This is a bitter sweet movie for me because I lost my big sister many many years ago. We use to talk how we would be two old ladies sitting on the porch in rocking chairs. Now I'm old and everyone in my family has passed on and there is no one to sit on the porch with me. Every now and then I talk to my sister and tell her "I'll see you one day again." Thank you for posting this movie. 🙂
I have no doubt you will see her again… and you’ll have eternity to enjoy each other’s company. The blessing that comes from loving someone and enduring this life.
Good to see two great actresses, ageing gracefully, & looking their age and not Botox & filler ruining their looks we all grow old and it’s healthy to embrace it, growing old is a gift that only some can appreciate.
I loved this movie but then I'm 85 years old and my sister is 86 years old. I've lived 23 years beside Nisswa Lake with a picture window and my sons loved to fish. With the rush rush of daily living the slowing up of age is comforting.
What this film thought me is that we have lost those beautiful manners, the importance and dignity we used to give to little events, little ceremonies of life, which ask for energy and care: lunches, evenings out, anniversaries. Him coming in a suit with flowers, Sarah remembering the anniversary of her marriage... Memories...
These iconic actors were already ancient relics when I was just a child. Now, I'm 75 years old watching myself in them as I too begin to fade away. What a good movie .. leaves me to 'think on these things' 🕊
I too feel this way, more and more every day. Not sure how I like it! What I do love about this film is that it reminds me of my aunties! They were lovely women, of that generation.
well I'm 30 now and a new mom but I keep wondering how does it feel when one approaches that age when we have to face the inevitable...when my mom and dad would be long gone and I'll not have any old tree for shelter rather will be an old tree which will be expected to provide shelter...I keep on having panic attacks imagining my end but I just can't imagine how it'll be...
This is such a beautiful film, you forget that you are watching people who were truly screen legends. Bette Davis, Lillian Gish, Vincent Price, and Ann Southern and Harry Carey Jr. They are all just marvelous and this wonderful story is truly worth the watching.
I love Bet Davis and I recorded this film on VHS in 1993 it's one of my favourite films I have it on Dvd now it's a beautiful film with the great Lillian Gish and Vincent Price. Thanks for showing this I hope people who watch it enjoy every minute of the film
A simple & pleasant movie about everyday life, not overly-dramatised, and quite a relief. Sweet, and even a touch of elegance every so often. So glad it was made and there ought to be more like these 💚💛💜🧡💙 The setting on the water is very serene and eloquent on the simplicity of natural life.
A very good friend of mine worked on this movie she told me how terrible Betty Davis was to Lillian she was very cruel to the lovely lady even though I know a lot of things about this movie I do love it still
I am lucky to have sisters and brothers and though we live on 3 different continents, we keep in touch very regularly. I cannot imagine myself without them
This is such a great movie, and I’m pretty sure it’s the last movie for both Betty Davis and Lillian Gish. For that matter it could’ve been for Ann southern and Vincent price too for all I know. My sister and I are pretty close but don’t live near each other. I hope when the time comes and we’re at that age, we could be together like this.
A adorable heart warming classic movie. My how times have changed, most now don't enjoy their time with leisure and laughter. Beautiful ole cottage home by shore. Thank you for sharing...
When you are old, really old, the only decent comfort is that which is found in fond memories. Some of my favorite players. It's refreshing to see them playing their age instead of having to use stage make-up. Bon voyage, 💋, one and all. As long as I am alive, I shall have fond memories too.
I am 71 years old and this is my first time seeing a Lillian Gish movie… What a joy! Looking at her pictures as a young woman, she was absolutely adorable, just as she is adorable in this film! Thank you TH-cam for making this available❤
A great find! A gem! A must see movie with great actors including the legendary beautiful, talented and lively Bette Davis, in contrast a beautiful , sweet and serene Lilian Gish and a handsome and suave Vincent Price. The story is about simple folk and is set among the rocks overlooking the placid sea . There is a beautiful calmness that continues throughout making this film timeless . Most enjoyable 🙏🏻
What s WONDERFUL story♥️♥️♥️♥️!!. I never missed a Betty Davis movie and must watch. I am so lucky to find this movie and couldn't her at old age. she still acted superb 👍♥️. She is my number favourite actress of all time
