My experience with ascorbic acid has been miraculous. I have melasma with medium skin tone and had heard that vit C was good for that. Found a 12% serum in butylene glycol to try. I have oily skin with large pores and a lot of hyperpigmentation. This was my very first active, had not tried any other skin care products other than facial cleanser and moisturizer. At first the serum stung when I would apply it so I only used it once a day, sometimes every other day if my skin was irritated. After about 2 weeks my skin adjusted and there was no longer any stinging. I watched my skin transform before my eyes over the next two months. It helped with every problem I had reducing pore size, fading the hyperpigmentation somewhat, but my face started to look more plump by month three. Honestly I was shocked and thrilled, my wrinkles look less, I'm 43. It got me hooked on researching and trying more skincare actives because I really do look younger now. I hope that encourages someone to try ascorbic acid.
I love this powder. My skin seems to handle things well. I’ve been using 1% retinol for about 10 years now every night. I just recently added the TO LAA powder. Currently, at night, I start with a potent AHA+BHA, buffet, hyaluronic acid+B5, 1% retinol, and then as the last step in my routine, I mix the LAA powder into my moisturizer with a few drops of squalane. I started with half a scoop of TO LAA powder with moisturizer the size of a couple of peas, (I like to spread down my neck and then rub into my hands) and a few drops of TO Squalane at first and felt nothing. I’ve now worked my way up to a heaping scoop to the same amount of moisturizer and squalane above and now feel I have a perfect balance for my skin. I’m pretty tingly, in a great way, but not irritated. I’ve never skipped the retinol.
How helpful, thanks. I started using TO LAA this week and I just added a little into my palm then two drops of my TO Hyaluronic acid worked it all together and it seems fine so far. What do you think about that? Is that safe?
Bless you thanks hun. It feels like only yesterday I left my job in the hospital, and I miss the research so I do it for You Tube instead. I wish it paid the same salary lol. x
Whoa! I think you might making this much more difficult than it actually is. For me anyway. I have some of this Vit C powder on order from The Ordinary. I plan to use a 20% Vit C mixture with water. So that means I will need 1 part of the Vit C powder to 4 parts of the liquid. I plan to use distilled water and bring the ph down with vinegar (this will take some testing and hit and miss in the beginning, but once I get the formula, I'm set). And I plan to mix up several days at a time. I have figured that even if it starts going bad before I get to the end of it, I will just mix up more. It is so inexpensive compared to a lot of the skincare out there. After all, I got 10 products from The Ordinary for less than the one bottle of Sunday Riley Good Genes that I was using costs.
This reminds me. My grandpa used to have a big plastic jar (not transparent white) from the pharmacist with vit. C powder in it. He used to take it every day for his entire life (internally). He lived to be 84 in quite good health. Unfortunately he had a heart condition, but even with it, he lived a long life! NOT that you can take this one internally. Big difference between getting it from a pharmacy, pure, and from a cosmetic company (which might have additives making it not good to take internally).
Of all The Ordinary reviews, yours are my fav. I appreciate all the credible information you dish out. You're also a pale princess, so I naturally feel a kinship. Cheers!
I just love you! You’re such a science geek. 😂 Thanks so much for this, and I adore your background! It looks so beautiful with your hair colour. P.S. You’ve just convinced me to stick with my Vitamin C serums. 😂❤️🇨🇦💋
Thank you for this thorough review. I have been waiting for this to come out and for you to review it before I decided whether to buy it. I definitely can’t be bothered with mixing it myself. Way too much hassle! But looks good for those people who do like to diy it. I will continue using my timeless vit c that I’ve been using for about a month. I’m very impressed with it. It’s the only vit c serum I’ve seen results with and I’ve tried a few way more expensive vit c serums including drunk elepehant which I wasn’t impressed with at all (their AHA toner in pink bottle is good though) and the skinceuticals which felt nice but the results weren’t great. Timeless is now available in the U.K.
I mix a little fine vitamin c powder into squalene. Then I take a small amount and mix it with my Clinique moisture surge. I’ve had good success with diy serum as well but prefer this. Fell in love with it when I tried Clinique’s vitamin c booster, but it’s $20 a week. The main ingredients are vitamin c and squalene. I have also found my skin prefers the lower % (no matter which method I use). This will help me fine tune my measurements, thank you! I agree with the cons, though. I’m going to buy the Timeless CE ferulic. I’ll see how it goes.
Hello Karen!!! I've been watching your videos for 2 years now!! Thanks for sharing your knowlendge!! I have many products from the Ordinary and they're all working like a charm and I'm a big fan of the company! I would really appreciate your help on this. I've been using this powder for a year. I've been mixing half a scoop with Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%. All great but I can use it only at night cause it's not to comfortable under makeup.. it feels a little grainy.. so I've thought to add a drop or two from the Hyaluronic Acid. The mixture was very pleasant and glided on smoothly!!! Made my skin glow!I've been wanting to ask you Is this right? The percentage? The HA drops? Is this mixture working or am I just wasting the products for no reason? It stung a little bit the first day and then it was ok. Could 2 drops of HA be the way to make this great powder to work with Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%?
