      @ibrahimmoncada2710 They have sent over very limited numbers of these rounds, The October defence package included only 500 rounds of these. My guess is that the US is both interested in helping Ukraine and seeing real world data on performance in an artillery war.

      But do you know what your government is doing? The world is against you for what you are doing. And it will be useless to have the support of decotta Europe, by now the BRICS have more money and more weapons, resign yourself to the idea that you can no longer be international bullies, and let the world live in peace, accursed warmongers. It is advice, because you risk finding the world in alliance against you and you have no possibility of imposing yourself, either militarily, as you have always done, or economically. Reflect and cleanse yourself from the inside out, or the world will.

      Leonardo Oto Melara's Italian 'Vulcano' system has existed for 11 years and reaches 120 km without using rockets or ramjets. It can be used in any 155 howitzer and is laser-guided and gps-guided. The Ukrainians have been using it on the m109s for more than a year with excellent results, but because it is not American or British it does not make the headlines. It costs a fraction of the Excalibur munition

      Yes they started putting simple electric circuits in american AAA ammo in WWII to create a proximity fuse for the navy, and when it was no secret anymore american army also got the fuse for its artillery, made the shell explode in the air when sensing ground spreading shrapnel instead of digging a hole in the ground.
      So the military have been doing this for many decades. Modern electronics is also light so as long as it rests on somthing sturdy with no give I guess it is easier to put electronics in these days. But first someone have to come up with the idea.

      My picture is modern artillery is very precise and do not need these shells but these various new coming rounds can extend the range and some of them rocket boosted increasing the range even furter and we end up with ranges where arty would have accuracy problems if the shell could not steer is my view. As cool as this is, in a real war can they setup, shoot and move before the enemy can return fire with a missile or similar? Or are the enemies not capable of returning accurate fire that quickly at these ranges? I bet there were some challenges designing the circuitry and mechanics for the control surfaces that were durable enough to survive the launch.

    • @UzumakiNaruto_
      @UzumakiNaruto_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess this depends on how advanced and well trained the army you're fighting is. If they're well trained and technologically advanced then its possible to respond in a relatively short time with good counter battery fire. If not then you can probably get away safe before the enemy has time to respond. That's why most nations are switching to mobile artillery platforms if they can afford it.
      So far in Ukraine it doesn't seem like the Russians are very good with counter battery fire, however loitering drones have been pretty effective in damaging and destroying Ukrainian artillery and other vehicles. Just send up a drone and wait until you spot a target and send that drone to attack it. Much easier for them than to try and call in a artillery counter battery strike.

    • @gromxxx

      Is Ukraine war not a real war? Because this is the largest conventional war since Korea probably. You have to consider that the shooting an Excalibur is rarely on short notice. The recon finds the target, the crew moves to its position fires the round and redeploys before the enemy can triangulate their position and effectively engage the target. Even if they engage the shell has left the barrel and cannot be stopped.

      Furthermore, it's not accurate to say that the soldiers using the technology are just a small part of the puzzle. They play a crucial role in the success of the system and must be highly trained to operate it effectively.
