I would take the Infiniti. A luxury sedan that is heavy and that fast too? Also, Infiniti doesn't make boring looking cars like Lexus does. I love the curvy fenders that Nissan and Infiniti has for some of their models. Go Infiniti!
@J M I just realized that I didn't actually answer your 2nd question. I personally don't think it'll be an issue or less reliable at 80k miles. I historically have drove my Infiniti's to 200k or more with little to no issues. The hybrid is very reliable and I think if you perform your maintenance as intended it'll be fine. It seems like Nathan and Roman are always inclined to go with Lexus every time these two brands are tested against each other even when the Lexus under perform the infinity in just about every test. Considering my experience with both makes, I don't agree with some of their reviews. There is some bias when Toyota/Lexus are involved.
I'm a Lexus man myself, but I like the price point of the M35h. I might consider a used one. One thing that annoys the crap out of me is that it changed its name to Q70. I dread explaining to car enthusiasts that it does.not have a 7.0L engine
GS450h 0-60 in 7,36 is impossible. My dad's GS300 does 7 seconds about 0-60. So it is really faster, we drove it for test and we did around 5-6 seconds.
this is TRUE! I'm an nissan Employee at the Nissan Manufacture engineer dept. and have seen on paper about the 2014 revised unit! i have the M56s ipl aero kit and i love it! can't wait to the the 2014..be on the look out for the new G one word! Fast!
Yes we do. Believe it or not, the paddle shifters rarely make the vehicle faster. The best use for most of these paddles are for holding gears/rpm in a corner. Thanks for watching!
The Infinity doesn't compromise luxury performance or fuel economy. Compare it to the GS450h and you can see the lack of performance from the Lexus. The CVT from the Lexus cannot match the 7 speed Auto from the Infinity and it also gets better MPG and has more trunk space. The Infinity also beats the Porsche Panamera hybrid in acceleration. It's truly is an exceptional car -VideoHobbyist
@toyota4life I was just stating the specs and why I would pick the M over the GS. Obviously you can't handle why I would choose the M. I would choose it because it's faster gets same MPG and costs less. The drive feels more spirited vs the isolation of a Lexus. Both are great cars, I just think I couldn't stand the dullness of the Lexus and the CVT.
No contest, if you test drive both of these cars the FEEL that the GS provides will always be hands down. This is why the GS is currently considered best in class hybrid or non hybrid.
Eric Wise believe it or not in terms of size, the Avalon is closer to the Camry. Nissan never wanted to make their flagship a numb Giant family hauler like the avalon is. The maxima I would say is more of a niche sedan then an Avalon competitor.
I've seen the Lexus accelerate far quicker in other reviews, you can actually hear it accelerate quicker, I think these guys deliberately made Lexus look bad in this test.
I feel in this class, 0-60 shouldn't be a big determining factor in your purchase. The fact both reviewers rated the GS450h higher than the Q70 hybrid (the newer M35h) speaks volume.
Impressive. Not only does the GS450h beat the Infiniti M Hybrid, it even beat the Porsche Panamera Hybrid (MotorTrend) and the BMW 5 series ActiveHybrid (Autobild).
Infiniti 0-60 is about 5.0 seconds at sea level that is insane! 7 speed auto In real world driving the M gets 27mpg avg $54k base Lexus 450h 0-60 is 5.7 CVT Real world Mpg is same as the M at 27mpg avg. $59k base Infiniti needs more refinement but drives sportier than the GS due to 7 speed auto. I'll take the M over the GS, that power is just too addictive.
The later GS450h is slower than the first one. My 2007 is rated at 0-60 in 5.2. I measured it with a G-Tech Pro with some weight on board at 5.8. Certainly quicker than 6 seconds.
Many car review mediums have eaten their words in the past about Lexus being bland when they test drove the GS F sport, when they FELT the difference, not judge it from far away without feeling the experience. Many people HATE on the LFA because they've never driven or riden in one before, many haters have been converted after being in one, there is a reason why. The culture of Lexus is not only PLUSH but now DRIVING FEEL and EXPERIENCE is considered.
I understand that Lexus are generally more refined, but I don't agree on people saying Lexus has more 'Quality'. Infiniti has similar quality and can be just as reliable as Lexus if maintained properly but more sportier. Just look at lexus IS or ES, the interior just plain sucks in my opinion so where are the luxury there? CT series looks and feel like a toy car. Both different in taste, nothing is better than the other. I personally would take M series over GS any day unless I reach the age of 50 and get tired of sports driving.
