Camping in the Redwoods out of a Subaru Crosstrek

- The Redwoods was always one of our top places to visit and we finally were able to make it happen! We spent 4 amazing days camping and sleeping in our little 2020 Subaru Crosstrek at Elk Prairie Campground.

Funny story....we forgot to pack our sleeping bags and realized the first night after setting everything up in the car. It was about 25 degrees that night but thank goodness we had a heated blanket! The next day we drive into the city and bought zero degree sleeping bags, which kept us so warm & cozy for the rest of the trip.

Amazing scenery beautiful music, Gave notice at work, put apartment in storage, bought 2023 crosstreck, wife and I leaving Fremont California for Redwoods, Oregon, Idaho, Montana fly fishing have all proper gear Appalachian mountains drive down to our island condo in Florida, rest then off to Columbia South America to continue living our dream now. As of right now im about a week away from getting a crosstrek of my own. Have always wanted a car to be able to travel in and go to places and it seemed like the best choice. This video really just solidified that I made a good choice and with the right stuff can make it a great car for great trips. Really love yalls build out of your crosstrek

Hello, thankyou for watching! The blocks are leveling blocks for when we sleep in the car so that we aren’t tilting to one side.
Nice Video, I have a questions, what did you use to attach your awning to your basket? I have a basket and also a roam awning, the brakes the awning came with do not work with the basket, did you buy a different fitting kit? if you please can tell me how you attached it to your basket I will really appreciate it.

I'm not sure if this exact one will work on your basket but I believe they make a few different ones. Try searching "LP Aventure Awning Plates".

@@fgonzalez1723 they aren’t traction boards. They are leveling blocks for when we sleep on uneven surfaces.

Thankyou! We use two small black and yellow bins stacked on top of each other on each side to support where our heads go. They also double as storage for supplies and food.

I am picking up my 2024 Crosstrek Premium soon. You mentioned using heated blankets. Can those and the lights you had be plugged into the vehicle for long periods of time without draining the battery? Great video by the way!
We currently use a 1500 watt portable generator. The blanket eats up a good amount of battery so we try to only use it when necessary but the lights can be on for a good portion of the night and not make a huge dent.
to use your vehicles cigarret lighter plugs your vehicle has to be running. They have a self protective shut off for when your vehicle is NOT running, because you DO NOT WANT TO DRAIN YOUR VEHICLE BATTERY, because then you would be stranded until you got a jump start. Better to get one of those battery/inverter power stations all in one, Jackery is the most popular name, but others are "better" and cheaper in many cases. (check out Bluetti! great value & features) You can charge those portable power stations by driving (plug THOSE into your cars ciggarrette lighter), by AC houshold plug, or by solar panels if you buy them.
I'm in the process of purchasing a Crosstrek (XV model), I was just wondering if your Crosstrek has been lifted or if you just put offroad tyres on it?

At the moment it is not lifted, it has bigger tires. (215/75/15)
@@allyandandre wait...it only has 15" tyres? The one I'm getting comes with 17" rims.
@@TheAntibyte no the wheel size is 15”, i have aftermarket wheels. The car originally came with 17” wheels but I chose to go smaller on the wheel size to add more tire for off-roading.

Yes we did book in advance, but if you choose off-season there is good amount of open spots to choose from. The campground is called Elk Prairie Campground
