I can relate. When my first horse died (you know, before the epilogue) I cried, too. I took a few weeks even to recover from that shock. Amazing how horses in this game can cause us to react emotionally.
I dont think I bought a single horse in my play through aside from the one you get early in the game during the tutorializing stage, and even that one was free as I recall. I have since than just stuck with my White Arabian.
During my first playthrough, I bought EVERY horse just to test them. Fun fact: if your honour meter is full or almost full (%50 discount in shops, works for stables, too) you buy a horse for 50% and if you sell it again, for 50% of the FULL price, you actually get 100% refund (you get the same amount of money as you paid) and if you level up the horse, you even make a juicy profit. :) /edit just found a strange typo ("bout" instead of "bought") lol
Is it coincidence that all the Tumbleweed horses are the same as some of the gang horses? Another coincidence is that they belong to the members who died, or fled.
nice :) To me, the best of the whole game is, plain and simple, horses. And how they succeed in making us "bond" with them. To me it was actually quite emotional when I reached the end of chapter six for the first time.

@@Zeobei alright, thanks for explaining. Sounds like your first playthrough because during mine, I surely sounded like you. :) There is a good thing though. Now that you know how it all works, start your second playthrough. On my channel, you'll find a vid on how to retrieve Arthur's money as John. I suggest you either extend your next playthrough forever staying in chapter 3, maybe 4, because those were the happy times. Or you move on as quickly as you can and do all the stuff (buying horses and such) as John. I've kept a save to fall back to when Arthur was still happy in chapter 3, moved to the start of chapter 4 because of long scoped rifles becoming available and just don't progress from there. I also started a 2nd playthrough literally without anything but the utmost necessary stuff (I didn't even have any upgraded satchels) and reached the epilogue. There, as John, I retrieved all the money I had stashed away while still being Arthur, and tried to lead a happy rich life as John. That's when I recorded this vid here. :)

However, I believe that you haven't yet advanced the story "enough" - my vid is from during the epilogue (end game) when all horses are accessible. Maybe a little search on the net will give you the exact answer as to how, or more likely, when, to unlock the horses you are looking for. Enjoy the game :)

I love the strawberry roan, i didnt know that the van had a stable, so when i saw it yesterday i bought the horse out of impulse and named him brute :) but im at the end of chapter six and am going to LosSE HiM :,)

hey there :) You've got the a question everyone who loves their horses is asking as a beginner: can I keep them, somehow? Unfortunately, we can't. The game forces you to play with one horse you ride and three more you may stable. The exception to that is one temporary horse that may travel along with your riding horse. I made a vid about how to manage stabled and temp horses if you're interested. So in the long run you'll have to make painful decisions as to which horse to keep and which to sell. You should consider playing through the game more than once. The first time to learn, in this case to get to know all the different types of horse, and the second time you can make decisions based on your experience of the first playthrough. It will be an interesting ride, that first playthrough, and it may be tough at times, even emotional. The second time will be much easier. :)
Hey there Really hope you see this. So i have ultimate edition and pre order. But only the thoroughbred(ultimate edition) is showing,like in this video. Can you tell me if you have pre order codes? Really dont know if this is a bug or the iron grey ardennes is only avaible in that mission with hosea. Becauese i bought ultimate edition after having pre order the standard after 2 years.
I've got a special edition and no codes. I remember having to choose and the ultimate edition featured online stuff I wasn't interested in, hence "only" the special edition.
@@ArtBlade my special edition came with the preorder code so I got both. Guess I got lucky lol. Honestly though both of those horses suck in my opinion. They are both more skiddish than an Arabian even fully bonded.
@@terrygamble986 :) I remember being all excited about getting a war horse, believing they wouldn't be skittish at all. Then, on the horse the first time, a leaf falling off the tree, and Mr War Horse dies of a heart attack. Well, not really, but it was a hell of a lot more skittish than I liked. Only the Tennessee Walkers were "cool" - and in particular I liked the type you get off Murfrees, the mangy one. You'll see her in most of my vids. :)

The first was extensive, the 2nd rather fast and only to prove that some of my ideas worked (like, buying vintage handcuffs, buying all satchels instead of crafting them and so on - you'll find them on my channel) However, the total amount of time I spent on those two playthroughs is slightly under 2,000 hours. Sounds fair enough? ;)) Keep having fun, mate :)

you can buy it again. Even better, stables will sell the same horse again even if you've still got yours which means that you can actually buy more than one of the same type of horse. :)

@@Joe-qw6xg yes. I found out that it works when I was recording this video because the horses I had bought were available again. And in my stables. I double-checked and made sure it wasn't some kind of misunderstanding and indeed, it works. Just check back later/occasionally and see whether "your" horse has become available again. :)

