  • Once entangled in the dangerous gang life, Josue found a new path in the Marines. His journey through the rigors of boot camp, his struggle to adjust to military discipline, and his ultimate deployment to Afghanistan form the core of this powerful narrative.
Experience the raw realities of the War in Afghanistan through Josue's eyes. From intense firefights to the camaraderie among brothers, his account offers a vivid glimpse into the life of a Marine serving overseas. However, this journey took a life-altering turn when Josue was gravely injured in war, leading to him becoming a veteran amputee.
The aftermath of Josue's injury reveals the harsh challenges faced by combat veterans. His story is a testament to the indomitable human spirit as he navigates the complexities of PTSD, the physical and emotional pain of his injuries, and the journey toward healing and adaptation.
Discover how Josue overcame these trials, finding solace and purpose in sports. His involvement in wheelchair basketball and hand cycling helped him cope with his experiences and provided a new direction in his post-military life.
This military interview is a must-watch for anyone interested in military stories, the impact of the War in Afghanistan, and the inspiring tales of veteran amputees overcoming adversity. Josue's story is one of hope, determination, and the relentless pursuit of a second chance at life.

When I was in the Army 82nd Airborne Division I had a buddy he was from LA and a gang member, he told me that a lot of his homies had been killed and he said the reason why he joined the Army was to get out of that lifestyle before it was him that was going to prison or the graveyard.

I was with 2/7 in 2008. I was in nowzad though, not sangin. The company we had in sangin saw some serious fighting as well. S/F!

I served with a guy from Mission District Oakland and was a gang member who got shot 3 times. He was cool overseas, but when we ran into each other in Camp Pendleton, he didn't want to be seen with non-hispanic people, so I never talked to him again. I guess he still held on to gang mentality.

I'm still watching here up north. From what I gather he's still Semper Fi. Don't need eyes or legs for that. Just a heart. I'll pray Semper Fidelis goes between you and your wife too. I had a lady like that up till about 2 years ago. I was very lucky for 15 years and now she's gone. We were different. When I met her she was 25 and I 46. I never dreamed I'd end up in a relationship with her. I was old and I ain't much. She was a young tall skinny blond who morphed into my common law wife. My best friend. Lover always faithful and not only that, pretty much a Comrade too. When I met her she never said things like, we're late. We got to ruck up and jump off right fucking now. Why didn't you wake up you fucking retard! Said with a big smile. Retard was her goto insult for me. I swear, I believe this lady would of dove on a grenade to save me. We were together almost always. 24-7. Usually holding hands. They few times we argued for real I still couldn't leave the house without kissing her. I knew when she was pissed because she'd use my real name Robert instead of my handle or Nick name my parents gave me as a baby, Tys. No lie, first day of school I'm sure they thought I was a retard because I didn't even know my name was Robert. Hence, she'd call me that as a joke. I miss her so much it hurts. I was 61 before I learned life's hardest lesson. If 2 people really truely love each other it can only end one way. One has to die. That's just a fact. Suppose both could die at the same time. Enough said about this piece of shit. It's about this outstanding Marine. Thank you for your service and do what it takes to Semper Fi your wife till you're both very old, but till loving each other. I don't have the right words to express enough respect for this Marine who walked the walk that almost took him from his wife.

Every situation and base is different. But just from stories I've heard it seems they haze those who are okay with it. And they like to push and push to see how much shit you are willing to deal with till they push you over that edge and you stand up to them. And when you stand up to them at first they will not seem to react or if anything go harder but once you show you will stand up to them and aren't afraid you gain their trust. Even if they don't admit or show it. But again every station is different.

I tried to join the marines or the army in 2009 I took a test in the army recruitment station and the recruiter said he could of recruited me right there n then but they had passed a law that u needed a high school diploma or ged and I had just dropped out of high school .. but I was tipping into gangs n a lot of homies were dying I just had a baby boy and had no job I needed that real bad I need the army or the marines … I needed it to get out of the life and help me become something in life unfortunately like I said they couldn’t recruit me because I didn’t have a diploma and 6 months later now deep af in the gang lifestyle I ended up catching a attempted murder 187 case and being convicted of 187 att murder . Sentenced to 12 years in prison at the age of 18 I lost my wife lost my newborn child . My girl left me I ended up picking up a drug habit in there now full blown heroin addict with no job 😢 no future I’m 33 years old I got out prison 3 years ago but my addiction is unbearable my life’s in shambles I cant stop to think of what my life would of been if only I would of been accepted in the arm forces 😢…life is fuckn crazy!!
Nevertheless josue thank you for your service 🫡 god bless you for the blood u shed for this wonderful country of ours I’m glad you got blessed and got out the LA gang life I just told u my life it didn’t work for me but many blessings to u n your loved ones!