Hi Anastasia! Thanks so much for watching for so long! Hmm, its a difficult question to answer as this video is a few years old and I haven't used the powder since. I do remember that I gave formulas for using with a water product in the video but said there is no real way to 100% get the right formula unless you PH test each time. Using with HA is a great idea! I just can't say how many drops to how much powder (other than what I said in this video)specifically. I'd say its better to use HA than R&F though as with R&F I don't know if the C would penetrate well...... xxxx
I keep the original box the product comes in and store the spoon outside of the jar inside of the box. I store the product and spoon inside of the original box. I keep all of my The Ordinary products stored in their original boxes and take them out to use them. It keeps storing them neat and easy to read each box. I have a dedicated shelf on the inside of my bedroom linen closet. I mix 10 drops of The Ordinary resveratrol 3% + ferulic acid and 10 drops of pycnogenol 5% with 1 level scoop (use less vitamin c if you experience skin irritation) of 100% L-ascorbic acid. I mix these in a tiny clear glass bowl with my fingertip until the vitamin c is dissolved. These products enhance the 100% L-ascorbic acid. Or you Google it you can learn about how these 3 products work together. I apply to clean dry skin. After a minimum of 30 minutes I then apply The Ordinary natural moisturizing factors + HA. I apply all of these products to my face, neck, décolleté and the backs of my hands. Try it!
You're right. The vit c powder I buy and use from a sort of health store is definitely granular when you compare it to how you describe this. It dissolves but the difference in texture is there.
I just made another batch of vitamin C serum last week. I was in a hurry and I think I added too much vitamin C powder, because it burned my skin and now it is all dried out. So I am giving my skin a break and using extra moisturizer. Also, I am very intrigued by the wall behind you. Love the color of blue and the brown together. Where are you sitting?
Can i mix the Resveratrol and Feluric acid serum with a moisturizer( Natural Moisturizing Factors for instance)? Because on their website it says water impairs the stability of the resveratrol antioxidant and thus the formula is water-free
I destroyed my skin barrier for three months using ascorbic acid and mixing it with my cleanser, so I would say listen carefully and less is more in this case. Great info thanks.
I was mixing it in with my rice cleansing powder (Korean) which I used for years no bad effects I mixed in 20% but it was just over the counter not the Ordinary. It took one week and now about five months later I still have a patch that wont heal.
I am sure The Ordinary uses a better quality, but I cringed when Karen said she used it like a face powder. I currently use Triple C Cosrx and Klairs. I was using clinique C and it greatly improved my skin but I thought it pricey for what it is. All in all its a really effective product if you be careful with it. Pores especially see improvement and texture. I dont like sticky texture so I have trouble finding ones I will reach for. DHC vit C is very good but I hide from it. Might try this with my Cerave hydrating cleanser once a week.
Why did you cringe regarding the face powder Lupe? I only used it once on my nose to see what it felt like, but it wouldn't really do much being as it was on top of a full barrier of makeup lol x
Lupe Luis it ruined my skin barrier for a while there as well. Not from homemade but rather from a strong formulation with an extremely low PH of 2.5. I’m ver cautious with all ascorbic acid products now. I have also made my own but it’s more effort than I’d like.
Baring in mind that Clinique have a mix-and-use vitamin C product which lasts for a week, how long do you think any mix made with this powder could last? And also, are your spoons heaped or pressed-and-leveled or just leveled?
How long they would last would depend what you mixed it with and how you stored it, but as I said in the video, I don't recommend doing it this way as its unlikely a home DIY serum would make something that would last long at all. Spoons are levelled. x
This was more informative and helpful than the ordinary website. I'm also a diy-er in vitamin c and your right about it being much more granular but eventually it dissolves so it doesn't bother me too much. Thank you for all your work!!!
Just wondering if you could tell me what order I might want to apply these TO products (100% l ascorbic acid mixed with resveratrol+ferulic), alpha arbutin 2%, and azelaic acid? I normally start with a Vit C serum, then apply alpha arbutin, azelaic acid, and sunscreen. But, you mentioned the mixture of the l ascorbic acid and resveratrol + ferulic was oily, so curious if it should be applied after alpha arbutin and azelaic acid, but before sunscreen? Love your vids, you are so knowleagble!
I love this video! I just bought the powder and I was confused with what to add to the powder to make it effective. This video is super informative. Thank you :)
You are correct about Vitamin C powders from health stores being very grainy and when I tried it I had to dissolve in warm water before adding it to something or it would stay very grainy on your skin. It also irritated my skin so I stopped using it.
shelliemarie I’ve made my own vitamin c as well. I have The Ordinary’s powder now and it’s so finely milled it’s like flour-very easy to mix into a water based serum in your hand and then apply. Thus far, I have not experienced any irritation but rather just a slight tingling soon application.