@@ArtBlade Well, it was the Turkoman. I thought the Turkoman fit in a different spot for me, but I just found out it was actually the Missouri Fox Trotter that was missing there. I really had no idea that the Andalusian (which I just discovered) has been in the game since launch, that really surprised me. I thought the three spots I had blank were from the content update in January due to the Andalusian. Thanks for the help lol
i got three of those in an afternoon and two Arabians. Tip...go to the stables at St Denis, not the main one but the one out of town on the way to Lagras, on the map its marked BAYOU NWA, just to the right of the last ‘A’ at about the direction of 2 o’clock, if you zoom the map there is a ‘red’ looks like a head and shoulders!. The three buildings to the left are stables and there normally two horses stabled there. Investigate the horses, you might have to save and reload, this changes the two horses there, if you see one you like, do not steal it, an alarm is raised and there is a stable hand there moving hay, you can wait till he goes, but what you do is, bond with the horse you want until it reaches level 1, go back to your main horse and whistle, the stabled horse you want will follow, no alarm, go a little way from it, get on and of which allows you to ‘lead it’ No alarm raised!
I wish there was an easy answer to that. The truth is, only you can tell. It's like asking, "which dog is the best?" or what pizza topping or which colour... ask around, and you'll get a different answer every time because everyone has got a reason to say, "this one", and there will always be people who agree or disagree. You'll have to find out for yourself. Just try them all, eventually. :)
I'll be careful answering that because I really don't want to spoil anything for you. Let's keep it simple and true: wait until the main story takes you there. Until then, you're essentially dead if you try to get there regardless. It's like those invisible walls, here the devs simply don't want you to go to Blackwater "too early." Even though I hate it when they do that, I literally had to "play along" and I'm afraid you don't have another choice, either.
if I remember correctly, there was a special edition with mostly online stuff and that edition had another free horse but I don't own that edition. The other free horse is in the Valentine stables as shown in this video.
@@yassinattia1556 you simply have to follow the main mission which will eventually lead you to that stable. There you'll also get the brush for the horse. Patience, man :)))

lol :) yeah, I believe from chapter 6 onwards you can get your honour level up to 100% which gives you a better discount. At least the special edition got that 50% max discount bonus, not sure about normal editions.
Are the horse prices different in different platforms Coz the arabian horse from blackwater costs in 1125 bucks but for you its just 625 Why is it so ?
I'm nearly at the end of chapter 3, but I can't buy horses from either Saint Denis or Van Horn. Because there are no horses available to buy. Although, I can buy from Strawberry stable. What do I do?

@@ArtBlade Well, it was the Turkoman. I thought the Turkoman fit in a different spot for me, but I just found out it was actually the Missouri Fox Trotter that was missing there. I really had no idea that the Andalusian (which I just discovered) has been in the game since launch, that really surprised me. I thought the three spots I had blank were from the content update in January due to the Andalusian. Thanks for the help lol

Simply put: you cannot keep Micah's horse even if you manage to steal it. It is a Missouri Foxtrotter and you can buy one in Blackwater (1:30)

i got three of those in an afternoon and two Arabians.
Tip...go to the stables at St Denis, not the main one but the one out of town on the way to Lagras, on the map its marked BAYOU NWA, just to the right of the last ‘A’ at about the direction of 2 o’clock, if you zoom the map there is a ‘red’ looks like a head and shoulders!. The three buildings to the left are stables and there normally two horses stabled there. Investigate the horses, you might have to save and reload, this changes the two horses there, if you see one you like, do not steal it, an alarm is raised and there is a stable hand there moving hay, you can wait till he goes, but what you do is, bond with the horse you want until it reaches level 1, go back to your main horse and whistle, the stabled horse you want will follow, no alarm, go a little way from it, get on and of which allows you to ‘lead it’
No alarm raised!

I wish there was an easy answer to that. The truth is, only you can tell. It's like asking, "which dog is the best?" or what pizza topping or which colour... ask around, and you'll get a different answer every time because everyone has got a reason to say, "this one", and there will always be people who agree or disagree. You'll have to find out for yourself. Just try them all, eventually. :)
How do I get to black water? I have a big bounty there it’s been there since the start of the game
I'll be careful answering that because I really don't want to spoil anything for you. Let's keep it simple and true: wait until the main story takes you there. Until then, you're essentially dead if you try to get there regardless. It's like those invisible walls, here the devs simply don't want you to go to Blackwater "too early." Even though I hate it when they do that, I literally had to "play along" and I'm afraid you don't have another choice, either.

I visited Drewberry stables in chapter 2 but found only 1 horse.
The Missouri Fox Trotter becomes available for purchase in the epilogue (after Chapter 6)

where is that free horse from in valentine stables?
if I remember correctly, there was a special edition with mostly online stuff and that edition had another free horse but I don't own that edition. The other free horse is in the Valentine stables as shown in this video.

@@yassinattia1556 you simply have to follow the main mission which will eventually lead you to that stable. There you'll also get the brush for the horse. Patience, man :)))
When I go into sanit debis it says no horse for sale
the stables in "Sanit Debis" unlock when you get to chapter 4.

at least there is a white Arabian to be found in the mountains which can be stabled :)

I guess you haven't reached chapter 4 yet. From chapter 4 onward you will be able to buy horses there.

lol :) yeah, I believe from chapter 6 onwards you can get your honour level up to 100% which gives you a better discount. At least the special edition got that 50% max discount bonus, not sure about normal editions.

It's because you aren't far enough into story. Strawberry stables has no horses until chapter 3, saint denis has none until chapter 4.