Read published reviews like the Motortrend comparo between the GS hybrid, Panamera Hybrid and M35h. The new GS has been judged to be a better handler than the BMW 535i,Audi A6 and M37S. The Motortrend hybrid comparo showed that the GS was subjectively more fun and better to drive than the M35h
Toyota/Lexus is trully a dull brand and buying one says you don't have imagination. Sure it's safe and reliable but where's the joy, passion, and exhilaration? You might argue with the LFA and the Toyota-86(FR-S/BRZ) but they aren't 100% Toyota. The LFA had Yamaha tune the engine for performance and sound and the FR-S is a joint project with Subaru, it uses a Subaru Boxer engine
Well Lexus just got started and the LFA was a great start, the ISF was a game changer, and so was the latest GS Fsport, where that particular car has beaten the 5 series M package in several comparisons. The new IS is due soon as well as its COUPE counter part. Please don't forget Lexus CREATED the luxury crossover SUV segment with the RX300. Just because they haven't made a smaller version, doesn't mean they don't compete in that segment.
The present still retians most of Lexus's past. The GS is indeed the best midsized sedan that Lexus has ever made up to date however in general & as a brand to its entirety, Lexus is still a subtle alternative to a Luxury sports car. Hence the reason why they attract such an old demographic while Infiniti has always been the more aggressive & genuine luxury sports car since its birth year. Its driving characterstics are more athletic & more engaging then Lexus which is primarily made for comfort
Feminine? WHAT? The infiniti looks pretty masculine to me. I'll choose the Infiniti over the Lexus. What is wrong with these reviewers? Makes me wonder if they're being paid to be biased.
And just because they disagree with your opinion, they're being "paid". I think the infiniti is dated and over-designed. I prefer the Lexus. Thats just my opinion, I'm not being paid to say that. (I wish I were, that would be great)
jojo0827 the Lexus is newer and probably is the first Lexus I would ever consider buying but the Infiniti IMO is still better built and still the better value. Plus the sport model with the 5.6 is an absolute gem.
I hope you realize Infiniti is just Nissans luxury line.. Nissan is currently the third largest auto company on planet earth.. The GTR is faster than ANYTHING Lexus, Audi, BMW and Mercedes make. Every car, Class for class.. Infiniti is faster, that is why they don't compare it. The G is faster than the IS, A4, C Class... Have some common sense.. Lol. Infiniti is signed with Formula 1 Champ Sebastien Vettel ... 3 years in a roll... Toyota already lost 2012 sales in cars to Nissan... LOL
Imo, the lexus has a cooler exterior but wald internation do a wicked kit for the infiniti. So the cash Id save buying the M would go towards a bodykit. I prefer infiniti interiors. Less businessy looking and more focus on designing a comfortable interior around the driver. Also bose speakers built into the tops of the seat, thats rad.
Lexus doesn't have to try as hard as infiniti.. Its a proven brand! There reliable, refined and beautiful and anyone that has owned a Lexus always stays loyal to the brand. Theres nothing better than owning a car that drives wionderful and is bulletproof.. I smile when I hear the word aha
I'm shopping one class down from these two cars & unfortunately the Lexus IS300h ISN'T sold here in North America. The Infiniti Q50 however has this same powertrain in a smaller, lighter body & available AWD. I just wished the Q50S drives as well as the IS350 F-sport however.
And the Infiniti M37h starts at $54,200. Whats $4,000? I don't see how Infiniti buyers are "wannabes" when they have just as much money. And if you want to be technical, the Mercedez E400 hybrid starts at $55,800 and Audi A6 hybrid starts at $56,850. Are people who drive those "wannabes'?
Let me guess, you gents also believe that the iPhone 6 is better than the Note 4 even though the Note has superior hardware and writing capability? This was a 0-60 review and even though the Lexus LOST by a full second and costs thousands more you chose the Lexus? Completely biased reviews will keep you in favor with brand loyalists but once their loyalties shift (remember the Motorola Razr?) Fast Lane Cars will crash and burn for telling loyalists what they wanted to hear instead of what they needed to know.
iSolve That's your problem. You only base your opinions on specs. The GS may have worse specs, but they liked it better based on ergonomics, luxury, and the way it feels. Likewise, people choose an iPhone 6 because it fits them better than a Note 4. In fact, the GS sells better than the Infiniti M, just like the iPhone 6 sells better than the Note 4.
I would still take the Infiniti M. Although in all truth the Lexus GS does have design appeal it still in my opinion does not have the sporty credentials or charisma as the Infiniti which has been the most sports oriented Japanese Luxury brand out on the market while Lexus seems to focus more on refinment rather then the actual driving experience. Anyhow the M37 is due for a mid life cycle refresh next year, its suppose to change drasctically in the flesh even though it wont be a redesign.
Let's talk about the present : at present, the new GS beats the Infiniti M hands down in handling, smoothness of drivetrain and driving appeal. It's not just this comparo that says this ; Motortrend and Autobild magazine also ranked the GS above the Infiniti M for precisely the same reasons. Talking about past Lexus models make you seem like you're dredging up the past just to distract everyone from the cold hard current reality : Lexus GS >> Infiniti M.