I have been using a 23% vitamin C with hyaluronic acid and Ferrulic once daily for nearly 4 years. The earliest thing I noticed was skin brightening - so much so that for a few weeks I suddenly looked like I had dark circles! I persisted, found I could safely put it round my eyes and that issue soon passed. I also found it healed my rosacea welts without scarring. I have had a scar on my right side of my face since I was 18 (am 48) it formed when I was washing my face and accidentally knocked the head off a spot that bled then scarred. For years I have struggled to hide the scar, even heavy concealer seems to come off it over the day. A couple of months ago I suddenly realised when applying make up that I could hardly see the scar! It has faded so much and flattened. Vit C is the one product I apply every day so I credit it for that. I wouldn't say Vitamin C prevents lines though! Some people seem to credit it with the ability to stop lines but I have never seen that. Still the healing element is good enough for me. I like the serum I buy, it's about £15-17.00 depending on where you buy it so wouldn't want to make my own, this was fascinating though.
I haven't tried The Ordinary Vitamin C because I like the one I already use. I get it off Amazon - NEL Vitamin C (used to be £15.00 when I first bought it years ago, I think it's now about £17.00-£19.00). NEL stands for Natural Earth Laboratories, last time I checked they were cruelty free. If you have dry skin and want to try this one out you will need to put moisturiser on top of it. I have oily skin and I have found the Vit C great because the hyaluronic in it sucks up any moisturiser I put on top and stops them feeling sticky so it keeps me matte. Have just realised it's now a 20% formulation, I thought it used to be 23% but I still find it the best for my skin regardless. We are all different but I hope this information helps you. I don't use retin-A though. I get my Vitamin A from cacay oil.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with the brand you tried, I have also had many expensive skin care fails in the past! I just looked up the ingredients list again for the NEL and it is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate - am now going to revisit Karen's other videos on the different types of Vit C as my curiosity has been triggered. It rings a bell that 20% is the optimal amount so I'm now glad my one is that percentage. I enjoy experimenting with different products but the NEL is the one constant for me over the last few years. Sometimes I put an oil on top of it (Watermelon seed oil or cacay) and the hyaluronic soaks up the oil a treat. The oil blurs my one "eleven" line between my brows which is a plus! I hope you find something cost effective that works for your skin. Good luck!
I would love to try mixing the Vit c with the R&F from TO. If I mixed them and popped them in 15ml-20ml airless, dark coloured plastic pump bottle... how long do you think I could use that mixture for? Also would that combo be the right one for helping collagen and brightening? Thanks Mrs G x
Hi Pippa, you won't have so many worries with how long it will last because there is no water in it although I don't know how stable or otherwise R&F is. The problem is that it won't penetrate as well as if you use it with a water based product, so unlikely to affect collagen. x
If you used the e& Ferulic morning and night you could mix double the amount and store in a 10ml syringe with the cap on . Been thinking about using syringes to pull serum out... Great idea saw Melanie Simon demonstrating her morning routine with Biologique Recherge serum. Keeps all the air out. (Just pour onto hand no sticking needles in skin.)
I think your knowledge of skincare is amazing.....Now if I ever see anything I would like to try, I say.....Let’s see what Karen says lol......big hugs...Bella xxxxx💝💝💝
Also, if you put lactic acid first, mix with powder, would be better couse lactic have around 3ph so vit. c would work beter couse of that? I am using it that way now, using reservatrol with ferulic with powder and it fells great, i dont have no irratition, but i was using for 2 month 30°% of Ordinary vit. c befor i started with lactic5% with ferulic and powder.
Laura Pazzaglia she also talks about mixing it with oils, while ascorbic acid doesn't dissolve in oils. Maximum solubility in Propanediol is about 5%, in contrast to about 30-35% in water. Since ascorbic acid still has an ionic charge when there's no pH or when pH is above 3.5 it is unlikely it penetrates skin.
That's what I said in the video Peter - it actually does dissolve in the Res/Fer serum and feels lovely, but I'm aware that it may not penetrate as well as with a water solution as I recommend. However, the vitamin C 30% in Silicone technically has the same issue, but worked wonders for my pores :0)
Mrs Ginger Beauty. More than 5% can't dissolve, the rest will just be in suspension. Would be interesting to find out how much penetrates from an anhydrous system like the C30 in silicones.
I live in the US and I would aways use metric. Does help that I work in science labs though. I prefer metric. Never understood why we never converted. I digress.
