I totally didn't catch on that Balder was her father at first. Even after he said "you may address me as father" I was raised Christian so I just thought "oh yeah father cause he's like a priest."
I was thinking the Same thing, since in Church the Word Father means the Priest. But I think, what he meant that he is Bayonetta/Cereza's Biological Father.

What truly makes this boss battle epic is truly both the music, and the environment. 'You May Call Me Father' really is a theme for a hard standing priest of strength, and the way you were fighting him on slabs of a building while you two go to the ground makes for an epic surrounding in a boss fight.
It's so good it makes you sad for a villain that you aren't even supposed to feel sad for yet.
Love how he casually fixes his hair after tearing apart bloodthirsty kaiju-sized demon.
Also, the music is perfectly synchronized with his moves at this specific moment, which makes the scene even cooler. He's one of the most memorable video games villains ever created.
I'm pretty much sure that Luka has bones of steel. He falls into hard concrete and he can walk just fine.

Since this Balder wasn’t really trying to kill her, just test her to unlock the left eye, imagine how strong and badass he would be if he fought like his younger self here.
That's true. And we know he can do it, because he does use Light Speed once.
He is older so he doesn't have the agility to do it.
@Art Cannot Be Killed Light Speed is a magical ability, not a natural one so he still doesn't.
@Art Cannot Be Killed Witch Time is magical and slows down time. It makes the witches a bit faster, but that's it and it's clearly shown to be magical in ability. Light Speed is the Lumen Sage equivalent to it and they demonstrated the ability to use magic as well. To add, Balder clearly looks middle aged or the equivalent to a human in their 60s so he clearly doesn't have that agility and it'd show in his moves if he did. Bayonetta 2 had a younger Balder who had the agility and it showed.
@Art Cannot Be Killed The thing is they are all 100% human at the core and I won't comment on what he hoped to get from the outcome from the battle but it didn't look all that superhuman speed to me. After all, he mainly stayed in flight mode and let his powers fight for him unlike the younger Bayonetta who went up close and personal so I have a right to truthfully say he's not that agile. Elderly people can be active, but they're not as young as they once were. Even if he wanted to lose, he would have put more effort in regardless.

Andrew miller it's not really confusing if you look at it in a linear way.
1500s - Rosa was killed by Loptr, balder gets mad. Loptr gets split in half and Loki sleeps for 500 years. Balder travels to the future to when Loki wakes up so he could kill him.
Present - Balder and Bayonetta 'kill' Loptr, but he possesses Balder after opening a rift back in time to the 1500s. Balder goes back in time, and this is when Bayonetta gets stuck in the lake, and he manipulates Jeanne and they wait till Bayonetta wake up.

This entire scene has such deeper context after Bayo 2 was released, geez. BTW, I love how bright, ridiculous yet still kinda cool Balder/Loptr's outfit here is.
This is by far one of the best boss battles that I’ve ever played. Everything about it from the music, its grandiose scale and even balder’s calm disposition, make it unforgettable.
I find it absolutely insane that after three games we know almost nothing about the lumen sages and the only one we ever get to see is bayos dad not hating on him or anything but he's reason why I want to see more of the lumen sages

I would say that was a good one but he was so damn wrong for doing that...
Balder alter the future by bringing the past cereza into the present.. Later after being deceive bayonetta into thinking that she has defeat him, his original purpose was to awaken the left eye inside bayo influencing her mind and awaken the paradox memory of past cereza into her.... Wow loptr evil truly corrupted this good hearted father and he still want to save bayonetta from loptr Threat by trapping down loptr soul once again with him and the both of them perish forever

@@joanwhitley5230 correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't that mean it's a loop? Bayonetta 2 happened after Bayonetta 1 but because of the events in bayonetta 2 that the 1 existed to begin with? It all started with loptr corrupting balder in bayo1 then the ending in bayo2 where loptr was defeated and baldr taking loptr corrupting him and jumping to his original time which was bayo1. Kinda hard to explain but the jist of it is like it was a loop to begin with and it's like it was fated to happen again and again which is kinda sad if i'm right

