I was born in 87 but in 2024 this joint is like going back in a time machine. It lets me feel what some of the energy was like back then when I was a baby in NY.
I was 10yrs old when this song came out living in LA. My mom was 28yrs old bumping this w/ a symetrical hair doo, bamboo earrings, working full-time at the county, full-time student, talking about "Shante is wayyy fresher that Salt N Peppa. She also had a boyfreind who was a professional car theef! This guy who I'll call Ricardo was from NYC, became my stepfather, who also fathered my triplet sisters. Mom's and Ricardo still together married, my sisters and I all graduated from college, and we often talk about the 80s and what it meant; survival in the Reganomics Era. I knew Ricardo stole cars, but the brotha taught me so much! He came out here for a job, and was attempting to steal a car, when mt mom gazed at him to alert him there was a hidden police station in the area... That's a real story and long live my family.
The question to ask is, did he listen to this song while stealing those cars lol? I ask because where I was from, this is what we listened to when we was doing the same thing lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1988,livin' in NYC,W106 st between Columbus and Manhattan Ave,19 years old and every car that went by was 'boomin' this bad tune.Respect to you and family.Love and peace.
+Christopher Williams True, I've always and still consider her the best. That voice, even today I pump her through my speakers. Let the world hear her instead of that BS they think is rap today.
They both came out in 88. I just don't think they promoted this record hard enough. When I heard it in the movie Colors, it just sounded so hard. It made Rob's sound like a pop record
Written by BDK & produced by Marley Marl in 1987.. but her voice takes already the great writing/production to the next level. We are left with a true classic here. Its a damn shame rap music will never sound this fresh and original ever again!!
sorry to be off topic but does someone know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my account password. I love any help you can give me.
I still have this song "Go On Girl" and the soundtrack album "Colors" on the original black cassette tape released in 1988 produced from Warner Bros. Still the dopest female emcee to freestyle on the mic. The sample that you hear in the background is from Lyn Collins and the song is called "Think".
This one completely changed the game. It took the female MC up to another shelf regarding respect on the MIC. She’s the 1st!!! U She’s a legend. A whole lotta guts & bars
@@ruudschaffer5340 I know. Its still James Brown in a since that I believe it was his players behind her and they did work together on a few things. Kind of like Fred Wesley and the JB's kind of thing.I could be wrong but I don't think I am..😊💯🎶🎶

Me toooo!
Shante voice is as clear as a bell,
flow is Immaculate.
Big Daddy Kane wrote it.
Has his signature flow all over it.
Shante is the blueprint that Nicki minaj used. Calling girls her sons and herself the queen and dissing any girl that thought she had a chance
Legend classic song
"Some girls are fresh, but Shante's the freshest."
David Conroy pay attention listen watch the girl go 😁🙌
