@13:00, it shows Jeff tuning up to play "Engine" and then the crowd sings him happy birthday... This was for a crowd of about 40 people at the end of the final show of the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise reunion tour in Lexington, KY, Oct 2008. This was an absolutely magical show that ended even more magically. Jeff only played two songs. But I am honored to be among the few that was blessed to witness this performance and sing him Happy Birthday, lol... NMH will forever be my fav.
Scott Spillane is one of the sweetest people on earth. After a show in Pgh at a house I asked him to tell me any stories about NMH etc. He said keep a drink in his hand and a smoke in the other. Hours of amazing stories. Such a sweet man.
I've known about the title track from ITAOTS for years but just recently listened to the full album and I'm now obsessed. The deep dives have taken me here. Thanks Ahmed for a well put together collection of the bands history!
I just watched the waang video you clipped in, so to see the beginning of that playing at the beginning of yours I thought the internet or reality were bugging. LOL. Threw me for a loop. Had to hit the back button and make sure i was on the right video.
I would see them and the singer would come see my band in Monroe, Louisiana … Ruston was like 15 minutes away … I even went to school there and I just thought they kinda sucked in a special way… But in hindsight I was just being a 20 year old dick…
@@virginiaaveline4636 tbh it was too intriguing and convenient for me/the narrative of the documentary to just write it off as a fake thing manipulating and/or taking advantage of people's emotions or whatever but thinking about it now, it might be fake, I guess no one can tell for sure.

i had a recording of their full Austin Tx show. but my car was broken into and my recorder was stolen...maybe this was appropriate karma...

It was jeff wasn't it.

Is the letter shown towards the end of the video real? seems to be a bit of a unexpected publicity move for jeff to do in 2001 so im curious.
it is real (maybe not).. you can check out www.neutralmilkhotel.org/faq.htm for more details

@@virginiaaveline4636 the poetry within the letter itself also sounds like something jeff would write too
Does anyone know what year that letter was written?
May 2001
