    A great experience for the homeowner and I am so glad that this has inspired Larry to start keeping bees, he said he will keep one box, we all start out thinking like that but we end up having to keep at least three boxes to manage the swarms and make splits, this year I made lots of Nucs and packages for the new members of my bee club and people who were unfortunate in losing some colonies, this was the first time I did this as I have enough colonies now and they keep me super busy!

    OMG Mr. Ed you are blessed with that carisma and positive energy that you send to all of us making things, happily done so easy on those videos… The bee-vac is a plus… Larry did a wonderful job, cutting that tree limb.. at one point I saw 👀 that CS blade deep in he bark, I thought it would be a mess, but like you said “we’re lucky”.. please make a another video setting up Larry with his new hive & the fallow up even after the winter to see if they make it or not… Now Larry can’t back up.. he’s part of the team… 😂 I want to see more videos of him… with you guys… great job.. God blessed us all. Keep the good work.. from NYC 🗽🇩🇴

    I've been keeping bees for about five years now. I got into the hobby after getting hooked on Randy's videos which soon after led me to following you as well as other utubers. It started off with me finding an open air colony three feet off the ground hanging off from where two fallen ironwood trees crossed each other. I did research, spent about a grand getting set up with eqpt, and he homed them. Unfortunately, after filling out two ten frame langstroth hives they turned out to be a.h.b. I took 40 stings one day though my suit and I took off in my golf cart to my barn 500 yards away and took off my suit and left it on the cart to go in the house for a tea break. 15 minutes later I went out and there was about 30-35000 bees trying to murder my suit. I put on a different suit and walked out to the colony and found the queen and gave her the hive tool test (mashed her). I tried to requeen twice but they wouldn't accept a new queen. They would ball the queen cage, chew out the plug, and kill the queen. I asked Julie Norman with winding creek apiary about it later and she thinks the colony might have been in a transition and had two queens at the time and I just picked the exact wrong time to be messing with them. I've got nine strong colonies of really sweet bees now, the queens are all from Julie's place and she gets them from Don the fat bee man (sweet as peaches bees he calls them). Do you ever have to requeen or destroy a hive due to bad genetics making hostile hives there in Louisiana? I occasionally do cut outs for my job and our customers ( three or four a year ). One of the first ones I did is at a property that has old grain silos and warehouses. The owner had me set them up on his property and pays me to bring him the bees from cut outs. He keeps new eqpt there for me and I just swap out the full hives with the new eqpt and he cuts me a check, it's a pretty sweet deal. He gave me the code to the properties gate so I can do it on weekends when I'm off work. Love all that you do! May God continue to bless you and yours!

    Without Wreckin' Ralph doing the usual cutting I'd say the homeowner, Larry did a fantastic job cutting the tree limb open for you. Looks like he had great fun being your helper and camera man. He did a great job on both. It's fun see a beehive very much in the wild. It doesn't get any wilder than a hollow tree! Winnie the Pooh would definitely agree!

It must be very confusing to them, with their little bee minds, ''Hey! Why is Hive on the ground ?!?" Tiny little souls, the bees get busy, take it all in stride, and get right back to work ! For the Hive ! For the Hive ! God Save the Queen ! 🙂

      There will very often have bees flying around a tree that once had bees in it for a week or so as the smell of honey and comb are still fresh, but as the smell weakens, less and less bees show up until finally, no bees at all. Larry seems a cool fella too and I'm glad he asked some 'beginner' questions because there are a lot of us who don't really have that much knowledge about bees despite watching your videos for .. well a long time. Great video! Since the honey was so wet- would it not had been easier to scoop it out? Or would you be afraid of scooping up the queen at the same time? God bless you!

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Even though the comb was wet, it is still better to get it out as much intact as possible. Scooping it out would only make the situation messier as there would be honey everywhere. By leaving it in the comb, there is less spillage. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. God's peace Annette.

    Is the comb damaged at all from the fall? I’m imagining the comb bursting when it hits the ground. Or is the damage just from the chain saw? I’m assuming all the honey will be fed back to the bees? Thanks for showing us this recovery.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  ปีที่แล้ว

      When the tree hits the ground, the impact jars the comb lose from the inside of the tree and opens cells releasing honey and crushing bees, a very messy situation which is why action is required ASAP. Yes, the honey was crushed and strained and is now being fed back to the bees. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Cheryl.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  ปีที่แล้ว

      As you well know, you've got to react quickly when a tree with bees in it hits the ground. Unfortunately, as is a lot of the times, the bees are not noticed right away and by the time they are, maggots and robber bees have taken over and the bees have left. God's peace Joey.

    Can you save the wax after squeezing out the honey?

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is how I do it. I squeeze the honey from the comb and place the drained comb outside to let the bees eat any honey that is still there. After they finish with it it goes into my melter to be rendered down. I got about 2 pounds of wax from this hive. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them.
