#TheHungerGames
Experience the story of THE HUNGER GAMES - 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem.
THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.
I’m just happy we’re getting dystopia again. It’s been a hot minute
When was the last dystopia movie??
@@gdesiree29probably Ready Player One? And before that, Maze Runner?
@@MLBuckProductions yes maze runner came out 2018 . The last movie
RIGHTTTTT
Yeah well, reality has proven itself to be the stupidest dystopia ever. I doubt any Hollywood studio would approve such a script…
The fact that Rachel sang many of the songs live while filming and didn’t just lip sync (which is what’s typically done so the performer can keep their energy) is awesome. It really makes a difference in the scenes.
she sang all of them live!
As a hunger games fan I am personally excited for this movie, I thought the songs would be less upbeat, but it doesn’t really matter, as long as Lucy has a great voice!
Oh yes, i have heard the covers of the songs and are less upbeat but this change sounds good too. The vocals are fire :)
i guess they have to be, because lucy gray’s a performer who entertains in celebrations.
@@linz.aesthetics oh yeah true, hanging tree sounds nice and mournful though.
same
There is quite a few songs Lucy sings some are upbeat others are more mysterious if that makes sense like hanging tree
Saw the movie tonight. I knew she could sing from watching a viral video from years ago but her voice absolutely blew me away while watching the movie. The way she’s able to convey her emotions while singing and acting at the same time, she was the highlight of the movie for me. Definitely a lot to come in the future for her.
I’m happy for her because the hate she’s received just because some comments she made is unbelievable
she is terrible at acting though but she can sing
@@unitor699industries where is she a terrible actor? everything ive seen her in she's been fantastic
Rachel is perfect for this role, can't wait to see her interpretation. Readers interpret her character's motivation differently, but I feel that the film adaptation will allow to see it more definite
why? what motivation? :O i am about to finish the book....am i missing something or the real motivation is at the end? omg
@@dancingonmy0wn it's about her attitude towards Coriolanus. No spoilers, but the way how quickly in the culmination Lucy Gray understood what he was thinking and navigated the situation says a lot
Rachel Zegler looks more like a Katniss than Jennifer Lawrence did.
@@AM-lx4fm true, there's a popular headcanon that katniss is native from her dad's side (and so is gale's family) but it's never specified in the books (i know rachel's not native btw). i do wish katniss had been played by a native actress but jlaw WAS perfect in every other way (that and she was a bit too old). and rachel is better as lucy gray than katniss
Very refreshing to see a comments section that isn’t swarmed with trolls obsessively spewing venom at Rachel Zegler. People always have to look for reasons to be assholes. Rachel’s going to be wonderful in this movie.
I've gotten so attached to Maiah Wynne's versions of these songs that I was so caught off guard when they weren't the same! Needless to say though, I am so excited to dive into how the movie does them because I got chills just listening to these snippets!
Same!! But I do really like Rachel’s versions. Rachel’s and Maiah’s “Pure as the Driven Snow” sound relatively similar, so I’m happy.
There will always be a place in my heart for MW's version. I think her interpretation is a more soft and gentle Lucy Gray...here they were probably aiming for her more bold and brave character as was in the book.
Yes, same!
Agreed! Rachel has a fantastic voice, especially her rendition of the Hanging Tree. So haunting and beautiful. I'm so excited to see the full versions of all the songs.
I also love Maiah Wynne's version! I'm hoping I'll love the official versions as much!
I wish they had also considered the music element as seriously in the original saga.
The books of the original trilogy clearly state the fact that Katniss had a beautiful voice and knew how to sing intuitively (the fact that the mockingjays stopped to listen to her (or was it her dad? cannot remember haha), how by the end of the story singing was some sort of therapy for her, of course the The Hanging Tree used in the propos, the fact that one of the first memories Peta has of Katniss is her singing at school, etc.). When I read the books, it was clear to me that singing was an important element and so I wish they had given it a bigger role.
I guess they put it aside because for Katniss singing is no use unless it helps her get food to survive and the books are just too full of tragedy. But it would’ve connected so nicely to the prequel ❤
yeah but katniss didnt like to sing and her story just wasn't about music. it would've been amazing if it had her singing a lullaby to her baby in the epilogue to show development though
@@olivia-sv3wq it’s so interesting you mention that because the other day, after I wrote this, I also remembered another not minor aspect, which is the origin of Katniss’ name, which is this plant that is both functional (cause of the root potatoes) and ornamental (cause it’s nice looking with flowers - also of course the arrow shaped leaves and Katniss being a skilled archer and everything, which adds to the meaning of Katniss’ name). Anyway, I think her singing ability is yet another play on the name as singing may be generally associated with amusement and ornamental purposes but in THG it found a really powerful usage and role in the rebellion through Rue’s 3-note signal and The Hanging Tree, so again singing’s relevance is shown there. Suzanne really nailed it with this one 💯
@@gigi-1 true, i cant wait for the katniss plant to be mentioned in the movie !
She looks and sounds GREAT! The songs are so good and also so different from the covers of fans and that gets them an unique sound & vocals! Love the mistery vibes of the song

This was a good idea. After all the negative press that Rachel has been getting, it is good for Lionsgate to release something that shows her in a favorable light. I myself was wondering whether I would go and watch the movie, but my family will be going because this production is not just one person's effort. As such, one person's comments, no matter how poorly they are received, should affect our decision to support the entire cast and the studio in protecting and projecting this saga.

