the older episode's writer was thinking of ways to connect the new series od DW with the old , therefore he brought back Sara Jane and the Master, the new writer/director is more keen on making new stories and he is not keen on going back in the old archives to think of new ideas . I love both styles and i think that you cannot compare the old with the new and vice versa .

David Tennant and Rose was my favorite combination but I also loved Matt Smith and Clara. You guys need to stop being so stinking negative. I think season 5-7 was actually really good and well done. I loved 2-4 also just the same. I mean everyone has their favorite episodes but it doesn't mean other episodes aren't good. I bet you anything if you watch one of Matt's episodes, and you think: "this will be good". I guarantee you, you will think it is a good episode. If not, so be it.

I think I'm the only one that thinks this, not in contradiction to what you said but, it actually seems to me that the new ones are actually much more serious and more, not focused... sharp. Like even when you look at the posters their aren't all these fun bright colors, it's more crisp. I guess I like that better.
Is it just me, or does this remind you of the days when Doctor Who was better? Not hating on the new series or Matt Smith (he's also a great Doctor), but there's something missing from the recent few series that the old series had that made it truly great. While the newer episodes have been funny and actiony, the older episodes seemed much more epic. Anyone else noticed this or is it just me?
I think it mostly has to do with the new show runner who took over after S4. Moffat's episodes are very plot driven and focus more on the mysteries surrounding the Doctor. RTD's, on the other hand, were more character-driven with a lot of focus placed on the companions personal development and their various relationships with other characters. IMO, the show had more heart and depth under RTD's control because he's better at subtlety and characterization, though I'm sure many would disagree.