Hi Karen. Thank you for another informative video. I use otc L-ascorbic acid but I mix it with rosewater and keep it in a dark glass bottle in the fridge. I discard after a week. This way I find I get the benefits of both Bit C and Rosewater. But yes you are right, it is quite grainy lol! Xxx
I have been mixing the Lactic acid 5% with a scoop of vitamine C daily. My darkspots have cleared up but should I mix it with hyaluronic acid? I don't understand what to do now🤷🏾♀️ Much love from the Netherlands.
Mrs Ginger Beauty well, I was trying to figure out how much NMF you used, 5 p size? But I live in the Netherlands, so I don't know how big they are haha. I thought that if you had mesured (or could mesure) the amount of NMF with the little spoon that comes with the powder, I could use that as a reference 😊
If you were using say one of the oils to mix the powder in could you mix up a slightly larger batch? Say week or month because i heard you mention that you don’t need to worry about the stability in the oil. I think it would be easiest to get accurate in percentages and the only con of this for me would be mixing this up everyday
Yes, I don't see why not - just remember though, to keep an eye on the stability of the oils and keep them well away from heat & oil - you don't want to end up losing two products! x
I haven't used any other vitamin C than the Ordinary ones. None of which I liked enough to use for more than a few weeks. So as far as what it does for my skin. Never did enough to know. This all seems to hit and miss. I'm sure you'll continue to play lol. And try to find an easy way. I'm too lazy. I can't believe that the spoon doesn't have measurements in. Like say the spoons for liquid medicines. That would have helped other that guessing a half spoon. Thank you for your hard work once again Karen. Love to you xxx 💖💗💝
probably worth mentioning is that mixing with R&F avoids Ph issue as it's waterless, also you can get set of tiniest measuring spoons for cheap from many DIY sites
Yes, I did say that in the video about PH not being an issue with the oils :0) Can you tell me which DIY sites you are referring to re the spoons please? I Couldn't find anything smaller than the one in the powder. Thanks! x
Hi Karen, what is the Expiration Date / Shelf Life of this power please? I can't find this information anywhere. I've had my bottle for 1 year now. Thank you!
What about mix it with toner for example?? I have toner with hialuronic acid, no alkohol, parabens ( wich arent harmful), aloe vera, glycerin, linalol, hamamelis leaf extact, sodium benzoat, citric acid, penoxiethanol, potsium sorbat, 3-diol ( dont know what that is??)... Also i could put it first on skin wich is good ageas,
Hey can i mix it emu oil without care of ph level ? Coz emu oil penetrate very deeply into the skin if yes how much should i have to use to get 30% vitamin c ? And can i mix it with aloe Vera gel ?
Pedal Power I’m doing the same thing. Only time will tell. I don’t mind the effort if it pays off. I generally cannot use ascorbic acid serums-but I like the way this one feels. Hmmm
Thank you for the very informative video. Isnt there also a vitamin c cleanser (little separate sachets for each use) from CLINIQUE 🤔? Do you think its worth trying?
Wow very informative I was about to feel really disappointed that the recipes u were sharing that I hadn't the right product for effectiveness and balance etc Then u said it Natural Moisturizing factors then as I'm originally from UK when u said 2 p piece or 50p lol I got excited Thx u made my morning and things a whole lot easier xx
Hi Karen what search engine do you use when looking up on journal articles and are there a few journals that publish better quality studies? I would love to watch a video on how you look at methods and results :)
Thank you for this movie! I was wondering how to use this powder because I know it's not that simple as it seems (because of pH and %), but I couldn't find any info about it. And then I found your movie :) Thanks!
I am confused re your opinion/advice re Resveratol; in a previous video you recommended The Ordinary Resveratol product but here you say that the ingredient is unproven. A clarification would be appreciated ...
My opinion is the same - Resveratrol is unproven as are a lot of the skincare items we all use, other than Tretinoin. However, I still recommend it as a nice product with good ingredients and it MAY be useful, we don't yet know, but it certainly will be hydrating and nice on your skin if nothing else. Hope that helps?
Hi Karen, thanks for your research and the info. Do you know a French brand called SVR hydracid C50 mask and also SVR anti-ox vit C ampoule? Id love to hear your opinion about those. Claudia ❤️
Mrs Ginger Beauty any suggestions of specific ph meter? Also, is refrigerator is best/only way to keep product stable? Lastly, (Sorry for so many questions,) any tips if skin gets irritated? I'm thinking aloe vera, but I'm thinking for something to wear in public
Hello, I love your helpful Channel, I was really curious if you’re allowed to mix the ascorbic acid in with the ordinary salicylic acid? If not can you put the salicylic acid first and then possibly mix the ascorbic acid with a moisturizer?
I have Biophora Ascorbic Acid powder and have had such mixed results trying to incorporate it in my routine I think its not worth it! Plus as you pointed out too low/high a concentration won't provide you benefits and can be very irritating. What about Tetrahexydecyl Ascorbate? Do you use this ingredient or know anything about the benefits?