You HAVE NOT driven the GS F sport, if you have, you would correct your assumption. The GS is now a true luxury sport sedan, often heralded as best in CLASS with the closest competition being the 5 series. The GS hybrid is also best in CLASS beating out the 5 hybrid, Panamera hybrid, E hybrid, and of course the M hybrid. You can INSINUATE about how you THINK the GS doesn't have sport credentials, whatever that means since you can't base a current product on its past predecessors.
Wrong. JD powers is essentially a poll of car owners about their car's reliability.JD powers objectively measures cold hard numbers not one person's subjective opinions. And the cold hard numbers shows that Lexus has statistically a lower possibility of long-term defects than Infiniti.
I know, the M37 refresh is suppose to look amazing, even though it wont be a redesign its going to look like one regardless. LED drls and revamped headlights will be incorporated due to the new design direction of Infinitis new 2014 G37 sedan which debuts spring of 2013. The exterior of the M for mid next year, like the front and rear fascia will be revised as well as some interior aesthetics. Hopefully they incorporate an IPL sports package or even better......an IPL engine for the M sedan!
The Infiniti is edgier. Lexus can be boring. I'm surprised they thought the Infiniti was feminine. Also, Motorweek had the 0-60 time of the M35 at a tic over 5 seconds.
BIG BAD JOHN There are over five reviews on TH-cam about the infinity m35h, and they all tested the m35h 0 to 60 between 5.0 to 5.5 seconds. Nathan's 6.2 seconds are not the real thing.
For starters Lexus doesnt even have a luxury sports coupe to compete in the entry level segment ranking against competitors like the G37 coupe, 3 series coupe & Audi A5 coupe. Secondly they have yet to introduce a Luxury Crossover like the Infiniti FX, Porsche Cayenne, Ranger Rover Evoque or BMW X6. Whatever Infiniti may lack, Lexus does as well. Truth is, Lexus lacks all the sport oriented offerings of its Japanese & German rivals. Just because you give a car HP does mean its a sporty brand.
Lexus wipes the bathroom with infiniti. Before we traded our '11 IS for the '14 IS I decided to check out the ipl and the q50, wasted my life doing that! Performance wise I like infiniti but the over quality of their products are way below acceptable. What's with that Buick like interior in the q50, the dual acura like screens?.lol Once you have a Lexus you will NEVER step down to the overpriced nissan.
Also Roman and Nathan, when you do the 0-60 mph test, I know you guys tested these in sport modes, but shouldn't you utilize the paddle shifters? I know I would.
You are talking about a track, i am talking about stock time numbers 0-60- 1/4 etc. Plus, thats a special edition LFA JUST for that track. That's just a REGULAR GTR. A STOCK GTR is faster than the LFA 0-60 and 1/4.
Dude save it. Infiniti doesnt have a car that can out run or out handle the Lexus ISF. Their M56 just came in last place while the GS F Sport took first place ahead of the BMW M Sport. Infiniti doesn't have a car that can even come close to matching the Lexus LS460/600 in anything. I wont even bring up the Lexus LFA which has been called one of the best driving and best built supecars of all time. You can like Infiniti all you want but they do not build better cars then Lexus. FACT
I personally would choose the the M but I hate those little wheels they do absolutely nothing for the car, I would have the dealership add the 22' (or 20?) M Sport wheels they bring alot more masculinity to the M, and if they could not do that then I would just get the M Sport(M37 or M56) !
And only a quarter worth it, the LFA Is better, even though the GTR is faster, the LFA, is a limited run Supercar, that is almost impossible to replicate in terms of sound, appearance, and the sheer air it gives off. i mean really which on is going to be remembered in 50 years? the 500 production, Limited run LFA? Or the Extremely quick, however extremely dull GTR?
Screw, the track times, which one are you really going to wanna take home? the limited Edition LFA that took ten years before being put out, Or a car that lacks passion, fun, and while fast, lacks excitement.
GTR faster around the track? sure? Nurburgring lap times: Lexus LFA : 7.14.64 , Nissan GTR: 7.26.70-2009 editon , 7.34.00-2011 edition. all 3 cars were on street tires btw GTR is not a sedan, but a sport coupe ,also supercar. Nice try fanboy, but you failed miserably.

The Camry and Maxima aren't even competitors. The question is really "Would you rather have an Avalon or Maxima?" I'd take the Avalon.

LEXUS FTW. Better looking inside and out and better built.
Best car I have so far (done 30+ already)
And the cold hard numbers shows that Lexus has statistically a lower possibility of long-term defects than Infiniti.
the AC in the lexus is not mechanically driven, but electrically. You're uselessly turning it off when drag racing.
