According to my analysis after having collected data as well as considered periodical events over the years, I tend to differ with Alick’s age. Officially, he is 55 and just recently celebrated the birthday. However, looking in hindsight he was born at a farming/mine settlement. According to various sources from the media, he was raised by his mother after his father had abandoned them. In a recent interview with the H-Metro on the sidelines of Alick’s birthday bash in Chitungwiza, his mother stated that she got married to Hudson Chisale of Malawian descent at Shamva district birth registry offices. Meaning to say they had a marriage certificate. However, for a reason only known to herself, the boy was given her maiden surname (Macheso) instead of Chisale his real father’s surname. There is no clarity there, why she overthrew the government issued document (a marriage certificate) that was a sure source or evidence to provide an undisputed Surname to Alick. Surely, the registrar general’s office wouldn’t have refused to endorse a name that was also on another document from the same office. Also, looking at the prevailing situation that it was a farming community and there was war raging on. I suggest no birth certificate was obtained for Alick before Independence. Just like most of the folks in various parts of the country, he could have obtained one after Independence. Again it happened to a lot of people that unrealistic birthdays were endorsed by officials at the registry offices. Not forgetting that his mother could be illiterate such that she failed to recall the exact year that she gave birth to the successful crooner. Maybe he was born 3-4 years earlier than 1968. Why I am analysing that is because Simbarashe said his mother told him that he was born in 1984. If we go by Alick’s official age then he was only 16. Could it be genuine to attest that a boy of 16 could have impregnated a girl? How old was she? Was she not in school? Why was she following music bands then? Or she was much older than Macheso! Another issue to look at is at what age did Alick enter the music business. During one of the interviews that Nicholas Zakaria did, he mentioned that he started working with Alick when he was only 15 years old, suggesting that such a young boy who was still not a teenager would have been going into bars playing guitars 🎸 commercially. I remember during those years, elders were very strict with kids’ behaviour and morality. Who approved that such a kid would be accepted in such places and not attending school. Yes his mother had no means to find school fees but still no 15 year old child was to be allowed to becoming a member of a band. Later on, Alick had a shaky relationship with Tafadzwa Mapako who he mischievously exalted with a hit song ( Tafadzwa). Two baby boys were born out of that relationship. Surprisingly, Alick frantically tried disowning the kids when his relationship with Tafadzwa became bitter and divorce was imminent. As a result, DNA verification was conducted and it was certified the kids were of Mr Macheso/Chisale. With that in mind, as a critique, I think Alick is now refusing even to take Simbarashe for DNA tests to avoid further damaging his reputation as a national and international hero. People may regard him as a loose cannon of higher proportions when it comes to love life. Or he is afraid of Nyadzisai ( mai Sharo) who might not forgive him for the second time. I suggest, his wife could be a very good intermediary for settling the matter. The problems with fans is the undying love of a celebrity. Fans will choose to die whilst defending their icon even if they are on the wrong side of law. In fact, celebrities do have a tendency of dividing opinion among their followers by the way they behave.