Ur channel is really really helpful...! But please let me know, can i use it with aloevera gel....?? Like i use aloe gel as my night cream...! So yeah...! Pleaseee answer🥺🥺
Mrs Ginger Beauty I have consistency measured anywhere from 0.15g-0.18g for one scoop of powder. (Depending on a heaping spoon or flat scoop of powder) Wonder why our weights are so different? I have used 3 different scales thinking I was getting it wrong! I mean the wrong weight of the powder could throw off the entire concentration of LAA in any given mixture.
hi plz tell me in which thing i have to mix it if no water allowed...i have dry sensitive skin..?? after opening shoyld we keep in the fridge or at room temperature??
Hi After opening ascorbic acid powder where should i keep it ...in cupboard or refrigerator?? In which ordinarybserum i have to mix it hylauraunic acid or any other???
Mrs Ginger Beauty great. I got so confused and felt May be I should not bother with it. I only have a couple of things like the CAIS2 survival 0 and the hyaluronic acid u talked about. And felt out of my depth lol
I would recommend Skin Deva, although I didn't check the PH of that one. Another one I love is a recent one sent to me called Hollywood Youth Secret, but it doesn't seem to have the right PH either :0(
I opened ascorbic acid jar ...now should i keep it in fridge or cupbord?? Also please must haves from oridinary for a fresh glowing skin( i have dry sensitive skin)??
I forgot to mention that I personally wouldn’t mix it with aplha arbutin. I used the ordinary one once and it was quite stronger. I found it stronger than their daily glycol toner and their 30% Aha mask.
So basically this is very tricky to work with I think I’m just gonna give up on vitamin C it is a very complicated ingredient is there any other skin brighteners that would work for people of color I have discoloration from acne I have been using the the alpha aburtin and it’s okay still need to see test it out a little more.
You need to try Paula’s Choice triple dark spot eraser with 2% Bha it contains hydraquinone which is what alpha Arbutin converts to in the skin. It’s considered the gold standard of skin brightening.
Jen Guzman are prone to acne? I heard the alpha lipoic can cause acne and I’m really nervous of that happening; since I suffer from cystic acne around that time of the month but, that does sound like an awesome. combo.
Hi ! I am late on this video but please if you read my comment respond 🙂 can it be mixed with an oil ? I hate that the ordinary doesn’t give enough information on their products... thank you 🙏🏾
Mrs Ginger Beauty thank you so much for responding !!! I emailed them earlier this afternoon they told me that I could when I specifically asked about the potency of vit c when mixed with an oil🤦🏾♀️ thank you for responding 🙂
If you don't like the spoon that comes with the product you can just buy smaller measuring spoons very cheaply. I got 0,1 ml, 0,2 ml, 0,5 ml, 1,0 ml and 2,0 ml spoons for a couple bucks total.
Philosophy used to have a vitamin X powder, I still have some left. Maybe I'll throw some in my differin or moisturizer or an oil or my silicone primer. Idk lol.
Monique Morrison no, ascorbic acid is water soluble which means it needs to dissolve in water. You can purchase an ascorbic acid serum that has vitamin e oil, for example, but the the primary ingredient is water. If you put the Ascorbic Acid in oil, it will not dissolve.
Yes, you absolutely can mix it with the Rosehip oil as I mentioned int he video. It does dissolve very nicely :0) The issue though is that it won't have very good penetration. x
Mrs Ginger Beauty Karen, I love your information. You do your homework. When your videos pop up, I just have to watch! You’re the best! I will say, in his case, while the powder appears to dissolve in the oil, it does not. It will not penetrate at all but rather sit on top of your skin. This Ascorbic Acid is so finely milled it would be difficult to see, but if you test this from say one you buy from Amazon or most DIY sites, it would be more obvious (they are more grainy).
I'm used it with my moisturizer and it tanned my skin alot.. i dnt know why does it oxidizes on the skin.. then i started mixing it water and applied to skin directly.. then topped it with a layer of tea tree oil just to create a barrier between the vitamin c and oxygen to help prevent it from oxidation.. but again it didnt really work for me.. i dnt know how will it work for me.. also i'm from pakistan and ordering reservatrol and ferulic acid will take 1 month or more to deliver.. dnt know what to do with it.. plz guide me
vitamin c reacts in sunlight, so you have to make sure than any time you mix it, you only mix it in small amounts and what amount you do mix, you store in the fridge and use it within a week.
Vit C makes the skin soo sensitive and it consequently results in making the skin very easy to burn and darken w/the sun. It's required to use a minimum 50% sunscreen, any less won't protect the face well enough from darkening and burning from sun UV damage. Also, indoor white lights have approx 20% UV emitting as well so basically only leave the house and start your day with sunscreen!
Your channel is so underrated - you are so well informed about the studies behind some of these skincare chemicals and knowledgeable. Love your videos!!