So,lovely to see these great actors,Lillian Gish, the great Black&White movie actor and BettyDavis&the great Vincent Price act out a gentle, story of memories and old age…I lost my husband 8 months ago..and I understand the loneliness even though I’m some years younger than them ♥️🇨🇦
I absolutely love Bet Davis, this was one of her last films with the great Lillian Gish and Vincent Price. Bet Davis was a wonderful actress they dont make them like Bet Davis anymore she was so truthful maybe my wife was one of the last 😂 I have this film on dvd i taped it on VHS in 1994. Please watch this film its touching its about old age and how we handle it . Some wait for it others just keep going to the END i am the latter 😂 i still have 40 years left ❤.....i hope 😅
I saw this movie back in the day when it came out mostly because I was a fan of old movies and their stars ever since I was a kid. Now I am an adult I can understand it and relate more to the characters.
Thank you for uploading this beautiful film. I enjoyed it immensely. The feel of times past with the quiteness and respect the characters have for one another even when there is tension. Also the unforgettable Vincent Price character who was the "the last person in the world to bow" was wonderful. ❤
👑 Charles ( & Princess Diana ) arrive to the film premier of "The Whales of August" at Cannes Film Festival 1987. Before the movie began, met with some of the film’s stars, Bette Davis and Lillian Gish.
I Love this movie . I bought it about 3 years ago and this 3rd time watching . Ive always love Bette Davis one of my favourite actresses in her time . And Lillian Gish is adorable in this movie . ❤️
Sometimes I wish I could project through the screen and sit down in their house and look at the pictures and all their nic ~nacs. Then wander around the garden smelling the flowers, and then go back in and have a nap. Great movie! Sad they are all gone now. ✌❤
I like that idea. Red and white Roses. AND I thought yellow for friendship. But realized passion and truth so true all you need. For all aspects of life and spirit.
Very relax film for my age, yes a of us still remain past life till today life go on no one can wipe the memory of loved one so sweet , a bit sadly ..but i like it as I kept in my memory as well..thanks😑😔👍🏻🙏⚘🕶
I have a sister who is 11 months younger we are close, I have a younger sister who doesnt talk to me I wish had a relationship before time slips away..❤
Lilian Gish was considered one of America's greatest actresses. She wss a star in the era of silent films. So I think she wass quite a bit older than Bette Davis.
Bette Davis ("Betty Davis" to the 12-year-olds on these boards) was reportedly unpleasant because she was cast as the older sister. She was, if I recall, praising Gish to Johnny Carson, and the audience laughed. Bette scolded the audience and repeated her kind words for Gish, but the audience wasn't buying.
@@robertriley1569 Another thing I heard was someone complimented Gish as looking beautiful in her close-ups. "She should," Bette said, "she invented them." Some may think Bette meant Gish was a pioneer in film technique. Others- okay, ME- think Bette just meant Gish was old.
I remember two sisters bought an island in Cornwall they had many adventures it cost them £25000 pounds they loved the island sadly one died she was from epsom in Surrey so the other sister carried on and wrote a book about the island
To see all these Hollywood great's together is amazing. What a privilege to see the great Lillian Gish in perhaps one of her last film portrayals a gift. Thanks🎉
Remember the movie many many years ago, where Bette Davis said, Fasten Your Seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride. Got to love Davis, or not. Lillian Gish was sweetheart.
Lillian gish has a sister they are both great actress and Betty davis and Vincent price sad when you look at photos and know the family you love have nearly all died a beauiful island the waves calm my heart
OH i agree with you... I think i'm going to make an effort to bring it back into my life... thats Vincent Price the fisherman isn't it? And is that Maggie Smith??

Agreed! And the ladies bringing out their fine clothing for those special occasions. Despite age, they still took time to look feminine
I do enjoy movies featuring older people it gives a completely different vibe than most of the modern movies. So wonderful to see Vincent Price again.

Life become harder as I aged, therefore, like the sisters, I reminisce about life and the bygone days.
Lovely movie. I could live in that house forever.❤

What an allegorical film this is! Sarah and Libby time and again prove that the there is nothing to fear when we are alone👍
Where is this house I'd love to live there the rest of my life! 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗❤
Reminds me of my Aunt's old cottage in Enfield. Long gone.
Wish I had a closeness with my sister like this, seen as we buried our other sister earlier this year😢
This house is in my dreams. The blueberry bushes, the fishing and crabbing. Watching whales.
It`s a great pleasure to watch such films! Thank you ever so much!
