Hard to believe it's been that long already. I remember listening to recovery when I was 19/20. Used to be our little groups party album. Been a decade since then. Mind blowing. Glad hes clean and sober though. Would've lost another legendary musician to drugs.

Those first lines he said 'I'm not really supposed to be here right now' is a double entendre. When he overdosed he almost died, I believe the doctors told him he was 2 hours from being dead. The other meaning is from the order of the album, the previous song on Recovery is Space Bound and at the end of that song he shoots himself in the head. Crazy ass intro line 🔥

Aes is from Brooklyn I think, and since listening to him I've picked up the Brooklyn soft "O" sound because I sing along a lot. Since u asked for info, Cinderella man was a movie based on the boxer James Braddock who overcame his struggles and they called him Cinderella man... And the second chance, he's referring to when he overdosed after proof died and he almost died himself... This came out after that... The album was supposed to be relapse 2, but it changed to recovery
Listen to all that he is saying, reference's to perimids, he is actually referenceing Lucifer, at this time em was rebelling from the powers that be, that's one of the reasons we didn't see him out for several years, he really wasn't ready and didn't want to be involved with what he inevitably had to roll with or either meet his untimely death. Every single line on this song, he thought out 100%... It's some of the most beautiful and philosophical lines coming from someone that faced desperation and adversity head on. It's amazing what kind of art humans can create when circumstance is not in your favor.. What is especially amazing about this song is that he takes ideas of reality that could be beyond our understanding (Flipped the world upside down, and made it rain upwards) and makes you think about bigger things in life instead of the petty every day human existence we all pedal our ways through each day.

Cinderella man was also the nickname of a boxer in the 1930’s. James j Braddock. He lost some bouts due to hand injuries and ‘retired’. He then had to work on the docks and get public assistance to feed his family during the Great Depression. He made a comeback in 1935 and fought Max Bauer for the Heavyweight title and won. A classic comeback story. I believe they made a movie based on his story.
My grandfather was a boxing enthusiast from that time and told me this story a million times.
He not blowing his second chance at life after overdosing and almost dying. I overdosed September 2013 was given a 15% chance of living I was on life support and god let me out for another chance. Eminem speaks to me. He saved my life. His music is like my personal journal. Long live the G.O.A.T
