My family once had two of these, I named one of them Pi-chan and the other was named baba. Unfortunately they died because a rat attacked them. Bless them. Seeing it here makes me miss them.
I used to have pet chickens. We would raise the males for food and keep the hens for eggs. The 2 best quality roosters were kept as pets and were not allowed to be eaten. Aside from being pets, their role was to create more generations of chickens. If you have a plan in your head early on about what you are doing, you can choose which animals you will form an emotional bond with VS which ones you will raise well but stay emotionally distanced from (don't give them names, pet them, etc). It is totally possible to raise animals well by hand and layer kill them for food without it being an emotionally traumatic process. Your biggest duty towards your animals is to raise them well. If you know your animals had a good life, then what more can one ask for? Chickens raised personally have 100x better quality of life than chickens raised in industrialised broiler or battery chicken farms. Raising your own animals for food is healthier tor both people and the animals concerned (the animals get a better quality of life and you get better quality food). One of the biggest problems with society is that after living with and raising livestock for thousands of years, we have now lost our connection to our food and to the land (and this has come at the cost of the environment and people's wellbeing). Raise chickens if you can, it is good for you. They make great pets and even if you can't bring yourself to eat them, you will get a steady supply of free eggs for many years.
My family have fish in aquarium raise for 2 years. once no electricity for more than 1days so the fish dead and my mom fried it just like that, i was shocked.
