  • OK Guys, it's time to talk about a very sensitive subject in Leafs nation right now.. The current status of Auston Matthews. Will he play tonight? Nobody seems to know, but after watching years of hockey, and seeing players battle through some pretty significant injuries to bring their teams to victory.. This is pretty embarrassing in my opinion..

I've had migraines. Noise and lights are debilitating. He could have tried to play but he would have been less than useless and a detriment to the team. As for Matthews, the doctors pulled him for a reason. You're not gonna drop dead from a broken arm but you can literally die from dehydration and from watching combat sports you're WAY more susceptible to concussions. A hockey player can lose up to 10 pounds, mostly in water weight, in one game and if he's already dehydrated he could literally have a stroke. I think the doctors are doing the right thing protecting his future on and off the ice.
And to anyone who wants to "YoU cAn DiE frOm a Broekn aRm!" yes you can but no player would be aloud to play if there was a serious risk, and the doctors pulled Matthews so there must be a serious risk

Not even puking and shitting much. But I had zero energy or life in me.
So, if it was the same thing, I don't blame em.
I slept for 20+ hours the first day and didn't move much for the following week.

By the way... Playing with a broken bone is tough, but you can brace it and go at 90% capacity. If you're really sick like I was, your entire body is fucked. So you could be going at only 7% capacity. Do you really want that on the ice?

Like, for God's sake, last year I played in my beer league playoffs with a broken rib and could barely fucking move, and I was in pain the entire game, but I could not even remotely compare that to having your life sucked out of you with something as bad as I just had.

i heard Matthews was food poisoning. Thats certainly a good excuse to not play, but the timing is...odd. Also you'd expect others on the team to have food poisoning if thats the case, too. I would also imagine their diets during the playoffs are monitored closely as to avoid that exact thing soooooooooooooo WHO KNOWS

If the Leafs don't come out tonight throwing bodies and stacking hits mid-ice, then I don't know what to do with them. There was a glimpse of what they should have done when Benoit and Reaves starting leveling the Bruins the last game for one shift. Boston was shaken for a few minutes and couldn't get anything going. When a team is being aggressive on the forecheck, then you have to start throwing body checks to keep them honest. Here is that sequence from SportsNet highlights: th-cam.com/video/c1EIGVUfkAA/w-d-xo.html

Not only are the Bruins goaltenders and defense much better than Toronto but it's how their forwards get back to help their D. That is the main difference so far in this series. Toronto depends on their offense while the Bruins depend on their team defense. Defense first may not be as exciting as a bunch of scoring chances, but it works. 1.75 Goals against in this series should tell you something.

I don't hate the Maple Leafs team itself, but it's fans are the most annoying in the league. You all act smug and cocky when your team has regular season success, but then they tank on the playoffs. Try being humble and maybe you won't get trolled so hard when the Leafs once again crash out of the playoffs early. Leafs fans, smug and arrogant since 1967.

I think you're wrong. Simply don't see it. Other Canadian fans love to hate, have small market syndrome, I guess. It's fun to win, it sucks to underperform. Like dude, you're telling me you think leafs fans were smug and cocky through the Harold Ballard era? How about 2006 - 2016 with one playoff round, lost in inglorious fashion?
Revelling in someone else's misfortune is not a great character trait.
