  • Join us as we delve into the inspiring and raw journey of Arsenio Trinidad, a combat veteran whose life story traverses from the streets of Long Beach to the battlegrounds of the War in Afghanistan. In this heartfelt and eye-opening interview, Arsenio shares his transformation from a troubled youth in East LA to a dedicated soldier in the US Army, providing a unique perspective on the realities of war and the challenges faced by those who serve.
From his early days grappling with street life and finding a sense of belonging in a diverse community, to his unwavering aspiration to join the military, Arsenio's story is one of resilience and determination. Witness his experiences in boot camp, where the rigors of training prepared him for the harsh realities of military life, and follow his journey into the war in Afghanistan, where he faced not only the enemy but the harsh terrains and complexities of war.
Arsenio opens up about the intense combat situations he encountered, highlighting the physical and mental toll of being a frontline soldier. His vivid recounting of firefights, the challenges of navigating foreign landscapes, and the brotherhood formed in the face of adversity offer a gripping insight into the life of a combat veteran.
But the battle doesn't end on the frontlines. Arsenio candidly discusses his return to civilian life, grappling with PTSD, and the struggle to readjust to a world far removed from the battlegrounds. His journey through depression and the search for a new purpose post-military life is a testament to the challenges faced by many veterans, especially those injured in war.
This video is not just a tale of a soldier in the War in Afghanistan. It's a story of human resilience, the impact of upbringing, the realities of PTSD, and the ongoing battles many veterans face upon returning home. Arsenio's message is clear: seeking help and finding a new path is not just possible but necessary for veterans adapting to life after service.

I really feel his words on transitioning out. Wanted to do 20, but got out for medical issues. First 2 years were rough. Homeless for the first month, unemployed for the first six months, and severely depressed and suicidal for the entirety of those first 2 years. That loss of identity hit hard. But that was 2011-2013. Been on the up and up since. Not a millionaire, but I'm surviving.

Glad to hear you're doin good brother. I know how all of you may have felt and or still feeling some sort of way. I still see a psychiatrist and that started in 2006 after my first deployment to Afghanistan. Was in many firefights with the taliban. Seen a few of my guys get hit with IEDs. I was in a vehicle that got hit with an IED. It was a rough ride after that deployment but I stood in the Army. I loved the Army. I was some of the best units and I served with some of the best soldiers. I'm no longer in the Army I did only 18.5 yrs. My body couldn't take it anymore was medically discharged. I know exactly what this guy is talking about😅😅😂😂 when it comes down to basic and then getting to your first unit. And then end up being deployed. I been to Afghanistan and Iraq....seen a lot of crazy shit and did a lot of crazy shit. Like they say the military can transition you into the military but the military can't transition you out the military. I felt worthless when I got out. Depressed all the damn time and almost committed suicide. Then PTSD kicks in and then you begin to overthink about shit and for me my life was goin to shit. I overcame all that and I'm good now. The VA in El Paso, TX takes good care of me. And life is good again.
Be strong brother take care of yourself and don't look down, keep your head up and you will be ok.

The Marine Corps shoots themselves in the foot consistently when it comes to recruitment and retention. I also was told I would not be able to do the one job I wanted to do, which was to be an infantryman. The recruiter told me it was either crash fire rescue (firefighter) or the door. I walked. Heartbroken too, because being a Marine and an infantryman was the only thing I wanted to do. That was October of 2009. I walked back into that same office in 2013, talked to a different recruiter, and he treated me with respect and I enlisted with an 03xx infantry contract in the DEP. (shout out to MSGT Lariosa) Sometimes I regret not pushing harder back in 2009 for the infantry contract. I’d be 5 years away from retirement instead of 10.

@@genluardDude!!!!! Yes tell that recruiter you want 0311 Basic Infantryman or 0331 Infantry Machine Gunner.
Do you want to go beyond basic Infantry and do special forces kind of stuff?
0621Field Radio Operator could work too because it is a combat skill beeded in special forces. Either of those will let you continue on to Jump school, assualt boat school, demo and entry class, etc. I mean it will still be up to your command if they will sign off on you going to specialty training or not. You can sometimes preempt that a bit. Near the end of Advanced Combat Training start asking about MARSOC testing, Jump School, Language School and stuff like four weeks before you finish and get your fleet unit assignment. That way you have no command to say no, now go paint those rocks! When I went through Recon came looking for 0311 and 0331 to come that Saturday and those that passed the obstacle course, could reassemble the M16 eyes closed, they had a table with a bunch of stuff on it covered by a sheet (They took the sheets off for 5seconds. You go test then at the end of the day had you write down everything you could remember on the table. It was a test of observation and memory that is important for reconnaissance missions. Force Recon doesn't exist anymore. It has morphed into Marine Raders aka MARSOC if your interested in that. Remember that of you are anything Infantry other than 0311 or 0331 you can kiss schools to become 0316 Combat Rubber Reconnaissance Craft, 0323 Parachute Qualified Reconnaissance Man, 0326 Parachute, and Combatant Diver Qualified, Reconnaissance Man, 0351 Combat Assualt man, Marine Special Operatioms Command Critical Skills Operator (to get this MOS you will go to about 26 if the most bad ass classes and schools ever to be way more combat trained than any Ranger, SEAL,SAS, SAB or other special forces trooper with only a Green Baret being on par with you.)
They DO NOT let a morterman go to those schools.Tell him you are NOT going to be a Fire Fighter, Military Police, Special Guard Service or any other BS like that!!!!
Also DO NOT go open contract Infantry. If your contract is 0300 open Infantry. You could end up Military Police arresting Marines, Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with never ending inspections, standing in the cold, rain, 120degree days or you could get Basic Morterman lugging that heavy shit killing your hearing and possibly blowing your hand off.

They tried making me change my contract cause they knew I was poor. They gave me a boot camp date a year out (8-10-2014) I saw people come and go from the dep program with the infantry contract I wanted , I had it but my date to leave was way later than I wanted. The recruiter kept saying it’s taking a while to leave because I wanted to be in the infantry ( lie) I left at my date with an infantry contract but they could’ve shipped me sooner . Some guys were there training with me after I had been there for a while and left before me with infantry I was so pissed and still am that my recruiter tried to play me like that knowing it was my childhood dream to follow in my uncle’s footsteps ( 1 first force recon 1 mortar man ‘me’ ) and tried putting me as anything but infantry and dangling my departure date in front of my face.