You know I never thought about this...but the ending of Bayonetta 2 would make Baldur's plan in Bayo 1 impossible. After all I assume that with his death from the original,the right eye is Forever lost to world. Which is why Loptr had to reach into the past to bring him to the present. So he can take the right eye from that period in time. But after being defeated and Loki erasing the eyes of the world as they are in that moment,making Aesir essentially lose Baldur's right eye of the World, how can he hope to later awaken Bayonetta's left eye when he himself no longer has the right eye by the context of Bayo 2? I mean I'll take the plot hole if it means we get cool shit that happens in Bayo 2 but it's a thought that just came to my head.
This scene is the reason why I think Bayo 1 story is so much better than 2.. So many twist, emotions. It's brilliant.
I think Bayonetta 1 being for adults only can have a more brutal story with all that whereas Bayonetta 2 had to be more child-friendly and became a bit distracting with all the flashy colours and Umbran Climaxes.
I think Bayonetta 2 had more twists and emotions. Like that moment where we find out that Balder was being influenced by Loptr all throughout Bayonetta 1, and that scene in the beginning of Bayonetta 2 where Balder thanks Bayonetta for keeping her promise, dies, and takes Loptr with him.

Also you can't tell me that Bayonetta 1 is not flashy and out there since it's the whole point of the series. I also like how for you more colors = child friendly, that's a pretty reductive thing to say especially when the tone of the same game is pretty much the same, the only thing that changed is better lighting and textures.

i believe the reason is because Kamiya is no longer the director, he wrote the story, but Bayonetta 2 lacks his attention to detail, he adds a lot to the enemies and scenes Hashimoto simply doesn't, probably because people complained it was so vague lol. So he simplified everything.

Meh, I prefer Bayo 2's story.
Bayonetta 1's story is really really good, with the play on who's who in the flash-backs, making you believe the adult witch in the flash-backs was Bayonetta and that Cereza is actually her child, when it actually was Rosa and Bayo as a child, but it has problems in its execution. Not enough hints as to were the story goes, no clear goal at the beginning, and it being a flashy action game makes it so that many people just dropped the story entirely. Like when the game start you know you're looking for a stone, but then you kind of don't talk about it for 8 chapters, and in these 8 chapters you got so much crazy shit happening you could easily forget about the eyes, it just turns into "bayo walks around town, killing the angels she sees".
Basically, I think on a 2nd or 3rd play through and/or while reading the lore books, the story is much more enjoyable because you know where this is going so you can pick up on many hints, but during the first time you play the game ? Hell you have no idea what's happening or where you're going. That is not an issue in bayo 2 imo.
I think Bayo 2's story is better paced, and a clearer initial goal (to save Jeanne) but still has time for twists and turns (Aesir, Balder possessed, Rosa's death etc...). And sorry but the three chapters of the witch hunts in bayonetta 2 were the best story and world building moments in the entire franchise. The way it absolutely made you FEEL the witch hunts, these things that you hear about from the first game but you haven't really seen a lot of them and you still had questions about them (I'm sure 90% of people wondered "how did the witches disappear if they were that strong", and these Witch Hunts chapters really show you why, because the 4 Cardinal Virtues were here, because tons of giant angels, the entire town on fire, the fckn flying angels lasering an entire area, the clock tower falling. Nah that shit was powerful.)
I actually like this fight a lot. I like bosses with not much downtime

Every boss (except, fittingly, Jubileus itself) says that as they die. It's kind of a combination of "go to hell but I'm an angelic being and can't say that" and "Jubileus is going to tear you apart when it arrives."

Awesome boss battle
One thing that really irks me is how Luka is played off as much more of a joke in the second game than in this one. He actually had some sort of prevalence to the story, albeit minor. It connected him to the big bad in a similar way to Cereza.

Balder was clearly holding back purposely because he needed Bayonetta to win in order to awaken the Left Eye. He then had to be deceitful and outsmart her by faking his death.

Notice how at 9:28 Bayonetta lets her hair down to activate serious mode but loses it after being thrown at the wall. She was about to go all out on Balder but she somehow got weakened.

thing is Balder is special since hes a holder of the eye, hes stronger then most sages due to it, both witches and sages are pretty much weak just balder and bayo are special cases in being the strongest due to the eyes making them extreamly strong