DECIEM recommends 1/4-1/2 the spoon to 5-10 drops of serum, depending on tolerance. Hope that helps.
I hope that encourages someone to try ascorbic acid.
hey i m using this ascorbic powder ....I have breakout after using this tiny bumps nd all can I stop using this tell me my age is 22
I love this powder.
Is that safe?
i feel like im in my lecture class listening to you but the difference is that i understand what u're saying.
Hi Karen. You are quite the scientist! I am so impressed with how thorough you are in your research. Thanks so much for sharing!💝💝

Oooh, where do you buy the timeless in UK? Thanks! :0) Karen x
You are SO smart and detailed. I appreciate all your efforts in explaining this and so many other products!:)
I realy don’t understand why you don’t have more subs you are amazing and very smart. Big fan here ❤️
Hello Karen!!!
I'd say its better to use HA than R&F though as with R&F I don't know if the C would penetrate well...... xxxx
@@TheBeautyMaverick thank you so much for replying so quickly!!!! Wish you the best!!
I got mine today and it says 12M so 1year from today
I'm sitting in the same room as always, but I have two backgrounds, one is this blue/wooden one, and the other is a brow wooden one. x
Oh okay. I really do like it.
Robin Allgold I
Can i mix the Resveratrol and Feluric acid serum with a moisturizer( Natural Moisturizing Factors for instance)? Because on their website it says water impairs the stability of the resveratrol antioxidant and thus the formula is water-free
I destroyed my skin barrier for three months using ascorbic acid and mixing it with my cleanser, so I would say listen carefully and less is more in this case. Great info thanks.
Lupe Luis same it absolutely ruins my skin every time I use it but other types of vitamin C's are fine it's just l ascorbic acid that sucks
I have also made my own but it’s more effort than I’d like.
my god, gorgeous background, makes your hair color and makeup pop! So Gorgeous!! PS love the science behind your videos too!!
I was thinking of using it with face cleanser or with masks
Timeless C has water but the E+ Ferulic acid makes it stable. It’s amazing. Lots of research on it!!
Very informative video..
just Wondering Can we mix vitamin C powder with glycerin and distilled water and use as a face mask ..?
I don't see why not! x
Beauty On a Budget I just discovered her while researching this product. Subbing for sure.
Beauty On a Budget I subscribed to you because of Karen I trust her reviews 😊
Also, if you put lactic acid first, mix with powder, would be better couse lactic have around 3ph so vit. c would work beter couse of that? I am using it that way now, using reservatrol with ferulic with powder and it fells great, i dont have no irratition, but i was using for 2 month 30°% of Ordinary vit. c befor i started with lactic5% with ferulic and powder.
could you not make a batch of the vit c powder with the ferulic acid? it should be stable should't it?
Ascorbic acid doesn't dissolve well in Propanediol.
Yes, she talks about that combination in her video as being one of her favorites. Ciao, L
I don't understand what to do now🤷🏾♀️
Much love from the Netherlands.
I mix it with CeraVe Moisturizer, super combo😊
Thank u for all that information on the Ordinary 100% ascorbic acid powder.
Can i mix vitamin c powder with a ph balancing toner? would it be effective or not?
Hi Karen, do you know how many ML of the NMF is 1 spoon that comes with the powder?
Sorry hun, I don't understand this question?
Mrs Ginger Beauty well, I was trying to figure out how much NMF you used, 5 p size? But I live in the Netherlands, so I don't know how big they are haha. I thought that if you had mesured (or could mesure) the amount of NMF with the little spoon that comes with the powder, I could use that as a reference 😊
RavenQueen76 1 flat scoop of NMF is 0.3 mL...hope that helps!
Heather Orcutt ty! 😉
What if I mixed 1/2 of the little spoon with RO water instead of distilled water and put on the face instantly ?
Really comprehensive and informative, thanks for sharing your knowledge! :)
Ha! I coughed just listening to you describing the powder going into the air!
If you were using say one of the oils to mix the powder in could you mix up a slightly larger batch? Say week or month because i heard you mention that you don’t need to worry about the stability in the oil. I think it would be easiest to get accurate in percentages and the only con of this for me would be mixing this up everyday
Yes, I don't see why not - just remember though, to keep an eye on the stability of the oils and keep them well away from heat & oil - you don't want to end up losing two products! x
Vitamin C isn't soluble in oil so if you made a big batch you might not be absorbing as much vitamin C as you would using a serum
Hey can I mix the vitamin C powder with alpha arbutin? It’ll be great if ye could reply x informative btw
I haven't looked into that one I'm afraid, AA isn't something I use but its on my list to look into. x
Would really appreciate that coz I don’t want to do any harm to my face. Thank you again. :)
It should be fine
probably worth mentioning is that mixing with R&F avoids Ph issue as it's waterless, also you can get set of tiniest measuring spoons for cheap from many DIY sites
Thank you!
