Lucas Neill cost us a spot in the quarter finals. It was the last minute of injury time against 10 men, we had our bench of substitutes ready for extra time, there was no need to perform a dodgy slide tackle in the penalty box. It's a school boy error and we paid the price.

Yeah, it still hurts, but Neil knew full well what he was doing by sliding in way too early. Even in the sequence leading up to the penalty, Bresciano should have just fouled Grosso for a last minute free kick, or slide in before Grosso got away from him.
The refereeing at that tournament was pretty dodgy for Australia, but in any case, we had some questionable decisions go our way as well.
Nevertheless, it's something we'll never get over, especially considering that we could have played Ukraine in the next game which would have had us in with a fantastic oppurtunity to get to a historic semi-final. Who knows, we could have even got to the final itself, but we just have to look forward to going for it again next year in Qatar.

I was an outcast for years because I knew it wasn't a bullshit call from the ref. Lucas Neil clearly put his arm up, therefore, tripping Grosso (was it?). The notion of "we were cheated" is nothing but a poor, unauthentic reason, more like an excuse, for being knocked out of the World Cup.
We are here now, in 2014, in Brazil, we have shown, even though we lost 3-1, that we can play good football. Because that game again Chile on a Tuesday, was great football for majority of the 90 minutes. We can beat Netherlands, when we play them in less than 2 hours, and we can beat Spain when we play them in a few weeks. You can never rule out Australia. We are the boys of Green and Gold. We have potential.
    Go Socceroos!

I was there in Kaiserslautern in 06 and it was resounding from other nationalities at the time that we were robbed. But on review you see that Italians are predisposed to diving, and Lucas was responsible, sad but true. Still a good man, no individual is the end result in a team sport.

This is the way italy get their points.
they did it again this world cup against New Zealand. they were loosing to a team some 70 odd spots below them and oh take a dive and there we go point won.
they should be ashamed they are "world champions" and almost lost to New Zealand. not to take anything away from the Kiwi's they played brilliantly. oh and yeah how much do the italian's get paid professionally as players?? two of the Kiwi's are amateurs and have day jobs!
