The younger teachers were the ones who inspired me to become a teacher! Even though they marked a bit harder (at least in my experience), it didn't stop me from feeling happy and inspired in the classrooms! They were just easier to relate and were very involved with students and the clubs. Btw, love love love your videos! Your enthusiasm really translates through the screen :!

I’m an English teacher and I’m mexican, I live in an island full of tourism and people from the states. I am a teacher from a private bilingual school and I started working when I was 21 years old. I’m 23 now. But it was difficult for my students to see me as a teacher and not as a teen!

Yes yes yes! Being a preservice teacher, my younger sister of course HAD to show me your channel and I am so glad she did! I am in my student teaching year (6th grade!!!) and I graduate in May. I find myself getting down about being a "young teacher," but my 6th graders remind me daily why I am doing what I do! I have been blessed to have a mentor teacher who is supportive of using puzzles, body movements, and other strategies to engage our students! I cannot wait to have my own classroom next Fall!

This is my toughest year yet with 5 preps of everything from honors humanities to self contained sophomore English; I code switch ALL day. Your enthusiasm and passion are a constant reminder of why I got into this field and seriously help me to get me through the tough days! I also wanted to let you know that our students signed up for the scan code t-shirts and have been passing them out for the past few weeks. You are what a high school teacher should be like!! Thank you, you're so inspiring. I'm training to be a primary school teacher (not high school), but what you said really resonated with me, especially about BEING YOURSELF! It's so easy to look at other teachers and think you have to be exactly like them, but then you meet another teacher who's completely different. No two teachers are the same.

I had watched a few of your videos before, but they came in my recommended again so I just started watching it. And I think that it is definitely a set thing that I want to do, but as you said in another video it has its ups and downs just like any profession. I was a public school teacher for thirty years (1975-2005) and my master teacher was incredible. She was probably your size and she was incredible with her 5th-grade studients. That full-time internship with Adele was for a full school year. The one thing I remember that Adele said was to talk softly and never yell or get mad.
So, for the rest of my yeas as a teacher when there were challenges in my classroom, I'd smile and talk softly --- most of the time.
In fact, most of the time when there was a challenge, I'd act like I was the MC of a game show when one of my students acted out and caused a problem, and the student accused me of enjoying myself because of what he'd done. I replied, "Why should I be angry. I wasn't the one that caused a problem." Then I'd smile.
One time when the senior that was the student editor of the high school paper (I was teh adviser for the paper and the journalism teacher) was angry about something one of her reporters had done, we weren't arguing but she was venting and another editor said, "Mr. Lofthosue, the louder she gets, the quieter you get. You are almost whispering now."
Size doesn't mean anything in the classroom. I've known big men who failed at teaching and left the profession before the end of their first year while teachers that weighted less than 100 pounds managed their classes like parents/diplomats and their students respected them --- or feared them.

"Think about your future students" I always do but the reminder freaking hit. I am hopefully starting school soon and I just can't wait to have my own students and pass on my passions with them. Granted I am going into music so it is different, I am still so excited. I already have music picked out for them and ideas of concert set up of all levels.. Yes over the top I know but I just can't wait till that day!

Thank you so much for this video! Today in my education class, we were talking about how teachers are being suppressed and how we have to be extremely cautious about sharing our true selves with our students. And it disheartened me because I want my future students and I to actually get to know each other and share important things about our lives, but it made me think again if I really wanted to be a teacher. The rest of the day was really stressful with so many projects and assignments. It made me wonder why I’m even doing all these classes in college, but then I watched your video and it snapped me back to reality that teaching is what I want to do, and I wouldn’t wanna do anything else!

Hi! So I love your videos!!! I'm a freshman in high school and I hate going to school everyday, but I still try my best! Anyways I wish I had teachers like you at my school! You seem so warm and inviting!! My English teachers is very strict and she's very sassy and negative about everything so that really makes me hate her class a lot! One time I went up to her for help and she was all snotty about it and I was shook!! I wish I had a teacher like you!!! ❤️

I am in my first year of teaching. I teach at an inner-city school where we deal with a lot of behavior problems and gang activity. I am young (22), look young, and I am 5'2. I once had a teacher tell me to "stop trying to relate to the students by using their slang." I had to explain that I'm not trying to relate to them, I DO relate to them. I just found your channel and I want to thank you for making this OK. Relating to them is OK and building relationships based on common interests/struggles is OK, even if we are on different levels of authority.

Thank you for this video. I needed to hear all of this! I recently started to teach preschool and, even though I'm not dealing with teenagers, your advice feels comforting.
Could you do a video about class management and how to show the children what you expect of them please (for example, at the beginning of the year)? :)

for me, growing up, younger teachers ALWAYS managed to engage me more because they know how to talk to young people. in GCSE history, my teacher would sort us into groups and play an edited version of ‘pointless’ with us and it was the most amazing revision tool! it helped me for my exams so much, older teachers are often very strict with their ideals bc it’s what they’ve always known. but younger teachers are changing things and i love that

I needed this video 💕 By the time I do my first year of teaching I'll be 20/21 (I'm 18 right now) and I already volunteer at my old elementary school by reading with kids and helping the theater club after school. I find it difficult to figure out how to act around the kids, I'm still trying to figure that out. A previous comment mentioned a classroom management video, also how you handle misbehaving students. (I think that's a great idea for a video) Thanks Britt! 💕

Oh my word😭 Thank you. In jr high and high school I went back to my old elementary school and volunteered in the kindergarten classrooms, totalling 6 years. I fell in love with teaching. This year I started my first year of my 4 year degree program. The way my university does it, I take a broad range of random course credits and by time I get to my second year, then I take the education courses. During my first month of school, I became so overwhelmed because none of my classes seemed useful to me. I was able to go back to kindergarten for just 2 hours, and that was the best thing I could’ve ever done because I had completely lost sight of why I was doing this. When you mentioned the people that are rooting for you, and you mentioned future students, I started crying! (Definitely not the most convenient time or place to do so as I am in the forum between classes!😆) regardless, I want to say thank you!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!❤️

Girl I made the decision to school at the age of 28 because these children need us! I live in Oklahoma and if you know we‘re desperate for teachers, but we need teachers who care! Keep up the positive “teacher” videos!

I didn’t start teaching until I was 27, so I never had those young teacher moments. (I have a communications degree and did alternate certification.) Now that I’m in year 21, I love learning from young teachers, even though many of my coworkers are young enough to be my children! I still have a passion for teaching and will teach for as long as I can.
There are advantages to looking young, though. I’m nearing 50, but most of my 8th graders think I’m still in my 30s. I’ll take it!
I love your videos, Brittany! You are teaching this old dog new tricks!
