  • We are going over the Darksword Armory's Anduril sword. It is based on the sword in Lord of the Rings that Aragorn uses. We will be showing the unboxing as well as testing it out. We bought this sword to go with his Aragorn costume he made for Halloween. We will be posting videos going over our two costumes soon!
    (The sword is made from 5160 spring steel, not 1050. Our bad. Thanks to Kane Shen for helping us out.)
    *****Keep in mind we aren’t trained in any swordsmanship. We have a love for the franchise the sword is replicated from. We know we aren’t proficient at holding cutting or anything. Please keep this in mind while commenting.
    *****Also, we review all comments and try to ensure our content both video and comments are family-friendly. We are open to all opinions as long as they are family-friendly. I am confident that when the army of milk jugs attacks, you will clearly be the victor! I am waiting for their Oakeshott Type XV. Its about the same size but has a diamond cross section with a hollow grind. I too hope to dispatch milk jugs and their attending sport drink bottle allies.

    Solid review sir! And amazing sword. One of my absolute favorites I bought years ago. And now they stopped making this movie-accurate version. So anyone trying to buy it now only has the option to buy a very different looking one! I am so glad I picked one up before they stopped! And your cutting was fine; don't worry what some say. You're allowed to just swing it and have fun!!

      They recently stopped making this model, so if you want it, better contact them real quick and see if they have any left! Otherwise you'd have to go with their latest version of it, which is very different.

    Pro tip: Longswords have straight blades so they aren't super great at horizontal cuts. Doing a diagonal downward/upward chop works much better. I've cut through much thicker things with a much cheaper longsword that way lol

    • @sauronpwbr9283
      @sauronpwbr9283 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can perform effective horizontal cuts with a longsword, however a vertical cut will make use of your most powerful muscles and of gravity itself, therefore it will be way more effective against a single target.
      Horizontal cuts however will be a better way to fight multiple enemies.

    Also, you must put more into the swing, a lot more. This is the tricky part, swing as hard and fast as you can but without overextending on the exit. Use the bottom part of the grib (your 2nd hand) to stop the motion.

    Might be a good idea to get a wooden training sword of the same weight or heavier and get a lot of practice. That sword at its current sharpness would probably slice off an arm or foot.

      I personally own one of these swords, yes you can wield it with one hand but it is difficult to perform certain maneuvers that you would normally do wielding a one-handed sword because the cross guard is so wide. Other than that is a truly incredible blade and feels wonderful in your hand. The extra weight on the oversized hilt really makes it fun to swing

    @l.o.b.2433 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm going to assume that you aren't trained in historical swordsmanship from the way you cut those bottles.
    Having said that, it's probably not the whole reason why the cutting tests did so poorly. Yes, a lot of beginners didn't manage to cut bottles (I myself took quite a long time to get the edge alignment right) but Darksword is also notoriously known for having horrible sharpening on their blades. So horrible in fact, that the seller i bought mine from didn't even sell them as sharp.
    Edit: And don't forget to keep the blade oiled and away from water. Just in case you didn't know^^

    • @unknowngoals9682
      @unknowngoals9682  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are correct. Neither of us are trained in any swordsmanship. That’s nice to know that cutting can be improved through training and practice. Thank you for the heads up on water will be sure to keep it away from now on. As far as sharpness goes we luckily aren’t planing on cutting anything else and keeping the sword as more of a show piece and not as a functional piece. If we plan on getting another sword for functional use we’ll keep sharpness in mind. Thanks again for your insights.

      @l.o.b.2433 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdventureAddict0 If you have a lot of money to spend, Albion Swords does high quality. But they are somewhat like the Apple of the sword market.
      Dark Sword Armory does good swords by now. They had quality issues a few years back but fixed them from all I heard.
      There's also stuff like Valiant Armory and Arms&Armor for the mid to high range.
      Low to mid might be CAS Iberia/Hanwei, Windlass and Cold Steel. But be careful, they are mixed bags in terms of quality (as one would expect from the price range).
      My first sword was the Hanwei Tinker Pearce Longsword which, as long as you don't want to do heavy cutting (like branches and similar stuff) holds up perfectly fine.
      And of course, you could always just commission a piece. There's an surprising amount of sword smiths out there.
      If you're American, I can recommend Kult of Athena as a general webseite while if you are German (or otherwise in the EU) I can recommend swords&more for the same purpose.

    Don't use a sword like a baseball bat, don't hit water bottles with them. Use foam blocks such as swimming pool noodles. Your hand-and-a-half sword is not a katana and doesn't need to be razor sharp. If you want to slice through small, light objects you should secure them down first otherwise they will just go flying off the surface you put them on without much of a cut.

    • @LangstonDev
      @LangstonDev 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's perfectly fine to cut bottles with a sword, any (well made) sword. Foam is prohibitively expensive for most people and wasteful. You don't need to secure a water bottle to cut properly - if your edge alignment is good and the blade is adequately sharp, the bottle will barely move in a cut.
