My 3dr is supposedly stock with 52k miles in the clock and it ran 183hp on the dyno and the lowest run was 177, so they run more power than stated. They also pick up earlier in the rev range than the B47 in the 320d and this engine is very well mapped on the standard car.
I suspected this a few months ago.... My 520d is tuned at 218bhp and 450nm and my friends cooper sd "170" kept side by side with me all the way to 125mph on a runway track day. I have nailed gtd golf's with 181bhp but I could not shale that thing off. I suspect they quote 170bhp to stop any rivalry with the 120d (which I think it would out sprint)
Is that automatic? If not it sounds like an automatic :P. The Mini Cooper SD is one my my dream cars but north americans hate diesels so I'll have to move for that to come true :). Right now I have a 2003 Mini Cooper S (the supercharged one, with a 6 speed) and it is pretty freakin awesome!

Must be chipped. The standard John Cooper Works does 0-60 in 6.7 as does the e-mini. My mates 2014 countryman 2.0d is chipped with 166bhp and 348nm torque, which is similar to this one, and that will do 0-60 in low/mid 8s. Mind you he's never measured it in Sport mode, which does get you off the line quicker, but it's unlikely to take a second off
This is not the N47 as your mates car, this one has the B47 engine in it which actually come as standard in bmws with 184hp or 190hp, this engine remapped can get 210hp easy without any bolt ons.

@@graemeriley5241 and it weighs a lot less as well so the power to weight is probably very similar.

mini weight is less , has 170 stock its the SD and 360 nm chipped this 1 has 220 hp ;) 440 nm

The average in all tests is around 8s, cooper S struggles to get below 7s in many tests. Maybe you were just lucky to get +20% :)