I seem to remember me seeing that it doesn't expire as its powder an on its own a preservative of sorts! x
Hi Jazzyhaze, i got mine a few days ago, on the box it says 6months.
When you test out the Powdered Vitamin C how long or days does it take for you to know if it's working out or not?
Same as with any product, probably about 3 months to really see if there is a difference. x
I ve just been putting a spoon with my resveratol serum. A few drops. Not sure I’d get it agin if it’s so complicated
Pedal Power I’m doing the same thing. Only time will tell. I don’t mind the effort if it pays off. I generally cannot use ascorbic acid serums-but I like the way this one feels. Hmmm
Philosophy has a vitamin c powder similar to this which I'm currently using. I'd love to know your thoughts on this
I don't have it I'm afraid and wouldn't buy it due to price and all the issues I mentioned with this one :0( Sorry x
Thank you for the very informative video. Isnt there also a vitamin c cleanser (little separate sachets for each use) from CLINIQUE 🤔? Do you think its worth trying?
I don't know about those ones from Clinique, they wouldn't be of interest to me as I prefer to not use water. x
So glad I found you!! I love your research. You’ve already taught me Aton! Thank you! Do you have some kind of science background? Sounds it!
Thanks Bonnie! Yes, here is a video talking about my background - th-cam.com/video/dON1PnrpbAY/w-d-xo.html
Please update us if you find more ways to use. Many thanks for all your hard work.
Hi Karen what search engine do you use when looking up on journal articles and are there a few journals that publish better quality studies? I would love to watch a video on how you look at methods and results :)
I use many different methods and websites, its about gathering as much information as possible from reliable sources :0) x
Thank you.! :-) ...
thank you its anew info i use this vitamin c mixing it with rose water or aloevera juice and glycerine and vitamin e oil
Can we mix it with above these??
How long does the powder last after opening?
I don't imagine it'll have an expiry date but would say about 2 - 5 years!
In the bottle says 6 months. I guess because it can oxidize.
How about dermaroll first with a 0.5mm then put your vitamin c solution? Would it absorb a lot deeper or faster?
Yes, it would absorb better that way! x
I have been using rhe drunk elephant vitamin c but its too pricy. I use it with vitamin b. What ordinary vitamin c would you recommend
The simple solution if for the Ordinary to put a smaller spoon with the product or possibly to buy a smaller spoon on eBay ? Problem solved.
Hi. I have the vitamin c 23% and i was wondering if i can use it in the morning and after waiting a bit, use my spf? Thank you very much!
Claudia Marin yes absolutely. It is recommended to use vitamin C this way.
Tracy thank you very much:)
Can you use this powder mixed with a moisturizer?
Yes
Can i mix it with aloe vera gel?
Hi Karen, thanks for your research and the info. Do you know a French brand called SVR hydracid C50 mask and also SVR anti-ox vit C ampoule? Id love to hear your opinion about those. Claudia ❤️
How do you test the PH of the Vit. C concoction? Thank you for all your research!
I have a PH meter x
Mrs Ginger Beauty any suggestions of specific ph meter? Also, is refrigerator is best/only way to keep product stable?
Lastly, (Sorry for so many questions,) any tips if skin gets irritated? I'm thinking aloe vera, but I'm thinking for something to wear in public
Hello, I love your helpful Channel, I was really curious if you’re allowed to mix the ascorbic acid in with the ordinary salicylic acid? If not can you put the salicylic acid first and then possibly mix the ascorbic acid with a moisturizer?
Is the frolic water based. Do you know what sort of mesurment it would be if you used the end of the spoon handle
Sorry hun, I don't know what "frolic" is? Or what you mean by using the end of the spoon. Sorry
Could this be mixed with an aloevera gel? Mix up and use up at once, I mean
I don't see why not. x
I used it and the powder feels grainy. Am i the only one that think it feels grainy?
Its not at all. What do you mix it with?
H R same. I can’t get it to dissolve down at all.
Nina El the ordinary squalane
@@HR-zv9rc maybe its because youre mixing it with an oil. Its best mixed with a water based products and it penetrates the skin better.
Nina El yep, solved that problem. Nowadays i mix it with water based serum
I haven't yet reviewed the TA form of Vit C yet I'm afraid, will add to the list :0) x
Ur channel is really really helpful...! But please let me know, can i use it with aloevera gel....?? Like i use aloe gel as my night cream...! So yeah...! Pleaseee answer🥺🥺
Lakshmi Priya
U can mix the vitamin c in the morning.
I’ve mixed it with aloe Vera gel before and I found that it dissolves the gel into a watery substance so I don’t think it reacts well with the gel.
1 scoop of powder with the spoon is 0.5 grams? Or just the powder?
Sorry Heather I don't understand your question? The spoon measures out 0.5g of powder.... or you can use another method but I'm not sure what lol. x
Great chemistry work Karen. I am gonna stick to their ready made products.
