    Even though there's rumours of Universal looking at other sites (They already have) but their too far down in the road on this project. The head man for the theme park division at Universal said already that the KH site is the best site they seen in Europe for their 1st Universal theme park, cant see them easily walking away from that. I think the govt and Universal will eventually come to the middle and make some sort of deal in the coming months. This is a gigantic project so this will take time for the green light.

      Yeah I think it's posturing trying to get done a bit quicker. I'm pretty sure it's happening especially with them buying the houses

      @@dandktravels Although them buying the houses and doing the surveys and even some work on land clearances might be happening soon, all add value onto the land, for relatively little investment.

      We will have to be patient. They need time for this project to be a success. I've read somewhere that the earliest estimated time for any meaningful decisions to be made is by the end of this year. They're still in the discussion. Local government wants more benefits like new train stations, cheap housing schemes, and some other economic incentives from Universal, while Universal is also looking for more financial benefits for things like taxes. It will go through as both sides are very positive, but they just need to iron out the details and, in the process, take advantage to seek as many benefits as possible.

    The next key event for this might be the 30 October 2024 budget, Reeves will want least one good news story in there. Now that might just be giving extra funding to upgrade the new Meadow Road/ Wixam train station into a 4 platform station instead of the current two plan. I doubt that would cost more than 40 or 50 million.

    I imagine a big factor in their decision, was in data of how many people from different european nations were already visiting universals pre existing parks elsewhere, i Imagine that their statistics tell them they get a lot more british foreign visitors than others.

    • @dandktravels
      @dandktravels  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You’re spot on! Universal probably sees a ton of Brits heading to their other parks, which must be a big factor in their decision. They know the demand is here, so it makes sense they’re seriously considering setting up shop in the UK.

    Is the UK a real option now? The domestic market is not sufficient to sustain a park of this size. Universal require visitation from the broader European market to make the park viable and with so many barriers to inbound tourism having arisen due to Brexit (The new entry standards being imposed in line with the European ETIAS system for example). Inbound tourism has fallen since Brexit from a peak in 2017 of 41 million to 38 million in 2023 - I suspect this will be an issue for Universal along with weather and wider European transport links, let's hope the UK government is responsive.

      Nope they sold all their shares in 2004, tussuads pulled out first (the money they got back was a return on investment they bought Thorpe Park with, and reinvested the rest at alton), then busch sold their stake and lastly universal pulled out, but residual deals for characters remained, universal I think bought buschs stake, it's now entirely run by the Spanish original investors.

    Companies just trying to play hardball with the government to see if they can pad their margins. Government needs to be willing to invest in the infrastructure but to have some penalty clauses if the company walks away from the deal its not the taxpayer thats only losing out. Anywhere if it falls through after they expand the transport infrastructure...Ideal site for one of the new towns.

    • @dandktravels
      @dandktravels  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I’m with you on that! It’s all about making sure the government invests smartly, but also has some protections in place so taxpayers aren’t left hanging if things don’t work out. And yeah, if the transport upgrades happen but Universal doesn’t, using the site for a new town could be a solid backup plan. Appreciate the idea!
