Bthelick thanks for confirming , it's my classic looking for one size fits all approach again in which there isn't , again I suppose trusting ones instincts

    Where did you get the vocal for the track? A sample library?

    • @Bthelick

      Which track?

    • @unklmic
      @unklmic 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "Holding on". Although I am not specifically interested in this sample - but just the quality. Every "vocal" sample library I have ever purchased was rubbish. Can you find decent vocal sample libraries or was this via Splice/Loopcloud or something similar? @@Bthelick
