I just have to say that this was just a poor choice by the teacher/director/whoever decided to do a show based on the issue of race with a mostly white cast. Don't get me wrong I'm not trashing the cast... this was just the WRONG show.
And the question each of us have to ask ourselves is, "Do we want to perpetuate hate by hating or reach out to others and help each other work to be a more multiculturally accepting society.
This is obviously not the reboot. Andrea is WAY to patronizing, in the reboot the "Daniel, if you care, if you care at all you must tell her-" is not if you care about me, its if you care about her. I don't think that she wanted the marriage any more than Daniel did.
민??욘기 Ti Moune’s dance is supposed to emulate the culture of the village people and honestly, in this production, it just failed at that. the girl is an amazing dancer, its just that the choreo looks more like ballet than traditional carribean dance
@@juul27 The whole show is about culture. The ball was supposed to be a point of the show in which Ti Moune was treated lower than everybody because of her colour. Ti Moune is just one of those characters that NEEDS to be coloured.
Allie Hill this whole show focuses on race, the whole premise is the peasants are looked down upon because they are darker. if u make the cast, including the lead peasant girl, white, it ruins this premise.
Since this play looks like it might have been performed in a predominantly white school it is probably a good idea to do it. If done right, the teacher can bring in another culture's point of view making his/her students aware and more accepting of others. I would hate to see people mock someone's effort to educate students of these valuable themes just because of skin color, remember, racism does go both ways.
Ashley Pirir For this show it definitely does. There are lines & lyrics in the show relating to race and racism is a main theme of this show. If the director knew the school was predominantly white I don’t think this was a good choice of a show.
i'm doing this show at my theatre group, but i have no idea who to audition for! help? i'm a girl who sings baritone - we haven't had much detail as to music and vocal range yet.... if you've done this show what would you suggest? xx
An all white cast can perform this piece, but the teacher/director needs and should make the students aware of the truths the story is trying to tell. As long as the students stay true to the message there is much to be appreciated by performing it regardless of color.
I gotta say I disagree. If there weren’t direct lines (“The peasants, black as night”) in the show relating to race, and if one of the main themes wasnt racism id say its ok. but since that is not the case, I don’t think this casting was really doing the show justice. I understand they might not have had many p.o.c audition, but i just don’t think this was the right show for this cast.
I know you commented this like years ago but still, I just wanted to say that andrea in this lowkey looked like an off-brand belle costume that you could find at Walmart. 😔😔😔
It was written originally to point out the racial issues, but the other issue at hand is that everyone is effected by racism across all nations, regions, religions, social classes etc. It's a message about discrimination and that love will find a way to rise above hate.
there is a jr. version that allows a group to not HAVE to do it with the whole racial thing. though yes, it should be done that way. they just make a peasant vs. rich scenario instead. if the one song is in it that explains about the race issue, then yeah they should do it with black members in the cast. but if the song isnt in the show, then it doesnt matter.
I respectfully disagree with you this show was made for poor colored people and rich french people ..This show is supposed to tell you how even though colored people are from the same blood line as french there color is what made them different there's literally a whole song about how they despise them because it reminds them of where they came from..This show was made for colored people .
In the theatre community, this play is affectionately referred to as 'Whites on this Island'.
Seriously. I'm not even kidding.
😮
It's honestly sad when I barely see one black person when schools and community theaters do this production 😔😔 It takes away from the whole meaning
I realize I'm kind of randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to watch newly released tv shows online ?
where r the black people?
Frr
I just have to say that this was just a poor choice by the teacher/director/whoever decided to do a show based on the issue of race with a mostly white cast.

Ti Moune is such an amazing dancer and Andrea's voice and acting blew me away!!!!
I love this performance the dancing, singing, and acting are all wonderful. I can't wait to perform this show at my school
K first
This was horrible
Second
They need to get some more of their culture in this
This was the ball, y'know, something that shouldn't include too much culture?
I personally think its beautiful

WandaLynn CB does race even matter. I don't want to offend anyone I just want to ask
@@ashleypirir4366 in the original Version of this show it did

Just auditioned for this show and hoping so much for Ti Moune!!
Daniel doesn’t act like that he loves ti mourn he said ti moune I thought you understood in a calm but concern voice
i'm doing this show at my theatre group, but i have no idea who to audition for! help? i'm a girl who sings baritone - we haven't had much detail as to music and vocal range yet.... if you've done this show what would you suggest? xx

Trying out for Ti Moune! This helped for dance ideas.

This is prolly the worst one I’ve ever seen
where's the...... flavorm
Wtf
I can see that they have like at least two black girls on cast...and they STILL cast Ti Moune as a white girl. No offense, just makes me want to vom.
I’m I the only one who sees the dancing as problematic