Reading The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I found the song lyrics hard to follow. It reminded me a bit of Lord of the rings, where I skipped through pages of poetry and lyrics that I couldn't get into. But.., this film actually putting tunes to the songs, changes everything. From what we can see here it's an amazing adaptation. The musicians in here have totally brought these songs to life.
I am quite sure this will be the best Hunger Games film so far, as well as far exceeding what you could expect from the original novel.
Completely agree about the songs feeling almost out-of-place and hard to get through in the book, but having huge effect in the movie. Stunning adaptation! I almost think the book should be sold with a soundtrack from now on😅
I am personally SO glad they've casted Rachel - I've been listening to her covers on youtube for ages and since I started reading the book she's the only person I can picture as Lucy Gray - I'm so excited
I was really impressed with the music in this movie, not only as a lover of bluegrass and traditional country music, but from a thematic standpoint.
At least three of the songs she sings in the movie borrow their chord progressions and melodies either directly from or with obvious inspiration from a few songs that are also thematically relevant to what she’s dealing with at the time.
The song she sings on TV near the beginning is clearly inspired by “Streets of Laredo” (or the even older version, “The Unfortunate Rake”), which is a song about a man who is dying and is trying to impart his story before he dies, which is also the point she is driving home in that scene.
Another is “The Hanging Tree” (whose title is shared with at least one song, by Marty Robbins, who also sang “Streets of Laredo”), but the melody is different. The chord progression and melody of the movie’s version are very similar to Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit” (not a country singer or song, which is also interesting), which is about lynchings.
The song she sings when Snow comes to the little music hall for the first time also sounds like “Wayfaring Stranger,” another song not only about being a stranger in a strange land (Snow), but also dying and “going home,” metaphorically.
Yeah.. I got a strong Negro spiritual vibe from it.
I didn't know the singer until I saw the film, nor the actress. I was captivated by the melody and the voice in the scenes.
Leaving the theater, I searched on yt and everything made sense. The singer is the actress. That's why there is so much synchronicity between the music and the gestures on her face in front of the camera.
I really enjoyed the movie. Although I must admit that music has made it a bit easier for me.

HER VOICE ok I'm sold on her now

@@gdesiree29 they're very right
Her voice and all the songs are amazing
The song "Deep in the Meadow" that Katniss sings to both Prim and to Rue in the first Hunger Games book turns out to be one of Lucy's many other songs, right? I really hope so, because that song as well as "The Hanging Tree" becomes so symbolic in the HG franchise.
yeah she sings it to maude ivory when they're all by the lake
Yes but i think they didn't record that song for this movie and neither the Valley song :/ but you can find some fan's cover on yt
All the song snippets in the trailers released have a distinct vibe and now that it's pointed out, the celtic/mountain influences are very strong. Really looking forward to seeing this movie and Rachel's performance.

Finally watched the movie last night and I was not expecting the music to be so fully-formed! From the trailer I was expecting maybe a cursory song break, but the care and attention they gave the music throughout was exceptional. I can’t believe I haven’t heard anyone talking about these songs. Truly underrated melodies, lyrics, and vocal performance from Rachel Zegler. If anyone has any artist suggestions for music similar to the Covey songs, please drop them for me to check out!! 🙏

Rachel’s voice 😍🛐
I had listen to Maiah Wynne’s versions many times but I never know that Rachel’s version of Nothing you can take was very lively.
I like this way better, i imagine Lucy Gray dancing, jumping around and mocking
ive seen snippets of the other girls interpretations and tbh they all seem too depressing.. like i get why she sees them that way but in the books they were not all like that. i feel like she was leaning too much into the drama theme
La voz de Rachel es perfecta

This is going to be so perfect.
Cant wait to watch the movie.🎉
There’s something I thought of when During the Mockingjay movie whenever the rebels sang ‘The Hanging Tree’ I wondered if Snow ever thought of Lucy Gray ( I hope there’s a Cameo at the end to show that)
Even if we don't see it, you know he definitely did because that song was quickly made illegal to sing in Panem ever again after Snow left 12 because that song reminded him too much of Lucy. Snow was so smug at the end of the prequel, talking about how Lucy Gray and her mockingjays could never harm him again all the way in District 12 but he ate those words entirely all those years later once Katniss stood up to him
IM SO EXCITED OH MY GODDDDDD SHE SOUNDS AMAZING
These special featurettes are killing me! they are so good but I dont want to watch them! I see more exclusive clips and I want to wait for November!
