This is a small masterpiece by Patti Smith, but the cut at the end is brutal- who on earth has edited this?! I nearly had a heartattack!

I agree about the editing. What a let down. Would love to have heard the whole thing.

Virginia Woolf has a novel called 'The Waves' and it's because of this, I'm guessing, that prompts her to call the evening 'Wave'. :)
This is so beautiful. I've always loved Virginia's work, but hearing it like this to music makes it... well, perfect.

I love Virginia Woolf, an all around literary all-star. I look no further for literature which encapsulates life-- inner and exterior life as can be depicted and translated into words and sounds and pauses. None better than Virginia, to my mind, in the ouvre of a brilliant transcendent woman. Different, but none better. Patti Smith knows this and does a good job of gratifying us with a new take on our elder stateswoman. Loved this!

    What an incredible woman !
All thru her life She's always shown this incredible generosity of spirit.
Have read Orlando but I've never known anyone quite like Patti Smith.

Virginia...The time is coming. ♥︎
Something eternal, something in her, in her long dress, perfect colors, small, beautifull, Virginia.

Does anyone know what chapter, or page number that Patti Smith reads aloud from The Waves??

Six years late, but better late than never. An excerpt in the middle of this performance is from the first chapter of The Waves and the rest is improvised.
