I know Drill Sergeants use have their Champaign Hats bronzed when they completed their cycles. Drill Sergeants use to have blocks to put their Stetson hats in.

How often do you poly it? I have both a felt and straw hat I normally wear the felt for parades and the straw for everyday wear since it doesn't bend up.
Great video brother, getting ready to go to the trail myself just graduated on July 3rd class 014-24 I was also in assassins.
Polyurethane is a oil based product, so you would need a oil based paint brush, not a latex brush and if your going to clean the brush you need paint thinner or a turpentine, or better yet get a cheap brush and toss it after lol! tc man, former ground pounder myself
Good video. I learn that trick my second week on the trail. The rain really wears those hats out. CIF hated to see me coming when I DX my hats.
Well, that’s what their there for!! To issue us gear when we need it. They can be mad but they still gotta hook up some gear.

If you use oil based poly get some acetone or paint thinner and put your brush in there and it will come right out.
Take a shot for ever time he says freaking.
How to Clean Polyurethane Paint From Brushes
Fill the plastic bowl halfway with paint thinner. ...
Leave the brush in the bowl of paint thinner for 15 to 20 minutes. ...
Remove the brush from the bowl and rinse it with lukewarm water. ...
Pat the brush dry with an old towel.

Hat repair people can fix those bowing and warping, I forgot their actual job title. But I’ve sent expensive fishing hats their way and they do a good job. I’m also not a drill sergeant so I wouldn’t know if someone else can touch a handle your hats.
Why don't you just keep it in a hat press when you're not using it or bake it in the oven with a press. It'll harden over time and it won't curve.
What about maybe wax paper on your press then put it in the press to get it nice and flat or do you press it after the poly is dry ?
I did it after the poly dried. I think next time I will try wax paper. I believe my battle buddy did that so imma ask him.

If you have an odd shaped head, your cover will look more like a party hat than a campaign one.

How many times a week do you poly your hat, to keep it straight amd stiff?
I pollyed it once a day for 4 days one week as the initial poly. But if I were to wear it as my primary hat, I wouldn’t poly it throughout the week.
Get some lacquer thinner and let the brush sit in it, then rinse it with warm water. Let it dry and you should be good to go.

Till the End!! Nice D35! I was in B35 when I was in basic. I’m an Engineer but the Army just put me in Chem while I’m on the Trail!!
Now this is an unlikely scenario, but say the Hat gets broken or bend in accident, do you have to buy another one or does the Army cover that?
We can DX em if needed once we’ve had em for a while. I think they said 4 DXs a year.
What are your covers made of? If they don’t already they should make you guys moisture resistant for just that scenario.

what do you mean by a press? is it like a steam press? or just something that goes over the rim to press it down?
Well, mine is hinged on one side, 2 pieces of wood. The top piece has a hole in it so my hat can go through. On the opposite side of the hinged side is like a twist lock thingy. Let me see if I got a pic of it and I’ll show u.

Not sure. For me, my PC size is 7 1/4 depending on the way it’s made. My campaign hat is a 6 3/4. Drill Sergeant Leaders sized me at the academy.

My patrol cap is 7 3/8 and my Campaign Hat was sized at 7 by my DSL

Alpha 3-10 is where I went to basic, on Feb. 4 2019, cycle 01-19. There wasn't a DS Gonzales. There's still DS Buckles, Milne, Guthrie, Altheiser, O'hara and Zeigler. From what I know. If any of them ring a bell.

When it’s new yep! But ur gonna break it in. Even then, sometimes it’s still uncomfortable.

No! This TYPE of COVER is called a Campaign Hat. Other TYPES of COVERS Soldiers wear are as followed:
Patrol Cap
Pt Cap (aka) Fleece Cap...etc.
