Robin Horsfall - Putin Won't Stop Attacking Ukraine and Testing Europe Until he's Stopped by Force.

  • GUEST: Robin Horsfall, soldier, writer, campaigner and keynote speaker.
    ----------
The war in Ukraine continues despite a lack of media interest. Russian forces have made repeated assaults along the Donbas front and attempted an offensive towards Kharkiv. Perhaps Putin wanted some kind of victory, no matter how insignificant, before the Victory Parade in Moscow on May 9th. But it has cost Russia dearly, with the loss of more than 15,000 soldiers killed or wounded and he has nothing to show except a few pock- marked fields and piles of rubble that used to be villages. What is the point of Putin’s war, and when will the Western allies finally show him it is fruitless to continue?
    ----------
    SPEAKER:
Robin Horsfall joined the British Army at the age of fifteen in 1972. He served with the Parachute Regiment and 22 Special Air Service. He left the British Army in 1984 and worked as a mercenary, bodyguard and as a medical officer is many active zones around the world. He then built London Karate for twenty years, teaching thousands the art and discipline of karate. He retired and went to Surrey University aged 56 and graduated in English Literature and Creative Writing three years later. He is the author of several books including his hugely successful autobiography Fighting Scared - which I highly recommend you read.

German TV just reported about it as well.80 kilometres is the max distance german supplied weapons can do.
Even if allowed targets in Russia they would not achieved much
Almost all airports around Belgorod are out of reach
And also something else was mentioned about Russian manpower. If they have the same number of casualties like now they would run out of soldiers by 2046

This sociopath seems to have devoted his entire life to violence, and been a mercenary, oh right great guest lol. The Balkans still aren't settled. The parties involved are just rearming and waiting for an opportunity to have another go at it.
History is filled with empires and peoples who have disappeared. What ends a conflict is one side winning conclusively.
We don't know any Carthaginians or Parthians today. They were absorbed into other populations.
The slaughter in Yugoslavia was stopped 30 some years ago but it will return. The borders are not realistic, populations on all sides need to move in order for there to be a more lasting peace.

Very captivating and extremely well said. Thanks Robin. Like Britain Canada also has hollowed out armed forces, What if we created an expanded army which was purposely created to not just fight and defend, but was also to be trained to be emergency forces trained and ready to step in to help respond to Natural Disasters within our countries. These will assuredly be needed rather often, but with more thought a countries armed forces could and should be integrated into being embedded within society rather than remaining to be too far separate from civilian life. This approach could be a better sell to politicians and civilians/voters. Thanks

Biden has the victory he wanted so far. He did "increase the costs to Russia, in both blood and treasure." Even if "albeit at the expense of the Ukrainian people." The proxy war plan put out in 2019 had nothing to do with a win for Ukraine, as that wasn't the goal of the "great game" of "geopolitical competition."

I guess what worries me the most is that China coordinates with Russia and decides to invade Taiwan and the US decides to fight there, and not for Ukraine - and my assumption is that there would be a coordinated push by Russia as the same time and the US would not be able to meet both threats militarily. the only hope for Ukraine then is that the rest of NATO comes in a way they haven't indicated they're ready to embark upon...

@@geoffgill5334 Mr. Horsfall doesn't seem to think China will do it, just a lot of gesturing. Well, they did a pretty good simulation of a blockade this past week and, oh yes, a lot of analysts didn't think 100,000-200,000 Russian troops on the Ukraine borders from late 2021 into 2022 were going to plunge across. We may never know what signals were being sent by the White House prior to Feb. 24, 2022. The same signals Biden sent to Joe Manchin ...and Bibi Netanyahu?

Donating arms to Ukraine, then telling them what they can’t do with them is not wrong. All gifts come with strings attached. But it’s a form of colonialism a step down from what Russia wants to do with Ukraine. But hold on, you say. I just said there’s nothing wrong with having strings attached when we donate arms. And that’s a mild form of colonialism? Isn’t that a double standard? It certainly is. The way forward is Ukraine to continue to receive donations and advice but add to that manufacturing their own arms. Ukraine’s strength is innovation. That involves independent thinking. And independent thinking is a sign of being independent. That’s at the heart of democracy.
Modifying the arms they receive and modifying how arms are used goes together with making their own arms. That innovation extends to how Ukraine’s economy is run, how it builds alliances and trade relations, culture. It also extends to how Ukraine works for peace and how it ends this war. That makes this country a more valuable participant in the EU and NATO.
Ukraine will make mistakes. That’s part of growth. Overall, I’m counting on Ukraine coming out far ahead of where they were before 2014.

If you look at the current IAEA negations with Rosatom in Kaliningrad. The Russian delegation includes the Ministry of Defence and the Army, just to make sure this is complete on script. Energoatom (the legitimate licensee) had their engineers barred from the ZNPP while the Kharkiv offensive was on and all we’ve seen from that discussion is a load of carp about “unrelenting Ukrainian aggression”. I think this gives a good indication of the honesty in the Russian position on the war in general and where they can stick their ‘negotiations’ in particular.

I have followed Robin on LinkedIn for some time. His contribution is much enjoyed and valued. I’m old enough to have watched, absolutely enthralled, the Iranian Embassy siege and the awesome SAS, including Robin, ending the siege. My father served 30 years in the British army, my brother 10, and it’s thanks to men like Robin, and them, that we are respected around the world. It’s tragic, and criminal, to have seen the lack of investment in our armed services. It’s time for our government, of whatever politics, to wake up to the fact that we need a strong military, and that that costs money.

Junior Service - excellent programme! In my old secondary (single sex) school, we had a CCF. OK, not everyone is a natural warrior but the basic training - no matter how little - goes in and stays there. It creates a pool of young people who may - in the future - form a core professional reserve. Trainers, fighters, engineers, logicians, even diplomats! It also gives people a goal to achieve and WIN! I'd be all for it.

You should interview finnish military experts about finnish conscription on its costs, benefits and affect on society. And also ask how did they feel joining arms and how they view their own conscription now. For me it was almost 20 years a go and i see it as a one of the best years of my life