Nissan is nicer than Toyota. Really ? lol
Something must be wrong with the lex stock times (0-60 5.5-6.2) but 7sec is waaayy to slow
I swear every car these guys review there 0 to 60 times are way off. They had a g37 ipl at like 7 something that car is low 5s all day long. IDK.
You guys just have something against Nissan and Infiniti
I know, the M37 refresh is suppose to look amazing, even though it wont be a redesign its going to look like one regardless. LED drls and revamped headlights will be incorporated due to the new design direction of Infinitis new 2014 G37 sedan which debuts spring of 2013. The exterior of the M for mid next year, like the front and rear fascia will be revised as well as some interior aesthetics. Hopefully they incorporate an IPL sports package or even better......an IPL engine for the M sedan!
I'm confused, isn't the 450h supposed to do 0-60 in 5.2 secs? other reviewers managed it in 5.5 :S
Depends on many conditions such as road, altitude, tires, driver weights, driver skills, how much gas in tank, etc.
It's the 2007 GS450h that is rated at 5.2
The later ones are slower.
Just because you give a car HP does mean its a sporty brand.
there is much more in the infiniti that they are simply based about ...
do a review of lexus lx570 vs infiniti QX56 :)....and i loved ur channel..its entertaining, enjoyable, and interesting :)
Infiniti my favourite car
I'm wondering how you can control a car with the inside of your arm?
Lexus wipes the bathroom with infiniti. Before we traded our '11 IS for the '14 IS I decided to check out the ipl and the q50, wasted my life doing that! Performance wise I like infiniti but the over quality of their products are way below acceptable. What's with that Buick like interior in the q50, the dual acura like screens?.lol Once you have a Lexus you will NEVER step down to the overpriced nissan.
really? since infiniti did the screens first? the g/q50 is crap but above that the m series is better and the tech is much better in infiniti
Also Roman and Nathan, when you do the 0-60 mph test, I know you guys tested these in sport modes, but shouldn't you utilize the paddle shifters? I know I would.
You've obviously haven't driven the GS F Sport if you truly believe what you're saying. The LFA was also the STIG's favorite supercar of 2011.
Of course LEXUS FTW!
Fact : JD Powers Long Term Dependability Study : Lexus at the top :)
You are talking about a track, i am talking about stock time numbers 0-60- 1/4 etc. Plus, thats a special edition LFA JUST for that track. That's just a REGULAR GTR. A STOCK GTR is faster than the LFA 0-60 and 1/4.
They're getting better, it seems - but yeah lol automatics are just finally starting to catch up with manuals now lol
FACT
How do you think the acura rl concept will fare up? Its got all wheel drive but less power.
Wrong lap times ;) LFA: 7:14, LFA Nürburgring Edition: 7:12, Nissan GT-R 2009:7:27, Nissan GT-R 2012: 7:18.
After all these years lexus proved triumph over infiniti as infiniti is likely to have a broken cvt now
Infiniti uses autos, Nissan uses the cvts
Nissan > Toyota
CVT in the Lexus? No thanks.
Im gonna guess he didn't floor it because my old 2002 gs300 will do 0 to 60 in 7.5 and its got 118 less horsepower...
I personally would choose the the M but I hate those little wheels they do absolutely nothing for the car, I would have the dealership add the 22' (or 20?) M Sport wheels they bring alot more masculinity to the M, and if they could not do that then I would just get the M Sport(M37 or M56) !
@Dominican they are comparing hybrids, not base cars
They always do these tests at higher altitudes which makes the car not perform as best as it can.
This new M is ugly as hell, the last gen was nicer. Overall I'll still pick the GS.
For the sake of the transmission I'll take the M everytime
Huh? The 5.6 V8 M could tear the Lexus' frame apart, feminine my ass.
Lexus is better
The Lexus looks like a facelifted Camry
Screw, the track times, which one are you really going to wanna take home?
the limited Edition LFA that took ten years before being put out,
Or a car that lacks passion, fun, and while fast, lacks excitement.
Infiniti/nissan fuga always!!!!
GTR faster around the track? sure? Nurburgring lap times: Lexus LFA : 7.14.64 , Nissan GTR: 7.26.70-2009 editon , 7.34.00-2011 edition.
all 3 cars were on street tires
btw GTR is not a sedan, but a sport coupe ,also supercar.
Nice try fanboy, but you failed miserably.
What happened to 'solo dl mounted' thing
A 3.8L GTR could spank the LFA around a track, no problem.
But it's cute that you compare a 400k "supercar" to a sedan, nice try.
no way, i'd take the infiniti untul lexus sheds alot of pounds
I know this vid is old, but using "feminine" as a knock against a car makes it seem... a lot older. Said as a man, maybe upgrade that lingo gramps.