Can we add ascorbic powder with aloevera gel nd apply
hi
plz tell me in which thing i have to mix it if no water allowed...i have dry sensitive skin..??
after opening shoyld we keep in the fridge or at room temperature??
Saba Kaleem mix it with hyaluronic acid available at ordinary
Thanks ...any particular oridinary hylauronic acid or thdfe is only one??
Thanks any particilur oridinary serum??
Hi
After opening ascorbic acid powder where should i keep it ...in cupboard or refrigerator??
In which ordinarybserum i have to mix it hylauraunic acid or any other???
??
You’re so beautiful like a perfect doll.. I love your eye makeup too.
Hi Karen. Could i mix it with clinique moisture surge ?
I don't see why not :0) x
Mrs Ginger Beauty great. I got so confused and felt May be I should not bother with it. I only have a couple of things like the CAIS2 survival 0 and the hyaluronic acid u talked about. And felt out of my depth lol
Which vitamin c serum would you recommend? I know they aren't very stable products and go off very quickly
I would recommend Skin Deva, although I didn't check the PH of that one. Another one I love is a recent one sent to me called Hollywood Youth Secret, but it doesn't seem to have the right PH either :0(
Mrs Ginger Beauty is the ph level important in a vitamin c serum? Which ph level should I look out for?
I opened ascorbic acid jar ...now should i keep it in fridge or cupbord??
Also please must haves from oridinary for a fresh glowing skin( i have dry sensitive skin)??
I would just keep it away from direct sunlight
I forgot to mention that I personally wouldn’t mix it with aplha arbutin. I used the ordinary one once and it was quite stronger. I found it stronger than their daily glycol toner and their 30% Aha mask.
Sharon Brady are you maybe thinking of The Ordinary’s Alpha Lipoic Acid? The Arbutin is like putting on water.
Yes you’re completely right. I just checked. Lol Thanks for that!
Sharon Brady there are so many products it’s hard to keep up, right?! I couldn’t agree more. Best wishes.
You just can mix it with Propylenglycol.
what about ascorbbyl palmitate ? its fat soluable. it can penetrate skin.
Brendan Parker thank you I’ll look into it
Mandelic acid?
I interchange every other day between the alpha arbutin +HA and alpha lipoic acid and it's awesome!
I hate that the ordinary doesn’t give enough information on their products... thank you 🙏🏾
It can be mixed with oil but its unlikely the Vitamin C will penetrate that way. x
Mrs Ginger Beauty thank you so much for responding !!! I emailed them earlier this afternoon they told me that I could when I specifically asked about the potency of vit c when mixed with an oil🤦🏾♀️ thank you for responding 🙂
Hi, is it working for you with oil?
Renuca Veloso hi ! No It doesn’t disolve in the oil, but I love mixing it with a light cream 🙂
@@pearlsglimmers thank you for responding, much appreciate.
If you don't like the spoon that comes with the product you can just buy smaller measuring spoons very cheaply. I got 0,1 ml, 0,2 ml, 0,5 ml, 1,0 ml and 2,0 ml spoons for a couple bucks total.
Where from, please? Ebay? Deciem? ???
Thank you, Karen!!! Great job!!!
Philosophy used to have a vitamin X powder, I still have some left. Maybe I'll throw some in my
differin or moisturizer or an oil or my silicone primer. Idk lol.
Do you think you can mix with the rose hip oil??
Monique Morrison no, ascorbic acid is water soluble which means it needs to dissolve in water. You can purchase an ascorbic acid serum that has vitamin e oil, for example, but the the primary ingredient is water. If you put the Ascorbic Acid in oil, it will not dissolve.
In the video, Karen said yes.
Monique Morrison also, make sure your hands are dry touching the spoon. Any moisture left in the jar will cause the ascorbic acid powder to spoil.
Your information is brilliant,thankyou 👍😘
hii, how long did the order process take?
I can see you have great potential to be a good comedian. :D
Your amazing ty . I just ordered the vitamin c and hyrloronic acid but now I’m sorry I did lol seems to complicated
I'm used it with my moisturizer and it tanned my skin alot.. i dnt know why does it oxidizes on the skin.. then i started mixing it water and applied to skin directly.. then topped it with a layer of tea tree oil just to create a barrier between the vitamin c and oxygen to help prevent it from oxidation.. but again it didnt really work for me.. i dnt know how will it work for me.. also i'm from pakistan and ordering reservatrol and ferulic acid will take 1 month or more to deliver.. dnt know what to do with it.. plz guide me
You can mix it with the resveritol and ferulic acid and you can mix it with alpha albutrin. Or just use it at night.
vitamin c reacts in sunlight, so you have to make sure than any time you mix it, you only mix it in small amounts and what amount you do mix, you store in the fridge and use it within a week.
